It does have working springs on the front end which makes it look like it is launching from the starting line but that is my only complaint. I am not an authority on Mustangs like a certain board member who fled to Miami so I lined up these '69 and '70 302s for comparison. Left to right: M2 Castline - Maisto - Ertl - Franklin Mint Nice Gary. I think my obsession has rubbed off on you as you seem to be acquiring more Mustangs.?
Ace-Garageguy Posted February 7, 2022 Posted February 7, 2022 (edited) A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, I set out to make a credible model of the 1951 GM LeSabre show car. I started with the abysmally awful Premier kit, but it was SO bad, to the point that every single thing would need correction, I decided to shelve the project...intending to carve one out of a solid block some time in the future. A little while ago I found a pretty good 1/24 diecast made by Franklin Mint. It has multiple accuracy issues, but it looks decent and should the desire to do a really good one ever arise again, it's a great jumping-off point. Edited February 7, 2022 by Ace-Garageguy TYPO
Gramps46 Posted February 7, 2022 Author Posted February 7, 2022 The Franklin Mint Le Sabre looks pretty good from this angle. Certainly a good find.
keyser Posted February 8, 2022 Posted February 8, 2022 It’s pretty nice. I believe it’s a later modified version modeled, Earl fiddled with them to try out ideas. Center grille rotates, has dual HL. Real car had rain sense convertible top. In 51 iirc. Still need that.

vamach1 Posted February 11, 2022 Posted February 11, 2022 (edited) Good news is I have even searching for this 1/18 model for many years. It has gotten more expensive and the listings all seem to e in Europe which increases the shipping costs. I got an offer from an Ebay seller and I accepted it. It arrived via priority mail and the bad news it was put in a long box lightly wrapped in some brown paper so it spent a lot of time sliding back and forth in the box during transit. It’s never a good sign to hear rattling parts for a diecast when you pick up a box. No reply yet from the seller but I managed to superglue the umper and drag chute back on and reinstall the steering wheel and column and touch up a lot of paint chips. As part of the awesome shipping the seller used scotch tape to “hold” the hood shut. Not only is that not going to work on a heavy diecast but the tape can also “lift” up any decals thus adding more unnecessary damage to any otherwise nice model. Edited February 11, 2022 by vamach1 1
Gramps46 Posted February 11, 2022 Author Posted February 11, 2022 Nice Mustang there Rex. Who made the model?

That's a nice car and I hope the seller comes through with some compensation. Early on in my diecast collecting I won a Danbury Mint Stutz Blackhawk. It was in perfect condition and came with a display case. The seller placed it in the case with some shipping peanuts then wrapped the cased with newspaper and placed it loosely in a box. All the plastic chrome parts were destroyed and so was the case. The seller refunded the pay and I kept the car. I found all the broken pieces and glued them back together. Nice fifty footer now.
Gramps46 Posted February 12, 2022 Author Posted February 12, 2022 (edited) I went back to Walmart yesterday after thinking about the Motor Max Corvettes. I am a sucker for white Corvettes so picked up the 1959 for $9.97. Upon inspection at home I see the headlamps are too small and need replacement as do the taillights. I am not a big fan of the mags but I found since it is 1/24 scale a set of 1/25 AMT hubcaps will slide right into the existing rims. Much better IMHO. ? Certainly not Mint quality but the price and color are saving graces for me. Edited February 12, 2022 by Gramps46 1
Snake45 Posted February 12, 2022 Posted February 12, 2022 I looked hard at that '59 but decided against it--didn't like the shape of the side coves, and also I did the '59/'60 in white/red in plastic a couple years ago. My Walmart still has a good stock of these Vettes, so either they're selling and restocking, or they're not selling at all. Still haven't Snake-Fued the one I bought. Think I'm gonna need to completely repaint the cheesy looking red interior.

Ace-Garageguy Posted February 23, 2022 Posted February 23, 2022 Another one for considerably under market (possibly because it was incorrectly listed as "Franklin" rather than "Danbury" Mint): '48 Buick Roadmaster. I'm beyond impressed with this one. It's a real jewel.
Gramps46 Posted February 23, 2022 Author Posted February 23, 2022 Oh yes, that Buick Roadmaster really looks nice and seems to still have the hood ornament and radio antenna.
keyser Posted February 24, 2022 Posted February 24, 2022 Pretty uncommon. It and 56 Buick HT amongst last issues from them. Couple others I can’t recall. Neat model.
Geno Posted February 24, 2022 Posted February 24, 2022 Got it, love it. It is amazingly detailed. Great score Bill.
1959scudetto Posted February 25, 2022 Posted February 25, 2022 (edited) Today in the mail: the 1/24 White Box Ford Escort Mk II 1800RS (made by Ixo, it is the rally version - competition seats, rollcage, auxiliary lights etc. in a civilian livery) - will turn this into Ari Vatanen'S 1980 Acropolis rally winner with Studio 27 decals and a few add-ons: When completed, it will look like this: Edited February 25, 2022 by 1959scudetto
Gramps46 Posted February 25, 2022 Author Posted February 25, 2022 That is a good looking Escort. Is there any problem getting Rothmans decals these days?
