Scott8950 Posted January 28, 2022 Posted January 28, 2022 If this has been posted before mods can delete. This guy has some serious talent, a true craftsman! 1
peteski Posted January 28, 2022 Posted January 28, 2022 Those are really cool, but then again I'm a sucker for any type of miniatures. I wonder how long it will take for someone to chime in stating that "dwarf" is a derogatory term, and that (some of) those little cars might be offended by it. We live in a strange world . . . 1
Keavdog Posted January 28, 2022 Posted January 28, 2022 I've seen the dwarf dirt track cars run out here at Barona speedway, but man... nothing like those. They are beautiful. Thanks for posting. 1

I just did a quick Google, and Dwarf is actually the correct term, or "dwarfism", and "midget" could be considered the "derogatory" term. Either way, if you have a loved one under 5' 11inches...they are a Dwarf. ?

Dave Van Posted January 29, 2022 Posted January 29, 2022 That segment was on last week again. Not my thing...but SKILLS beyond my world!

Brian Austin Posted January 29, 2022 Posted January 29, 2022 You can go down a long rabbit hole researching half-scale cars and trucks. Some custom built, some available for purchase. There were even racing series involving children.

I was surprised to learn that the running gear is just standard Toyota mechanicals, but it makes sense that a small Toyota would be correct size for a 3/4 size of a larger American car.

Brian Austin Posted January 29, 2022 Posted January 29, 2022 Le Mans-style racing in miniature... https://www.lemansclassic.com/language/en/little-big-mans-2/ Special Interest Autos ran an article on the '39 Chevy, and yes, it's 7/10 scale. https://www.hemmings.com/stories/2013/02/03/sia-flashback-ernie-adamss-dwarf-1939-chevrolet 5/8 and 60%-reduction sized cars will also pop up in a web search for half-scale cars.
Ace-Garageguy Posted January 29, 2022 Posted January 29, 2022 (edited) I met the guy who built the little Merc, Ernie Adams, back in 2011 or so, just after he pulled into a parking slot at Oatman, Az., on the Rt.66 Fun Run that year. I'd seen the car earlier, parked in Kingman, was blown away by the quality of the craftsmanship, but he wasn't around. Seeing him unfold himself from the baby Merc, I had to talk to him. He's a wizard, no doubt about it. Edited January 29, 2022 by Ace-Garageguy

Brian Austin Posted January 30, 2022 Posted January 30, 2022 I was struck by how many miles he has put on his Mercury. Would you drive that little thing regularly with SUVs and trucks on the highway? ?

Matt Bacon Posted January 30, 2022 Posted January 30, 2022 Thriving scene over here in the UK, too: https://www.austinj40pedalcarclub.co.uk/ https://petrolicious.com/articles/the-settrington-cup-is-a-unique-pedal-powered-take-on-vintage-racing These started out as kids toys, then became fairground rides as they dated, and are now powering a small scale take on the classic car hobby. There are restorers, resto-mod builders and "continuation cars" believe it or not... best, M.

We live in a strange world . . . Give me a break. Are you really going to start up with the derogatory BS term just like the rest of the liberals? It’s time folks man up and quit pointing out the sensitivity of offending the term of dwarf and midgets. It’s not a derogatory term, just a definition. Look it up. I get it that we are living in different times. But geez... enough with the cancel culture and woke BS in today’s world. 1 1

Rick L Posted January 30, 2022 Posted January 30, 2022 Not to worry guys. The only people who are offended are the fourth estate.
Ace-Garageguy Posted January 31, 2022 Posted January 31, 2022 (edited) Somebody seems to be missing the point entirely. EDIT: I don't mean to be unkind, but what do kiddie-cars have to do with the beautifully crafted one-of-a-kind objects of mechanical art this thread was started about?
