KWT Posted May 29, 2022 Posted May 29, 2022 (edited) Wow Kurt... That's pretty cool looking. Life got in way right after the run started, so mine is still wrapped up. Actually hoping to get started this weekend... Edited May 29, 2022 by KWT 1

I haven't been building much at all, if I have the energy to build a model, I should be working, and it's make hay time. 6 hours ago, slusher said: Kurt your Mercedes is looking sharp! Thanks!
Mattilacken Posted May 31, 2022 Posted May 31, 2022 (edited) #1 change of plan.. Last year I switched from a truck to a coupe.. this year I am doing the opposite.. the bmw is nice but since this build will be a representation of my self I feel that I should actually build a GM. so being born in October of 1987 I could actually build a Chevy C1500 sold as 1988, they actually launched in April 1987 according to manny sources. And the best looking one actually launched in 1990 the 454SS. Same body as 1987 just some plastic changed and the 454 engine came in. So by stretching it a bit I will be building a 454SS “clone” if you like. That’s if it seems ok with you guys? I think these wheels and tires though.. the stock tires are damaged in a bad cast and the stock wheels would need a visit in the lathe to turn down the thickness of the edge to look good. But this looks good to me. AMT stock car wheels and MPC Pepsi Chevelle tires which ar threaded. best tire for stock look, monogram GTO judge tires. Not sure on the hight.. Mattilacken Posted May 31, 2022 Posted May 31, 2022 (edited) Made some other wheel and tire mock-ups.. here is monogram nascar wheels. MPC tires. Monogram gto tires stock wheels stock wheel MPC tires tire comparison.. GTO, OB custom, OB, MPC ‘70’s nascar Edited May 31, 2022 by Mattilacken
Mattilacken Posted June 1, 2022 Posted June 1, 2022 (edited) I found the tires that I need, they are from Tamiya Grand Cherokee. A darn beautiful tire in soft vinyl! Wish I had couple mor sets of these because they would look so god on any muscle car. Edited June 1, 2022 by Mattilacken

I used a set years ago on a hi-po Dodge Monaco I built, I think I was able to use the AMT kit's fat treaded tyres on the Monogram wheels that time. I hadn't thought about using the Grand Cherokee tyres on anything else, but I'll bear that in mind. I have that one in the stash and I was going to use its wheels on something else. Good luck with this new build! I still haven't made any progress on mine..... 1

Mattilacken Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 (edited) #1 454SS Since the C5R Silverado race truck with its 427 Katech engine have gotten a turbo setup, the race team found them self with a extra carbon intake system, which would fit a LSX 454 longblock. ? So the Silverado trans will be sent out to Gear Star for a full rebuild to handle the power of the lsx 454, and the distance and later the payload when used as a hauler for the C5R Silverado when going racing. I had a feeling that it would be hard to build it OB.. And a lousy truck 454 engine could not cut it.. Edited June 8, 2022 by Mattilacken 3

Fat Brian Posted June 10, 2022 Posted June 10, 2022 I'm going to switch my starting kit, I had cut the tail light panel from the MPC kit and I can't really find a good way to put it back. I recently got a deal on a Monogram Cobra so I'll be starting on that one. I'm still building the same thing, just starting with a different kit. The MPC kit will still get built, just a different style. 1
Beans Posted June 10, 2022 Posted June 10, 2022 #11 - 1970 Camaro Z28 Calling this one done. Not my best but definitely the most I have customized any model. Here's a list of the mods: opened up the fender wells Created wide body and front and rear body modifications LSX engine Dual electric fans independent rear suspension Racing drive shaft Custom wheels and tires Disc brakes all around Exhaust re routed through the interior and out through the tail lights. Custom grill Custom rear spoiler and diffuser Carbon fiber hood and mirrors Rear window louvers Interior roll bar Racing seats with 5 point harness Custom steering wheel Extra long stick shift Rear seat removed and auxiliary fuel tank added Paint is candy orange over gold MS license plate Named it the F-Bomb because I dropped so many of them during the build. 2
Lunajammer Posted June 10, 2022 Posted June 10, 2022 Wow Joe, every inch of that Camaro screams power! If it's not your best effort, it's at least your furthest reach, every inch has been considered. A real racer. When the time comes, don't forget to post pics to the starting line in November.

Thank you. This was one where I started out super motivated but by the end was settling for good enough. Still happy with the way it came out though.

Been there done that, wish I had a dollar each time, wouldn't have to work. ? Important thing, it's DONE! This is good practice, for whenever I work on dead WIP that are stalled because of suspension design and fabrication over-my-head time. 1
