I have been painting 1:1 for years. Two weeks ago I repaired and painted a motorcycle tank for a friend.  Turned out beautiful.  Let it cure out for week,  went to pick it up and....dropped it. New dent, multiple scratches. Yesterday I repaired everything,  and painted it. The clear coat proceeded to lift and looks just like yours. So I walked away.  I have enough paint left for one more try.....

It happens to everyone once in awhile. ?

  I don't do this in the middle of summer.  Yes, it's been unusually cool, in fact can see snow on San Fransisco Peaks still, been an awesome ski season for them.

Thanks.  I thought he was from Ireland.  

I fixed the air intake funnel.  I also put carbon-fiber decals on the wing support, the Scale Motorsport decals gave me fits on my Monster Miata because of large size and curvature which caused them to break apart, and also learned Solvaset can ruin them, so was safe with a small and flat piece, and now I feel that I can surmount obstacles. 

Sprayed gloss clear, no runs, no drips, no errors.
Wet sanded the body.  Ended up with nasty scratches for some reason, so a little putty was put on.  Leaving it alone tonight.

Back on track.... fingers crossed.  Since I used up the white primer, got a fresh bottle of gloss white, and lightly airbrushed over and over and around to cover the sanded over parts, got enough coverage to be happy with doing the color again.  Put in the "dryer" all day, then very lightly wet-sanded the dust specks, then painted this evening.  Just about used up the whole bottle of nail color!  Hope to slightly wet-sand, then last coat tomorrow.

Started on the lights.  The old kit was the usual chromed "lights" that I can't stand.  The headlights are the barchetta aftermarket lenses, the rectangle lights are from a Tamiya Honda.  I save various foil, think it was holiday packaging for the headlights, wine bottle for the other, polished first.  I drilled a Corian chunk for making the reflectors, and cut a frame for rectangle.  Used thin solder wire for the headlight rings, superglued to the foil, then cut, touched up with more glue.

Used the AZ MVD website to make the plate.  Added the 19 tag.  Had the copy shop reduce to 1/2" wide, and got printed.

Not out of the woods yet..... having some minor issues, won't go into it.  I have sprayed clear gloss, and wet-sanded.

Sprayed flat black, in places normally not done on 904s.

Glued the lights on, starting on the body.

Windshield needed something, wanted to try the Alclad gold, was hoping it would be more like a mirror than regular paint.

Used some of the Indy decals.

Added some photo-etch details.  Put the badge on the hood, I looked at pictures of the real thing, they were way at the front edge, to about a foot back, and some do not have one at all, so it's fair game.  I used wire insulation for nuts, on the wing pivots.

Funny how things aren't fitting as well now.  Doors don't slip into the hinge holes, part of the problem is I can't seen because of the flat black.  

Detail painted the other lights.  Picked a photo-etch screen.

Debating how to attach the wing, use pins as planned, or just glue on and fake bolts.  A little bummed about the flat black overspray, but I am planning to weather a little anyway.

This Hobby Design screen looks pretty cool, like woven wire, glad I got it.

I got the interior headliner detailed, fabricated a mirror, paper headliner and sun visors, mylar sticker for the mirrors.

I didn't get the whole weekend to work on it, culture junk Friday night, wife's friend housewarming plus 8 year old daughter birthday so I knocked out a wood dollhouse front, today my mom wanted to see Oatman on Route 66.

You guys are killing me!  I see other projects that truly are art, Teresi comes to mind.  Compared to the metal, machined, etc. work, this is just another model.  But do appreciate the good vibes.

Thank you very much.  I'm too humble, I call it crapsmanship, when you can hide the ugly with a pretty color.  Seems like I tend to mar things with final assembly, so keeping my fingers crossed.

I'm thinking of making another interior mirror already, it doesn't look like Porsche Design.

Talking about art, just saw the 1948 Ford F-1 Airplane Version, I'm very impressed with that for inspiration.

Now it's getting to "made this teeny tiny part, so I can bump my thread up" routine.    I used the photo-etch bender tool, it was something I had no clue what to get but *had to* try something to find out if I should get a different one.  Bent the front grill screen, I kept some of the solid edge on and used for the top to keep that edge straight.  I also modified the parts box windshield wiper, it's flipped over, drilled for a wire pin, photo-etch screw heads at the pivot points, thin plastic blade.  I almost screwed up the body when the drill walked over, fixed with a grommet.  LOL

Sliding door window.  I've noticed a variety of windows on the 904, some without the solid divider bar, or all solid, or what looks like a vent window.  I kept what exists, and discovered when making the fixed window, there was about 1 mm difference between the doors!  I cut up food packaging for the plexiglass windows.  I used the photo-etch bender to make the aluminum channels.  What I like about using the aluminum, can bend it to make things tighter or looser after gluing on, plastic tends to spring back.

The license plate, I wanted to make it moveable, so it lays down at speed to reduce drag and act as a spoiler.  I used a microscopic spring that was salvaged from an electronic device.  Used aluminum newspaper printing plate, and guitar string.  Guess to be road legal, I better add a light.  

Hobby Design fire extinguisher is a really nice kit onto itself.   The decals went on great.  The photo-etch is crisp, and super fine.  As I was working on it, wondered who would be crazy enough to make these ......   Since the decals also had the symbol for the emergency battery switch, *had to* make the switch, from brass wire, that I smashed flat in the pliers, and made washers from plastic and aluminum using the Waldon punch.  Made a tow hook from salvaged electronic part, painted clear red.

Need to make the other door window channels next.  I'm sure there were more items than my check list showed.  I know coolant hoses, and oil cooler hoses are needed in the engine bay.  Debating on the lug nuts, order detail parts, or make from aluminum rod.  So close.....

1. Door and interior mirrors.
2. Wing support with hydraulic mechanism for air-brake.
3. License plate, which will be mounted to the wing support, with legal light and perhaps the back-up light.  Thought of the name PORNDY (only 6 characters on a special plate).
4. Front wings, which will extend/retract and also rotate, from the radiator vent openings.
5. Handbrake, a little more mechanical than the normal fare.
6. Headlights, need to fabricate the reflectors.  Same for driving lights.
7. Oh yea, open other door.
8. Windows, remove wiper from windshield, add a wiper from parts box.  Also sliding door windows.  And rear window, decided no window.
9. 20 lug nuts.
10. Coolant and oil hoses.  Need to look at real Indy engine for wiring, might not pursue.
11. Choose pattern of photo-etch grills, and cut.
12. Lots of sanding, then the best part, start painting!  It's going to be a nail 'polish' color, not decided color yet.
13. Fire extinguisher, DONE!
14. Emergency battery disconnect switch, DONE!
