Aspieguy Posted June 23, 2019 Posted June 23, 2019 It looks like the toon taxi from "who framed Rodger rabbit"!!!
Aspieguy Posted June 29, 2019 Posted June 29, 2019 Are there any updates to this?? It's looking sweet!
Rider Posted June 29, 2019 Posted June 29, 2019 This is really looking great, real nice merging of the two shells. Apoxy Scuplt is pretty useful stuff.
James2 Posted July 7, 2019 Posted July 7, 2019 Another exercise in styrene and putty, let the creative juices flow....

You know Rauh welt Begriff? the guy that is building crazy wide body Porsche's? https://rauhwelt-usa.com/roughworld/ What if he got a hold of a Meyers Manx? I mean a Porsche is basically a Volkswagen, and a Manx is a Volkswagen so therefore a Manx is a Porsche... I started this fantasy build by working up a quick concept sketch... that i then cleaned up a bit. Then it was time to figure out what kits I needed... I picked up an Elvis Manx kit and some Scale Production pieces at NNL East. I had this 959 kit laying around i bought for basically just the tires, seemed like a good donor. Holy molars!!! Loving the imagination and talent here Definitely have my attention
Impalow Posted December 17, 2019 Author Posted December 17, 2019 (edited) So I haven't logged in here for quite awhile... like almost 6months(yikes), but I have been working on this project off and on. Hopefully I can keep some momentum on this one for awhile... I would like to at least have something fresh completed for next years show season. Here are some updates from the past few months! This is how it looked at the Final Toledo NNL if anyone saw it there... I shrunk the 959 windshield down, molded it in and built a targa bar... The Heller 934 sacrificed its dash, and I got that wing to fit much better. After Toledo I had a fit of motivation, and knocked out the next round of filler and molding. Then it got pretty crazy, working on the front end to make it less "smiley", making the chassis and suspension actually fit, correcting (ruining) the ride height and working out the aero items. I also scratch-built the interior pan, and used my silhouette cutter to make some side panel detail and a tiny piece of luggage. Last night i was able to shoot some primer on it, and check out how questionable my rough body work was..... and it is quite questionable... however it looks like it should be salvageable with some time and effort. I also scratch-built an exposed shift mechanism using a couple of ferrari testarossa a-arms and some beads and pins. Edited December 17, 2019 by Impalow
Dann Tier Posted December 17, 2019 Posted December 17, 2019 Welcome back, bud!!.....i'm glad you're cracking on with this one!!......honostly, this has to be THE coolest Dune buggy i've seen so far!!!....VERY well designed!!!!
OldNYJim Posted December 18, 2019 Posted December 18, 2019 I’ve been looking forward to seeing some more on this one! I saw the one pic on Instagram this morning but I’m glad to see more! I really like the side panel detail on the inside of the interior tub, plus the shift linkages are a brilliant touch...LOVE seeing your work Eric!
oPROJECTMAYHEMo Posted December 18, 2019 Posted December 18, 2019 This is awesome! cant wait to see it finished.
Jantrix Posted December 18, 2019 Posted December 18, 2019 Dude. I'm in awe. Very slick work. You make it look sooo easy.
Lowlife ! ! Posted December 19, 2019 Posted December 19, 2019 Hi Eric, great to see you back building again ! Love the manx, great imagination and engineering. Can I suggest a tiny change, your sketch is fantastic but I think the roof and Targa bar are a little tall ? Your sketch just looks more streamlined, and looks longer and lower. The roof somehow makes it look shorter ... Ive commented on plenty of your builds before, you know I'm no expert , its just my opinion mate ! Really look forward to more progress on this
Anglia105E Posted December 19, 2019 Posted December 19, 2019 This project of yours is so off the wall....... that it it's going to work ! Your design skills are exceptional, and transforming your original design idea into the actual model is fascinating..... you will get there, Eric. David
Impalow Posted December 15, 2020 Author Posted December 15, 2020 Thanks guys! Remember this thing? Well I got distracted for awhile but its back on the bench. Santa Eric brought me a New AnyCubic Resin 3d printer, so it helped me over the hump with a couple things on this.. I never really liked the tread pattern on the Tamiya 959 tires, so I modeled up some Yokohama Advan Neovas at the same size, then the signature air cooled Porsche fan had the pesky belt molded in over the fins, and finally I downloaded a Turbocharger model from Thingverse then mirror imaged it...so I can scratch build a symmetrical system. Literally the first prints off the printer, and I still have a lot to learn... But so far im quite happy with the results!
Mattilacken Posted December 15, 2020 Posted December 15, 2020 Awesome project! Great execution! 3D printed parts looks good! What material is that?
OldNYJim Posted December 15, 2020 Posted December 15, 2020 Those 3D printed parts look great! I've been casually looking at one of these...did you have to buy something to cure the resin or does it set up ok without UV light? Think of the crazy frames you'll be able to make with that thing!
Impalow Posted December 15, 2020 Author Posted December 15, 2020 (edited) Thanks guys! I'm really excited about the possibilities with the printer... my goal is a future build with hardly any kit parts, of a car that was loosely designed but never built .... the Tucker Carioca... Between that and my Dad building a 1:12th scale replica of my 1:1 LS-Datsun Z this printer should technically pay for itself over ordering Shapeways prints. 27 minutes ago, CabDriver said: did you have to buy something to cure the resin or does it set up ok without UV light? I bought the package set with the wash/cure station... It makes the workflow easier and cleaner, although I can see its still pretty easy to make a big mess... I think the parts need a final cure of some sort, I know guys just set things out in the sun.. but winter in ohio, the sun is missing. This setup seems more control-able, however I am only one night into it... I did make more usable parts in one night than I did the entire time I had the FDM printer I bought for the same price in 2015.. ? Im already thrilled with it! Edited December 15, 2020 by Impalow
OldNYJim Posted December 15, 2020 Posted December 15, 2020 Nice setup! Same here - not much sun in grey Indiana right now, so if I invest I'll likely need the 'baker' too. I'm really excited to see the bananas stuff you come up with with this thing! I think you're getting 99% of what it's possible to get out a scrapbook cutter, so this is the next logical step!
Rocking Rodney Rat Posted December 15, 2020 Posted December 15, 2020 This is just the kind of project I love to see, imagination, ingenuity and a vision of what can be. Kitbashing at it's best! The whole 3D printing process is getting more interesting every day. -RRR
Impalow Posted December 15, 2020 Author Posted December 15, 2020 Thanks guys!! 2 hours ago, Mattilacken said: Awesome project! Great execution! 3D printed parts looks good! What material is that? Hey Anton! sorry your question got lost in there! Its a water washable UV cured resin from elegoo!
Dave72 Posted December 16, 2020 Posted December 16, 2020 Looks great! Love your vision and fab skills! Will definitely be following this.
Koellefornia Kid Posted December 16, 2020 Posted December 16, 2020 Nice to see it back on the bench! Such a cool project!
Impalow Posted December 28, 2020 Author Posted December 28, 2020 Thanks guys!! Been making some progress on the turbo system... quite inefficient in real life, but it looks cool.. hahaha! all the bluish-grey pieces are off the new 3D printer!
Impalow Posted December 28, 2020 Author Posted December 28, 2020 The best experiment so far are these 3d printed exhaust flanges... look way better than the photoetched options in my opinion, also way easier to work with..
