kensar Posted October 17, 2024 Posted October 17, 2024 I'm starting a Revell Jaguar XKE. This new tool kit has some disappointments for me as it has a lot of sink marks to fix and a sprue was short shot, omitting one half of the engine block and another small part. Fortunately, I have a second kit but when I build it, it won't have an engine to display. I'm planning to make this one a pale yellow exterior and a brown leather-like interior. I'm not planning an extensive build log, but will post a few pictures as I progress. 9
kensar Posted October 22, 2024 Author Posted October 22, 2024 Latest update pics The wheels are from Ukrainian Scale Cars Production. Nice 3D prints. 4
jaymcminn Posted October 22, 2024 Posted October 22, 2024 Is that Primrose Yellow? One of the best E-Type colors!

You may try and contact Revell about that engine part...sometimes they may replace a defective part...I contacted Revell of Germany online for a part once...unfortunately the kit was OOP, so no parts. But they responded. Customer service varies...Atlantis was very responsive when I got the Mooneyes dragster kit with no decal sheet...they sent one right way. BTW: Those wire wheels look real nice,...they come with the kit .........or aftermarket?
Bugatti Fan Posted October 22, 2024 Posted October 22, 2024 (edited) Good model in progress here. Those 3D printed wheels of the correct width will look far better than the kit offerings. Often wondered why the E Type is referred to as an XKE in the United States. Perhaps a follow on to XK140 and XK150 I guess. Edited October 22, 2024 by Bugatti Fan 1
kensar Posted October 22, 2024 Author Posted October 22, 2024 I wanted a color like Primrose yellow, but I didn't have a matched paint color to that, so I just mixed up the color to be similar. Interior will be a leather brown. I read that Jaguar wanted this model to be a follow-on to the D type as they were getting out of racing and wanted to have a reference to their 'golden years' of successful racing, so this became the E model. I believe the 120 in XK120 is a reference to the top speed of that model. This car also had a top speed of 120 mph (barely), so they wouldn't name it an XK120 also.
Pierre Rivard Posted October 23, 2024 Posted October 23, 2024 Very nice start Ken. I built this kit as a race car and thought the kit was reasonably good (think 80% Tamiya). Definitely good enough for you to pull off a great replica. 1
Bugatti Fan Posted October 24, 2024 Posted October 24, 2024 Baffled as to why Tamiya never did one in 1/24th scale. But wouldn't Tamiya make a great job of one in 1/12th scale ! No 1/12th scale E Type from anyone as far as I know, not even from MFH. Maybe Italeri might consider one now that they are making 1/12th scale car kits.

Those wheels are superb, Ken - the kit-supplied low-profile tires simply look wrong. Primrose yellow is a good choice as analternative to the ever-present red and green (as is Opalescent Silver Blue). 1
kensar Posted October 28, 2024 Author Posted October 28, 2024 Update - engine compartment is completed. Interior is next. Thanks to all that commented and looked in on this project. 6
kensar Posted November 4, 2024 Author Posted November 4, 2024 (edited) More pics ... Thanks Trevor! Edited November 4, 2024 by kensar 11
stitchdup Posted November 4, 2024 Posted November 4, 2024 lovely work on this. the engine bay looks great and the interior looks ready to get in and drive. is that the stock interior or have you modded it? 1 1
kensar Posted November 5, 2024 Author Posted November 5, 2024 The aluminum panels on the dash and console are aluminum sheet. The switches on the dashboard and the brake handle are scratchbuilt additions. The molded-in kit details appear to be fairly complete, just not very sharp and crisp. Thanks to all that dropped by. 1
mrm Posted November 5, 2024 Posted November 5, 2024 Very sharp build. I love what you've done with the interior. 1
Zippi Posted November 5, 2024 Posted November 5, 2024 Killer looking build so far Ken. All the detail work is Boss dude. 1
kensar Posted November 22, 2024 Author Posted November 22, 2024 After many distractions and problems with paint, I have finally made some progress with this. I have the body painted and the wheels on it. I adjusted the rear ride height. After looking at numerous pictures of real XKEs with the rear ride height appearing to be all over the place, I went with this. Now there's just the outside details and some weathering left to do. 9
Pierre Rivard Posted November 22, 2024 Posted November 22, 2024 Beautiful Ken, and that color is so right for this car. The way you painted the interior really does look like brown leather. Excellent stuff! 1
espo Posted November 22, 2024 Posted November 22, 2024 Don't recall seeing your build before today. Like the clean and well detailed finishes starting from the beginning. Looking forward to following this build. 1
Bainford Posted November 23, 2024 Posted November 23, 2024 Oh yeah, that's looking good. Lovely colour for the E Type. Ride height looks perfect. 1
absmiami Posted November 23, 2024 Posted November 23, 2024 A question and a mystery - did you place spacers above the rear suspension assembly to treek the ride height ? - and it is strange that Tamiya didn’t make the E type considering the they produced the Mark II Sedan wIth a really good 6 cyl engine …. Very nice build … 1
kensar Posted November 23, 2024 Author Posted November 23, 2024 Thanks for the nice comments everyone. The chassis relative to the rear axle was lowered about 1.5mm (0.060")based on a couple of other build threads I came across, however, that was too much after I test fitted the wheels with the body on, so I adjusted the back of the wheels to raise the body up about 0.030". Consequently, the wheels are not lined up with the rear axles, but this is not noticeable. I frequently need to make last minute ride height adjustments to my models.
