slusher Posted June 3, 2023 Posted June 3, 2023 One thing I noticed years ago was ash trays. I kept spare change in them… 2
redscampi Posted June 3, 2023 Posted June 3, 2023 Hub caps. Everything now has multiple styles of wheels from the dealer. Mass produced individualism. 1
stitchdup Posted June 3, 2023 Posted June 3, 2023 using a hammer to get a starter to turn. now the casings just split but you used to be able to batter them if the solenoid stuck and could buy just the solenoid or cap for repairs instead of a £750 part 4
Coors54 Posted June 3, 2023 Posted June 3, 2023 A jack! Runflats and tyre foam have eliminated the spare wheel so who needs to jack up a car? I do to check the brake pads....... suppose I'll just have to buy a trolley jack. 1
Tom99 Posted June 3, 2023 Posted June 3, 2023 The ignition key, all cars seem to have push button start.
atomicholiday Posted June 3, 2023 Posted June 3, 2023 Decent styling... Everything looks the same now. 8 3
peteski Posted June 3, 2023 Posted June 3, 2023 Things which have (not has) faded on modern cars: Hidden (recessed) windshield wipers (but they seem to be making a comeback on some higher end cars). Ability to drive (ore even ride as a passenger) without seat belts fastened, without constant and unbearably annoying warning sound. Thank you nanny car! Power steering so potent that you could spin the steering wheel with one finger. The biggest faded "thing" for me is the simplicity of operating the car. Now the driver is surrounded by so many distractions and "helpful" features. They do everything but wipe your butt. Way, way, way, too busy and complicated. You supposed to drive (while paying attention), not play video games!! No wonder the car demands fastening seat belts to save you from when all the distractions cause you to crash! 7
Vintage AMT Posted June 3, 2023 Posted June 3, 2023 One thing that will never go away...the NUT behind the steering wheel. 3

tbill Posted June 3, 2023 Posted June 3, 2023 Control knobs, everything is touch screen now, door lock knobs, manually operated parking brakes ( another electrical push button) , gear shift levers ( on auto trans) , manual transmission in light pick ups ( GM hasn’t had a manual trans in a 1500 series pick up since maybe 2010 or a touch earlier), cigarette lighters, ash trays, CD players, mast antennas, chrome trim, manual windows, this is what I see as a tech at a chevy dealer 1

I remember AM/FM radio, haven't used either in years...mostly listen to Sirius XM stations and stream stuff from my phone... 1

One can easily forget to turn the vehicle off and walk away but not without the vehicle sounding off a warning that your vehicle is still running. I own a Hyundai Kona with keyless push button start. I have a love / hate relation with that car.
