TransAmMike Posted April 1, 2021 Posted April 1, 2021 Posted on "Barn Finds" to day this crazy '57. Was said to be originally military transport car at a military airfield.
larry ray Posted April 1, 2021 Posted April 1, 2021 I use to see them in north east kansas back in 62 to65 as taxies we lived 50 miles from St joe Missiour and 60 miles from Tppeka ks
Tom Geiger Posted April 1, 2021 Posted April 1, 2021 AKA -Airport Limo. Very common back in the day. Not a common survivor, especially as solid as that one looks.
Ace-Garageguy Posted April 1, 2021 Posted April 1, 2021 Back when I had a fleet-services company, one of my clients was the largest Domino's franchise in the country at the time. They had an early-'60s stretched Chevy wagon, ex-airport, as a promotional vehicle....all done up in the then-current store colors and graphics. Lots of fun to drive that thing around.
Motor City Posted April 1, 2021 Posted April 1, 2021 This one has been driving around the Detroit area for a number of years.
TransAmMike Posted April 2, 2021 Author Posted April 2, 2021 I had never seen one of those so I thought it would be interesting to share the picture with y'all.

espo Posted April 2, 2021 Posted April 2, 2021 Being built with the base 150 trim this may very well have a military background. Most air port limos I remember were built off of the higher trim lines. The military used mid '50's Chevrolet sedan deliveries often, but the had side windows like a normal station wagon.
iBorg Posted April 2, 2021 Posted April 2, 2021 I remember seeing these on base when Dad was in the Air Force in the 60's. I'd totally forgotten them. Thanks for the flashback.
Brian Austin Posted April 2, 2021 Posted April 2, 2021 (edited) Sometimes airport limos get rebuilt into novelty rental limos. One example of a '57 can be found on this page: http://my.net-link.net/~dcline/l_s_own1.htm Edited April 2, 2021 by Brian Austin
Spex84 Posted April 2, 2021 Posted April 2, 2021 (edited) I'm super impressed at the apparently tight door gaps and lack of the sag I'd expect to see in a vehicle of that age, build style, and condition. Heck, the roof doesn't even look caved in! Very weird, very cool. Edited April 2, 2021 by Spex84

ChrisBcritter Posted April 2, 2021 Posted April 2, 2021 Spotted this one looking through Louisiana's state photo archive: As well as this one: And this one I found in a 1963 high school yearbook from Muncie, Indiana:
Ace-Garageguy Posted April 9, 2021 Posted April 9, 2021 How 'bout a stretched Russian ZAZ 965? Must be a real screamer with the tiny 2-cylinder aircooled engine...
