mad mike Posted November 7, 2019 Posted November 7, 2019 Hello everyone! I just finished one of my long-run projects, another 1/8 scale engine model - the 1965 Ford V8 DOHC competition engine, also known as the Indy. It's a special machine, an important part of racing history in my opinion and thankfully one with a complete handbook available. First of all I want to thank John for doing a superb job on most of the CAD drawings, I did the auxiliaries and the Hewland gearbox. As usual this is a full scratch build about 22cm long using 3d printed parts mostly, some of them molded in silicone and cast in resin; the whole project took about six years. For now I'll post pics of the finished model and add some WIP pics later. I've heard several people say that a 1/8 model kit of the Indy was available some time ago, if anyone has info or even pics of that it would be really great to hear about it. Alright, here are the pics, I hope you enjoy them! 1 1

Gramps46 Posted November 9, 2019 Posted November 9, 2019 Really hard to believe it is not real. Congratulations on an incredible build.
Rich Chernosky Posted November 10, 2019 Posted November 10, 2019 Level of detail is incredible, if i didn't know it was a model I would swear it was real.
MrObsessive Posted November 10, 2019 Posted November 10, 2019 WOW, WOW, WOW!! That is absolutely incredible!
MAGIC MUFFLER Posted November 11, 2019 Posted November 11, 2019 I'm blown away..!!!! The talent here is truly remarkable!
mad mike Posted November 11, 2019 Author Posted November 11, 2019 Thank you, everyone, for the kind words! Glad you like my work. Now for a little "making of": the following three pics show the test fitting of the first printed parts. You can easily see the quality differ from the Objet/Stratasys parts to the Asiga parts (the yellow ones). Those blue parts need a lot of sanding and primer.

mad mike Posted November 13, 2019 Author Posted November 13, 2019 Thank you all! Here are some of the auxiliaries, ready for assembly, and a pic of all the stuff that went into the engine front.
Richard Bartrop Posted November 13, 2019 Posted November 13, 2019 A fantastic build, and a great job on duplicating the finish of the original.
Ace-Garageguy Posted November 21, 2019 Posted November 21, 2019 Holy cow...that's some fine work there, sir. Most impressive. If you ever should decide to sell a kit, please let me know.
vamach1 Posted November 21, 2019 Posted November 21, 2019 I'll ask. Can this be downsized to a smaller scale like 1/25? Asking for a friend. ?
mad mike Posted November 21, 2019 Author Posted November 21, 2019 Hello Rex, tell your friend that I actually did that, because why not? Here's the 1/24 version. If he wants one, PM me.
1930fordpickup Posted November 21, 2019 Posted November 21, 2019 Holly cow this is awesome, even in the smaller scale.
LaughingIndian Posted November 26, 2019 Posted November 26, 2019 WOW x 10 ... you added just enough “weathering” to bring out the detail but still look factory fresh ... beautiful!
