TransAmMike Posted January 29, 2021 Posted January 29, 2021 (edited) Began this build late October and finished last week. This is a close replica of the car I ordered new in 1971. Since the 4-4-2 was a bit out of my price range I decided to order a kind of 4-4-2 clone. Yes, the scooped hood (option W-25) was ordered as well as was the dual exhaust which was an option. The rear bumper as seen in the pictures is not accurate as it came only only on the 4-4-2 but since there isn't a model car regular bumper available that I know of its what it is. Back when I picked up the car new I was pretty dissappointed because I thought by ordering the duals it's how it would come. It came with the "poverty hub caps". I put the Cragers on probably the first week I took delivery of it. Any way, as for the model, it's painted with Createx and topcoated with Rustoleum Acrylic Clear Lacquer. The color is pretty close to the original Saturn Gold. Thanks for looking. Thought I'd add this pic, this is a replica (almost) of the '66 GTO Convertable my now wife of 45 years owned at the same time Edited January 29, 2021 by TransAmMike add picture
espo Posted January 29, 2021 Posted January 29, 2021 I love the color. Great looking build and I bet you wish you still had this one. The finish looks great and the Cragers compliment the car well. Ordering the car without the 442 option may have saved you a lot on insurance also. There is always something special about building a model of 1:1 cars that you owned from long ago.
TransAmMike Posted January 29, 2021 Author Posted January 29, 2021 Thanks David, thats true about the insurance too. Yep, would be nice to still have it. Crazy thing, after a couple of years, I decided to sell it and I bought of all things, the only foreign car I ever bought new, a Datsun 260Z.
AMT68 Posted January 29, 2021 Posted January 29, 2021 Outstanding work Mike and I've been looking forward to seeing this one complete. The gold/black combination is great and it's detailed superbly throughout. Didn't realize these could be ordered as lower priced 442 clones but then that's more or less what Pontiac did with the T-37 LeMans and Chevrolet did with the Heavy Chevy Chevelle.
TransAmMike Posted January 29, 2021 Author Posted January 29, 2021 Thats correct Tom about the T-37 and Heavy Chevy.... also the Cutlass Rallye 350. Thanks for looking and the complements, I'm still a WIP tho?
RAMBENNA Posted January 29, 2021 Posted January 29, 2021 really well done, looks great, you did a fantastic job
AmericanMuscleFan Posted January 29, 2021 Posted January 29, 2021 Very beautiful build Mike! The '71 Oldsmobile (Cutlass or 4-4-2) was one of my favorite GM body styles! I especially love the front end which looks like the Buick GS (or GSX) from the same era which is another great design from GM. There's no denying it, car enthusiasts were spoiled for choice at that time with all these beautiful body models available in car dealership courts, regardless of the brand... Very nice color by the way! Bravo! ?
Dragonhawk1066 Posted January 29, 2021 Posted January 29, 2021 Looks good! It's unfortunate that the Johan mold of this car was apparently lost forever as I would love the chance to build one. Better yet, a hardtop version of the Revell '72 Indy Pace Car so I can replicate my first car.
Hmann68 Posted January 30, 2021 Posted January 30, 2021 Beautiful Olds! It must’ve been a great looking car in real life ??

Plowboy Posted January 30, 2021 Posted January 30, 2021 Very nice looking Olds Mike! I really like the color on it! To me, there's nothing cooler than a model built after the full scale once owned! Nice work!

I've been thinking that same thing, unfortunately the Convertible kit is nearing un-obtanium status and prices anymore. Missing Link Resin used to make the hardtop body, but by the time I finally decided to pick one up he no longer makes them☹️☹️. I snoozed, and I lost?, lol.
TransAmMike Posted January 30, 2021 Author Posted January 30, 2021 Thanks so much for all the compliments!! So far I have built 4 models of cars my wife and I have owned and 1 currently owned with still more to do LOL.
