Picked up this nice diecast Daimler on Ebay yesterday, to be delivered early next week...... it is a 1:43 scale 1962 Daimler 2 1/2 litre V8 in Indigo Blue by Vitesse, which was priced at £23.00 GBP but my offer of £18.00 GBP was accepted by the seller.

That's like an "essential" Mint car.   Every collection should (and does?) have one.  I have the FM and DM versions.   Both were pretty inexpensive.  And yes this one seems VERY susceptible to paint rash.  I've seen some really bad ones out there.

At this point, there are very few "perfect" paint cars.  Box kept cars are no better than displayed cars.  Apparently waxing seems to be the best preventative for the rash, from what I've read.  But anyone selling a car as "perfect paint" might be telling a story.

I have the Danbury Mint version of the  '48 Chrysler Town & Country convertible and mine looks good for now. I just checked!  It's a wonderful car, and probably at scale weight too.  It's one heavy model!

I understand the problem with the "rash" is in the metal, a zymac(?) composition that is deteriorating  under the paint.

I've had the green 1948 Town and Country Franklin Mint version for a number of years. Bought on eBay for cheap years ago. One of the first Mint cars I ever purchased. No box, filthy, and it was and still is missing a trunk center light thingy. I also have the Danbury Mint black 1942 Town and Country station Wagon. So today, I got a new one and it looks perfect in the pictures. Can't wait to see it in a few weeks.

I have been hanging around the diecast section way to much. This is the only 1/25 diecast I have, really other than a couple hot wheels type, my only diecast.  I did not get it today, but bought it 10 years ago to strip it and build a replica of a 1:1 I worked on, but am now leaning towards getting a resin body if I ever get a round tuit at all.

This Danbury Mint 1956 Thunderbird came yesterday and it is a real beauty in my opinion.  The amazing things are the wing windows actually swivel and it only cost $18.

I did not go looking for this model, it kind of found me, just like the other 2 T Birds in my collection.

I understand the problem with the "rash" is in the metal, a zymac(?) composition that is deteriorating  under the paint.

I understand it as two separate conditions.   The metal failing ("rot")is characterized by a more pimply surface and actual failure of the metal - kinda looks like rust bubbles on a real car.    The metal will eventually crumble.   And then I see simple paint rash, that looks like the paint process had some impurities or didn't get cleaned perfectly before it was painted.  I had a CMW mercury fall completely apart.   But most of hte cars I have now just look like areas of tiny little paint imperfections.  They may all crumble eventually.   And both of these conditions can happen when cars are left in box as well as out.  So a non displayed car may show some paint rash even though it's been in the box.   Best practice, as I understand it, is to wax the paint periodically, like a real car, to keep the paint as supple as possible.   I think Goerge Bojaciuk wrote the article I read.

I have seen the DM cars listed with some really bad hoods, where it looks like the metal is almost to point of failure.

Hey Gary,

that is a great looking '56 TBird! A short while back I bought an ICONS version that looks good too, but I did pay more than 18.00?!!

Nice score!

I saw the ICONS only after I ordered the Danbury Mint and am still tempted by it.

I haven't bought a first gen t bird in 1/24.  I have a 1/18 Ertl precision 100 or whatever they called it.  Like a mint car in 1/18.  Wife had claimed it as here's and a permanent piece in the collection.  But you guys have some nice pieces in the mint and icons.  I do have a 53 Vette from icons and it is much nicer than the Franklin mint car.

And I just ordered from DMW an orange 2017 Vette, red '79 Vette, and Jada '67 Impala. Had never heard of or seen the last one before, but it looks good in pictures. Yeah, it's Jada, so I won't be surprised if it's oversized, but it fits in the standard box and it's an Impala, so how over-big could it be? It can keep my Greenlight Supernatural Impala company on the shelf.

These came last week but just now had the chance to sneak 'em into the house and take a look at them.

The 2019 Vette looks nice--looks a bit big in the box but the wheelbase is shorter than a 2016 Camaro so maybe it's right. The '79 Vette also looks good.

The '67 Impala looks better than I expected. It's about the same overall size as a couple 1/25 '65 Impalas I happen to have on the workbench, and the wheelbase is actually a little shorter. Doesn't look like it will take much more Snake-Fu than a black wash in the grille, and maybe on the wheels. The Marina Blue paint is nice. The tires are skinny but of a nice diameter. Overall I'm pretty pleased with it and don't regret gambling on its purchase. Pics up soon, I hope.

So, while I've been in Canada this year, I've been busy making purchases on eBay. I've seen a few of them and cleaned and made repairs on the ones I had purchased though October. I didn't take time to get a picture of my repairs and cleaning. The rest are from November until now.

The NASCAR racecars were new, so no cleaning or repairs necessary.

These are my latest purchases. I will see them in a couple of weeks.

Well my 'I'm not buying anymore' resolution didnt last long lol.

I blame a Mr Snake for tempting me towards a Jada Charger Daytona after seeing his build. Ideally I wanted the darker orange version version (on US ebay but our Post Office import charges are run by Dick Turpin !) then the same version Snake has came up on UK ebay so I plunked down my money. I plan changing the wheels to Jada ARE style 5 spokes originally found on the Fast & Hilarious primered Chevelle and swopping seats to modern Recaro style for now.

Also picked up an Atlas Yamaha V-Max motorbike in 1;25 scale

And lastly, another one thats been on my wish list for a very long time. Toad will soon be joining Falfa, Milner and Mr Wolfman Jack outside Peppershakers Diner. Theres a seat waiting for Debbie.

Really super collection of acquisitions.   Is the Porsche 356 a Franklin Mint.  Would really like to see more pictures when you get a chance.

Yes, the Porsche is a Franklin Mint. I already have one, but it was missing the boot. So ever since I've been scouting for another boot, parts car, or if the price was right a complete car. Now I have a complete car. One will go back to eBay. Whichever one is rougher. I plan to document cleaning and repair of all my recent acquisitions. I was working on the Chrysler 300 tonight.

Those bass boats are just too cool.... I only have one... I don't even remember what Nascar racer it depicts, but I know enough to know I want another one...

Jada so of course it's a little oversized, but it has a blinky light to make up for it.

It is quite odd that they would make all their cars closer to 1/23 scale than anything else, but their trucks seem closer to scale...So weird....

Caved in and bought a welly vw type 2 bus as I'd given up on ever seeing a plastic kit of it, 2 days later guess what revell announced? The one i got is red but will be getting redone as my dads old one in dark blue and white with some parts from the t3 camper to approximate the conversion. Luckily the welly is lhd so that saves me a job. Dads one had quite an interesting life having been bought in germany new and driven back to canada the long way. The only bit of its history I have yet to find out is how it ended up for sale in a newspaper on a small scottish island
