Ron57 Posted October 4, 2021 Posted October 4, 2021 (edited) Hello all, I am new here having just joined last week. Here is my first build thread to be posted here. Revell's 1966 GTO. It's a great kit. I am keeping it simple by focusing on paint. I am not adding any wiring to this build just to keep it simple. The body is done with Tamiya Primer then Tamiya Dark Metallic blue then gloss coated with Testers gloss lacquer (my fav). All rattle can rather than airbrush. I still need to give it a polish but I lucked out with no dust. Cheers Edited October 4, 2021 by Ron57 1
Ron57 Posted October 4, 2021 Author Posted October 4, 2021 (edited) I've ordered some chrome paint pens for this build. I've never used them before but I'm hoping they work better than foil. We shall see...... Edited October 4, 2021 by Ron57
mchook Posted October 4, 2021 Posted October 4, 2021 Real nice paint! Everything looks nice, I can't wait to see it finished. Great work!

I like to use molotow chrome pens, kinda scared of foil haha.. that color looks great, Im always looking for 60s 70s style rattle can colors
Zippi Posted October 4, 2021 Posted October 4, 2021 Looks really good so far. I like the colors on the engine. What color is that on the carbs.
Ron57 Posted October 4, 2021 Author Posted October 4, 2021 Thanks all, The Carbs are Tamiya X-12 Gold leaf over silver. It's sort of a transparent paint and works well for carbs and brake boosters etc.
Roadrunner Posted October 5, 2021 Posted October 5, 2021 Looks excellent, Ron. Will you be foiling this baby? Foiling is my worst nightmare, as I'm really no good at it;... too much coffeine, probably.
Painted Black Posted October 5, 2021 Posted October 5, 2021 Paint look awesome, right now pens are the way to go, what with the junk BMF thats out there.
espo Posted October 5, 2021 Posted October 5, 2021 That's a very deep dark Blue color, I don't think you're going to need much polishing at all.
Ron57 Posted October 5, 2021 Author Posted October 5, 2021 Thanks for the kind words all. I have never used the pens, I am looking forward to giving them a go. Ron 1
Ron57 Posted October 26, 2021 Author Posted October 26, 2021 Not my best effort but it's complete. Great kit
Dominik Posted October 26, 2021 Posted October 26, 2021 nice work! And welcome to the community. You've choosed one of the best kits Revell made. well done! Please make some pictures for the galery
Dragonhawk1066 Posted October 27, 2021 Posted October 27, 2021 Good looking Goat! I love Tamiya Sprays, they're almost like using an airbrush.
happy grumpy Posted October 27, 2021 Posted October 27, 2021 That's a beautiful build Ron. The paint is beautiful. Tamiya Sprays are perfect for car bodies. They lay down very smooth and they are very forgiving. Their color choices keep growing. Your build does this kit justice.
TransAmMike Posted October 27, 2021 Posted October 27, 2021 Missed that one, very nice looking Goat Ron?
bisc63 Posted October 27, 2021 Posted October 27, 2021 I really love that color, and the whole build looks very clean and well done. Nice job!
Andrew McD Posted October 27, 2021 Posted October 27, 2021 Was the detailing done with a molotow chrome pen? What's your impression with how well that worked? I'm asking as I struggle with BMF.
David G. Posted October 27, 2021 Posted October 27, 2021 Beautiful paint and interior! Assembly work looks great too. David G.
