avidinha Posted February 17, 2020 Posted February 17, 2020 I built this by combining the body and interior from the '66 Suburban kit and the chassis and drive train from the '84 GMC kit. They required some modifications to fit together, but went together pretty easily. I scratch built the ladder and roof rack. I'll continue to add stuff to the roof rack as I come across things that I think will look good. 1

shoopdog Posted February 17, 2020 Posted February 17, 2020 Very, very cool build! Great color choice.
RichCostello Posted February 17, 2020 Posted February 17, 2020 Looks great, I did the same thing with a 60 Chevy pickup, and it turned out pretty good too!
Steamboat Posted February 17, 2020 Posted February 17, 2020 Nice job. The front end is especially nice. The headlights and turn signal lights look real!
stavanzer Posted February 17, 2020 Posted February 17, 2020 That Rack is Awesome! I'd like to see a How-To on how you built it. You nailed the rest, too. Great Build!
Tom Geiger Posted February 17, 2020 Posted February 17, 2020 Very nice work! I like it a whole lot! Maybe find a couple of gas cans and suit cases for the rack!

Thanks, unfortunately I didn't take any progress pictures of the rack.i just googled pictures of racks and bent some brass rod into a shape I liked and went from there. The ladder sides are made from solder, it was easier to get the bends I needed.

Funny you should mention that. I have a gas can I was thinking about casting so I could paint a couple red for fuel and a couple black for water.

Note that both of them started as the same can. I reshaped and added different handles. The one in the back has a standard cap. I thought it would be interesting to have the nozzle on the front one.
Goose1957 Posted February 18, 2020 Posted February 18, 2020 Very nice build. I was going to do the same thing with my 2 kits. Glad you finished yours. Mine keeps getting pushed back by other projects. Really like the stance and color choice. The roof rack and ladder are perfect for your build. Good job. Jeff
ewetwo Posted February 18, 2020 Posted February 18, 2020 Very cool. Modern yet vintage with the color choice.

slusher Posted February 19, 2020 Posted February 19, 2020 Outstanding Chevy!! Love the color and so clean I like that....
Chuckyg1 Posted February 20, 2020 Posted February 20, 2020 I've wanted to do something similar with mine. Thanks to your excellent build, I now know where to get the under carriage. Really nice work. I like it a lot.
carrucha Posted February 22, 2020 Posted February 22, 2020 Cool Suburban. Good work at combining both kits.
