Straightliner59 Posted July 6, 2022 Posted July 6, 2022 It's a shame someone would throw away a perfectly good Enderle barrel valve, in such a manner!
Goose1957 Posted July 6, 2022 Posted July 6, 2022 I always loved this photo. Shame to throw away a perfectly good crank, rods and pistons, lol. Jeff 2 1 1

espo Posted July 7, 2022 Posted July 7, 2022 In reading a current NHRA rule book these pictures help explain the reason for some of the safety items required in some classes. There are "blankets" required for super chargers and in some cases oil pans and transmission pans for just such reasons. While impressive to see this sort of thing happen in person in the past there are obvious reasons for the changes, and the track crews had a tough time cleaning up the track afterwards.

I've always enjoyed Cole Coonce's writing! I had never seen Alhadeff's photo, either. Very cool!

Jeff That's the " infamous" drop the nuclear burrito picture. He was tired, and just plain forgot to tighten the bolts. 1
