jdcar32
Another challenging build completed. Building the old tool AMT kits into something equal to the modern kits is something I enjoy. This one has had the doors opened, seats and dash detailed, and carpet flocking and mats added. AMT wipers were removed and replaced with wipers I built up with aluminum and shrink tube. Parking brake and hood release cables are guitar strings. The chassis of the AMT kit is molded one piece so it was trashed and replaced with a Revell item. Kit chrome parts are bad and needed rework and were painted with Rustoleum Bright Coat Chrome. Engine is the AMT original. Paint is Tamiya Mica Silver that represents Corvette Sebring silver. The kit grill was opened up and taillights/exhaust reworked. MCG photo etch emblems add a nice touch. Tires are Modelhaus 1" whitewalls, spinners where separated from the kit hub caps. A lot of engine details were added, the AMT kit lacks quite a bit. Shown also is a comparison photo of the 'Vette and the '63 Avanti, another fiberglass car. The Avanti wheelbase is 11" longer than the Vette. Edited February 18 by jdcar32 added content
espo
Beautiful realistic looking finishes and detailing. The longer I look at the pictures the more details you added can be seen.

Hard_2_Handle_454
If that's the AMT kit then I salute you. I got that kit years ago and it was garbage. Incredible work!

Matt Bacon
My word... spectacular! Brilliant building, painting and detailing. Mind you, that now makes me want to add an Avanti to my build list... best. M.

karbuildr
Dude...that's a killer Corvette. Super-duper paint, details, scratch building and that engine compartment is amazing. I've built two of the roadster version of this kit and it's equally as lacking as the coupe. But you knocked this outta the park.

Camaro lover
That is spectacular. I love the service sticker on the door. That’s a detail I’ve never seen on a model. So many things done just right.

Tamiya gloss black is under the Rustoleum Chrome. The best I've found, I don't have an airbrush so Alcad is not an option and the new Revell chrome paint is too much $$$ ! peteski
Superb modeling! You have an eye for all the fine details which usually gets missed, like the creases on the exhaust pipe bends, or the oil change sticker on the door, and the striker mechanism to mention just few. I also enjoyed not seeing the seam line on the transmission. You must have put some serious time building these models! Fun time! Yeah Nah
Considering you started out with the old AMT kit, your model totally shoots down the old notion of not being able to make a silk purse from a sow's ear. Museum quality without question Jon.
