Rbray47 Posted April 13, 2020 Posted April 13, 2020 Not sure if this is considered a car or truck...I'm sure the mods will take care of it if I'm wrong. This is an old build given to me in pieces by my older brother. He built it in the late 80s. Being in the Navy, he moved a lot. It got broken somewhere along the way. He gave it to me around 00 or 01 and I tossed it in the closet and forgot about it. Then, a year or so later I won an ebay auction for a lot of kits that had either been started or parted out. One of the incomplete kits happened to be an older issue of my brother's build. I stripped off the Testors light blue paint and repainted it with the closest Tamiya shade I could find. The wood was molded in tan, so I just brushed tamiya clear orange over it which turned out pretty well. I had to replace his wire wheels because I broke one trying to clean them up. I ended with 53 Corvette hubcaps and tires. All of the chrome and the engine came from the donor kit. It's been 10 years since finishing, so I cant recall everything that I replaced, but for the most part I used his kit.
Tom Geiger Posted April 13, 2020 Posted April 13, 2020 Very pretty in blue! That kit is part of the Monogram Model A series I’ve started a collection of. You’re came out very well, love how your wood looks!
espo Posted April 13, 2020 Posted April 13, 2020 Very nice rebuild. The Hub Caps actually gave it a different look, more of an every day driver. Neatly trimmed details and the wood looks good also.
peekay Posted April 13, 2020 Posted April 13, 2020 Nice colours and I like the choice of wheels. I must remember your wood treatment - simple but very effective.
Flat32 Posted April 13, 2020 Posted April 13, 2020 I've got a treasured Danbury Mint LE 1931 and your model looks at least as good if not better detailed. A coupe details definitely better. Any chance to see the underside??

larman Posted April 14, 2020 Posted April 14, 2020 Great job! I love the color and I really like what you did with the wood. Very simple, but it looks a lot better than many I have seen that look over done. Also like the Corvette wheel covers. The whole car has a very correct late 50's early 60's vibe.
Rbray47 Posted April 14, 2020 Author Posted April 14, 2020 Thanks for all of the compliments. Yes, I was going for late 50s early 60s. I used to really be into that style of rods and customs. Now though, I tend to build more 70s and 80s style (jacked up rears and wide rims)
mchook Posted April 14, 2020 Posted April 14, 2020 That's really nice. I love seeing a nicely done Model A, great job.
stavanzer Posted April 14, 2020 Posted April 14, 2020 Looks like it came straight from a Beach Boys, Album Cover, photo shoot. Way to nail the Cali Surfer Vibe!
Spex84 Posted April 14, 2020 Posted April 14, 2020 It's all beautifully and cleanly done, but the wood treatment really caught my eye! Hard to believe it's just Tamiya clear orange. Wow!
carrucha Posted April 26, 2020 Posted April 26, 2020 (edited) Sweet woody wagon. Very good job. The body color contrasts well with the wood. The wheels look very good on this kit. Very convincing wood. I am going to have to use your technique on my next woody wagon build. Edited April 26, 2020 by carrucha
