Cale has passed at age 84.  He was the first NASCAR cup driver I was a fan of as a kid in the early 80s.  Always liked watching him in the Hardees cars..

One of the all time greats. He wasn’t one of my favorite drivers , but his accomplishments speak for themselves. He was ferocious, Buddy Baker talked about looking over at him during caution and watching him pull up his gloves, Buddy said he’d pull them right up to his elbows, guess he meant business, wasn’t intimidated by no one.

Happens in threes? Also lost Roland "The Hawaiian" Leong on the 29th, plus Gil de Ferran.

Did not know that, thanks for sharing.

I was never a NASCAR guy, but wasn't Cale Yarborough always #21, the way Richard Petty was always #43 and Smokey Yunick was always #13? Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Bad enough learning about Cale, but this is the first I heard about Roland Leong. About three years ago, I did a “bucket list” trip from here in NJ out to Bakersfield for the Spring meet. Roland was tuning this young fella’s Mustang Nostalgia Funny Car. I walked up to him and said I wish I had his genes because it looked like he hardly aged.

Cale was #28 then #29 when I watched him.   He was #21 and #11 earlier I believe…
