Thanks David. I guess I can think of it as either good news or bad news. From my wallet's perspective, bad news!?

Pretty sure my wallet is going to melt at NNL east …..

I know the price thing has been beaten to death…but $38 for a snap kit?!

I did pick up one of these though, to almost-complete my collection of this series - $15 out the door seemed pretty fair:

They are priced that way because they're 40% off every other week.

Hobby Lobby just puts the MSRP on the box. Blame Manufactures for that. I never pay it at Hobby Lobby or elsewhere.

The plastic model companies have gone to the same method model trains manufactures in that MSRP is the listed price but street price is often 20 to 40% off that.

Stopped in at my local HL the other day.  Nothing new as far as automotive kits, but at least the shelves seemed well stocked.

One item of interest is that prices continue to bounce around.  Several of the Revell/Monogram kits that were priced at $39.99 have dropped a bit ('37 Ford pickup is now $34.99, for example).  Still a fair number of their kits still at $39.99.

On the other hand, the AMT 2021 Charger R/T jumped $10 up to $39.99 (I figured that initial $29.99 was a boo-boo!)

Waiting for my local HL to get the NEW AMT 66 Mustang Fastback.

Also wondering if they will carry the new '65 and '68 GTO curbsides (plus the '64 Comet).

I'd really like to see them get in the Reveal '30 Model A coupe also, but I'm starting to think thats not gonna happen, for whatever reason.

Seems like they only get different kits about once or maybe twice a year if you're lucky.   At least locally that's how it is .   But they're pretty good about keeping what they carry stocked.

Wish Micheals did a better job of keeping models stocked.

Are there any ways to tell what model kits will show up in the future?

Are the Createx line of paints ever on 40% off? If so, is it the same rotation as models? Thanks.

Never that I saw…

Supplies and tools are "necessities" that you are likely to buy regardless of price (within reason), while the kits themselves are impulse purchases that you can be swayed into with a coupon or percent-off sale.

Kind of like supermarkets seldom having staple items on sale (except for maybe milk or eggs, and that's to get you in the door).  Grocery coupons are often for items you seldom buy, or haven't bought before, in order to sway you to throw one into the cart.

Noticed that most spray paint cans are still at the unchanged old price. On the internet they show a new price of $8.29 to $8.99 and I picked one for $5.79.

40% off and free shipping on orders over $50. And it looks like some kits are cheaper than at the stores.

Yeah but you have to be careful with online ordering because they may send a kit from a group ,you need to read the fine print closely.

When a particular kit is listed, you should be okay.  The "assortments" or generic descriptions are another story.  You might think you are getting a Supernatural Impala because of the item pictured, but you might wind up with a 007 Mustang kit.

Exactly. I learned that the hard way. Then was told to just take it to a store. The store said no. You have to send it back. So yes. Read the description. I also was told to get the right kit. Was to call and place an order.

We were talking about the 40% off coupon at our club meeting on Saturday, how they’ve limited it now just to kits AND raised kit prices to cover it.

So I told this story…. I have an eBay store and eBay kept hammering me to offer discounts, send coupons, use the “Send Offer” etc.  In response I raised all my prices by 25%.

Funny thing.. the higher prices don’t seem to have hurt my sales, but now I regularly offer 10-15-20% off sales and people respond well!  And I’m still making more than my original price!

J.C. Penney tried to eliminate "sale pricing" a couple of years ago, and just sell everything at their lowest price every day.  Their sales tanked, and they wound up going back to business as usual.  I guess most people want to go away thinking they "got a deal".

Why wait. Head over to any online hobby store like scalehobbyist, hobbylinc, etc... Or even your local hobby shop instead.

I stopped buying kits at HL a long time ago. I don't care if there's a 40% coupon deal or not. It's always the same old, same old.
