Gramps46 Posted July 21, 2022 Posted July 21, 2022 1968 Corvette L88 Le Mans In 1968 the Swiss Scuderia Filipinetti entered two Corvettes at Le Mans. This 1/24 model is my attempt to replicate the #3 car. The Model: Otaki 1/24 kit. Chosen because of the scale and the flared rear fenders. The hood scoop was wrong and had to be replaced with a new hood from a Revell kit. The wheels and tires were replaced and bumpers had to be found front and rear. The decals are from V-R-M. The paint is Tamiya Italian Red spray TS-08. 4
1959scudetto Posted July 21, 2022 Posted July 21, 2022 Very well done - your effort has paid off, Gary - looks very much like the original - this must have been really a handful to drive (heavy on the brakes, I suppose).
Rich Chernosky Posted July 21, 2022 Posted July 21, 2022 Its a winner Gary, all that conversion work is top notch. Nice touch, a picture of the real car.
Bruce Scully Posted July 21, 2022 Posted July 21, 2022 A great looking build , lots of nice extra detail work .
Dave B Posted July 22, 2022 Posted July 22, 2022 Looks to me like you have nailed it Gary. Very impressive. Dave B
Pierre Rivard Posted July 22, 2022 Posted July 22, 2022 Congratulations Gary. I'm sure this build required a lot of modifications and head scratching and you pulled it off beautifully!
Art Laski Posted July 22, 2022 Posted July 22, 2022 I love it, Gary. Do you know where you sourced the wheels and tires from?
Gramps46 Posted July 22, 2022 Author Posted July 22, 2022 Art, the tires are Fujimi GT40 and the wheels are from a Monogram Owens Corning Corvette kit with a rim added for the rear wheels for more width.
cobraman Posted July 22, 2022 Posted July 22, 2022 I would have to say you nailed it ! Looks good, great job.
Gramps46 Posted July 22, 2022 Author Posted July 22, 2022 Thanks to all for your very kind comments. It was a very challenging project with all the decals and having to scourer the parts boxes for the pieces.
Phildaupho Posted July 22, 2022 Posted July 22, 2022 Very well done model. C3 Corvettes made great looking race cars. There were many memorable versions. I have built the NART version and would someday like to built the DX, AIR and BFG liveried C3s.
Gramps46 Posted July 22, 2022 Author Posted July 22, 2022 I would really like to see your racing C3s Phil.
happy grumpy Posted July 28, 2022 Posted July 28, 2022 Looks like your attempt turned out pretty darn good. It looks exactly the same as the real car. Great replica.
Bainford Posted July 28, 2022 Posted July 28, 2022 I'd say you nailed it, Gary. That's one tough looking Vette. Very nicely done.
Gramps46 Posted July 29, 2022 Author Posted July 29, 2022 Thanks to all for your comments. It means a lot for this old modeler.
Belugawrx Posted July 29, 2022 Posted July 29, 2022 Paint and decals look great Gary, what clear did you lay down on this beauty? Cheers
