Rob Hall Posted December 31, 2023 Posted December 31, 2023 (edited) Cale has passed at age 84. He was the first NASCAR cup driver I was a fan of as a kid in the early 80s. Always liked watching him in the Hardees cars.. Edited December 31, 2023 by Rob Hall
Horrorshow Posted December 31, 2023 Posted December 31, 2023 One of the all time greats. He wasn’t one of my favorite drivers , but his accomplishments speak for themselves. He was ferocious, Buddy Baker talked about looking over at him during caution and watching him pull up his gloves, Buddy said he’d pull them right up to his elbows, guess he meant business, wasn’t intimidated by no one.
ChrisBcritter Posted December 31, 2023 Posted December 31, 2023 Happens in threes? Also lost Roland "The Hawaiian" Leong on the 29th, plus Gil de Ferran. 1

Did not know that, thanks for sharing. I was never a NASCAR guy, but wasn't Cale Yarborough always #21, the way Richard Petty was always #43 and Smokey Yunick was always #13? Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
CaddyDaddy Posted December 31, 2023 Posted December 31, 2023 Bad enough learning about Cale, but this is the first I heard about Roland Leong. About three years ago, I did a “bucket list” trip from here in NJ out to Bakersfield for the Spring meet. Roland was tuning this young fella’s Mustang Nostalgia Funny Car. I walked up to him and said I wish I had his genes because it looked like he hardly aged.

Cale was #28 then #29 when I watched him. He was #21 and #11 earlier I believe… Edited December 31, 2023 by Rob Hall

BlackSheep214 Posted December 31, 2023 Posted December 31, 2023 Wow... another NASCAR legend gone. I built one of his stock car kits in my early teens
Joe Handley Posted December 31, 2023 Posted December 31, 2023 Just saw this, oddly enough, also on Elana Scherr’s IG as well.
Force Posted January 1, 2024 Posted January 1, 2024 Yes it's has been hard on the race legends lately.
Bainford Posted January 1, 2024 Posted January 1, 2024 Sad to hear. He was one of my favourite NASCAR wheel men. R.I.P. Cale.
slusher Posted January 1, 2024 Posted January 1, 2024 A true legend I remember watching. R.I.P. Cale..
