majel Posted March 5, 2023 Posted March 5, 2023 Just finished this 911. It went together well like all Tamiya kits, very few fit issues until the very end. The front of the body didn't want to sit down where it should without clamping it down after gluing it in place. I gave the model a post race look using Tamiya weathering kits and oil spots using the toothbrush splatter method. Detailed the body, interior and chassis with Scale motorsport carbon fiber decals and photoetch set. Unfortunately, once the body is installed a lot of the detail is lost without really good eyes and a flashlight! This its my first attempt at weathering a body to give it the raced in look, overall i like the way it came out. 6
Jim B Posted March 5, 2023 Posted March 5, 2023 Great looking Porsche. I like the post-race look. Very well done.
Paul Waymouth Posted March 5, 2023 Posted March 5, 2023 The weathering looks super authentic, well done!
Pierre Rivard Posted March 6, 2023 Posted March 6, 2023 Well done GT1 Jim. I built that kit recently and liked it too. Thank you for sharing a method for race weathering. Someday when I find the courage to try this I will refer to your work.
David G. Posted March 6, 2023 Posted March 6, 2023 Excellent looking Porsche, lots of great looking detail! Nice job on the post-race weathering. David G,
Rich Chernosky Posted March 6, 2023 Posted March 6, 2023 That's a tough kit to get right with all those decals, but I think you nailed it pretty good.
rrb124@sbcglobal.net Posted March 6, 2023 Posted March 6, 2023 Excellent! Deserves its own glass case. Checked out the perfect rear suspension and gearbox.
majel Posted March 6, 2023 Author Posted March 6, 2023 Thank you guys!! Rich: the Tamiya decals were quite a challenge, a few of them tore and I had to piece them back together. Most of the issues with the Tamiya decals were probably my own fault. There are a lot of decals and although challenging they conformed with setting solution. The Scale motorsports carbon fiber decals were great to work with. They were easy to apply and very forgiving if they had to be moved. The bottom pan of the chassis is made up of 7 or 9 decals all of which laid down and conformed to the bare plastic real well.
Belugawrx Posted March 7, 2023 Posted March 7, 2023 Nicely done Jim, I really like that livery and you did a great job with the decals ?
majel Posted March 14, 2023 Author Posted March 14, 2023 Thank you all. This was my first attempt at weathering a body. The Tamiya weathering kits are really easy to use. I used them over the cleared body and they hold up real well and don't rub off. I highly recommend them.
