ARII. Mustang Mach 1 Concept

Vintage kit that appears to be pretty simple and less detailed than you might expect . This is a 1/20 scale kit so I hope it’s ok that is posted here . The kit tires in the kit were unusable as you can see . I purchased some others I plan to use but will need some mods I’m sure . I have seen photos of this car in white and like a candy blue . Not sure I will worry about what color I use .

As you probably know the Mach1 show car got an update for the show circuit so this represents the revised one with the more aggressive snout.  I have only seen pictures of the cars in a burgundy metallic color and with the same wheels on both variations.  Given the odd scale finding “correct” wheels isn’t in the cards but it my knowledge this was the only model kit of this latter version.

Those are some wild looking 4 lug wheels. Did the 1:1 car have 4 lug wheels? I like the spoke wheels at the top of this thread. I'll be checking in on this pony car build.

Thanks guys. Yes there seems there was a version of this kit that was motorized. This on is not. The engine in this kit is a joke ( photos later ). I will either try and adapt another engine into it or I will simply glue the hood closed. The kit wheels were not ever on the real car that I know of. No photos found to support those kit wheels.

The 1:1 car had the wheels in the FoMoCo pictures above.  Not sure where those awful four ug wheels came from - probably excess inventory in a Japanese warehouse and someone thought hey throw some cool mag wheels in there those Japanese kids will not know the difference.

Getting in a little deeper in this thing . There was a fairly big gap when I set the trunk lid in place . I have added a strip of sheet plastic ( still needs trimming ) to tighten it up a bit . Also I am going to try and get the engine pictured in the engine bay in place of that lump of plastic the kit came with . Some modifications will be needed but ain’t it always . Seems I will also need to modify the body for the larger  rear tires . I may have to make some fender flairs . I did modify the rear end and sucked the tires in as far as I could but it was not far enough . This will not be a replica of the real car .

In that case, any chance of that Barris-esque aardvark snout grill, getting replaced? It's the only blemish on a very attractive automobile. The front of an Avanti or Superbird might help fill in the space between the headlights?

cool project.  could be one to try and represent in 1/25 using some of the early AMT custom front parts, and the 1/25 67-68 shelby rear bits..

maybe even some lindberg parts. and one of the AMT Mach 1/Superstang/Ironhorse bodies..

That is a nice body!!

Good luck with your project!
