slusher Posted December 21, 2024 Posted December 21, 2024 I was working an a MPC Mopar kit with no problem and then all of a sudden I got bored and started Started a new kit. This is something I don’t do, I always finis a build. I have a couple stalled waiting on parts. Does getting bored pretty normal once in a while? 1
Jim B Posted December 21, 2024 Posted December 21, 2024 I would say it's pretty normal. Who knows, lightning might strike again, and you'll go back to the other kit to finish it up. Might be next week, or it could be next year (which sounds like a long way away, but it really isn't). Don't force it. The desire will return. 1
hedotwo Posted December 21, 2024 Posted December 21, 2024 Since retiring 8 years ago my building has changed from only one on the bench to generally 3-4 now. Mostly because I have all the time in the world to work on stuff and there's always glue or paint drying on one or two, so I can just switch to another. This also keeps me from burning out on only one at a time. 4
catpack68 Posted December 21, 2024 Posted December 21, 2024 Sounds pretty normal to me! I probably have nearly 2 dozen models that are all painted and ready to put together, but I start something else every time. 1
NOBLNG Posted December 21, 2024 Posted December 21, 2024 Perfectly normal. I tend to like assembling engines and suspension parts and doing any chopping or bodywork. Then I kind of stall out and resist getting the paint phase started or completed.🥴 So I start another one. 2
Pierre Rivard Posted December 21, 2024 Posted December 21, 2024 Twice I've done side by side builds and I then realized it felt more like an assembly line than a hobby. I've since realized that the source of my boredom was working on something I already knew too well or a kit that goes together ... to easily? So my way to avoid boredom is take on kits I know nothing about and take on projects requiring some level of scratch building. 1

MeatMan Posted December 21, 2024 Posted December 21, 2024 I don't get bored as much as I do just need a fresh infusion of excitement. Or maybe they are one in the same.
bobthehobbyguy Posted December 21, 2024 Posted December 21, 2024 I think it happens to all of us at some point in time. It's a hobby and not something you have to finish by a deadline. You will get your inspiration back. 3

Engine 51 Posted December 21, 2024 Posted December 21, 2024 Not sure if I’d call it bored, but I always stall right before I have to paint the body. It can take a long time to get that part done. 2
Falcon Ranchero Posted December 21, 2024 Posted December 21, 2024 (edited) Typically I don't get bored while building a kit, it's the starting the build, I tend to stall getting all the supplies layed out and that usually defines whether or not I want to build a kit. Once I get going I usually don't stop unless I have other things to do OR because certain things don't fit right and I need to step away for a while. One time I built the '63 Nova wagon in one day, didn't get bored just kept on chuggin' along. That's why it's not the greatest build quality. I'm sure once I get older I may get bored occasionally but I know right now I follow through with a build mainly because I like to see a finished product. Never walked away because of boredom or started a different kit while still working on another. Edited December 21, 2024 by Falcon Ranchero 1
espo Posted December 21, 2024 Posted December 21, 2024 I have shared this problem as well, but it is more of a case of getting bogged down in trying to get everything the way my original idea was. Sometimes it's because the parts just don't seem to want to cooperate with my original design or the old "Squirrel" syndrome. I have tried to overcome this by limiting myself to one build at a time, otherwise I'd have a half a dozen unfinished projects scattered all over my desktop. 1

ewetwo Posted December 22, 2024 Posted December 22, 2024 (edited) I go through spells like that Carl. Once it passes. I go full blast building 3 at a time. 83 Olds I've been working on for months from time to time. Might just get put away for a while. Edited December 22, 2024 by ewetwo 1

This is something I don’t do, I always finis a build. I have a couple stalled waiting on parts. Does getting bored pretty normal once in a while? Hello Carl. This is a great question. When I first started to model, it was to get my fine motor skills back after a stroke. Built a model and found out we had a IPMS club in our area. Joined the club and had fun ever since. What happened to me was I was winning a few shows, and a club member that was the DeAgostini rep gave me a few big kits and now they give me kits all the time. Same with agora. So now I get bored with the big kits. I had them back off kits because my shed could only so many. I have a gull wing just about finished , but started on the Ferrari GTO. Which is also on hold. I have over 500 2/24-25 kits that I love to build. I have over 13 model factory kits that were given to me from Mark and Mr Hiro when he was alive. I started the 1/12 917/30, stopped on that, started the 935/78 and am just restating that project. But just recieved a 1/12 model factory hiro cobra Daytona coupe kit that might have to be built first. So I started my modeling career by building one at a time but as in life things change with the best of plans. Definitely not complaining, even happy, but things do change . Oh what also changed my modeling career was winning the special award at the IPMS nationals in Las Vegas, model companies are giving me models all the time. The kids love me at our local IPMS meetings. I’m giving away free models all the time. That’s probably the most fun. If you need more models, let me know and it will get more confusing. Merry Christmas 1
Brudda Posted December 22, 2024 Posted December 22, 2024 P. S. If your into F1 I have most of the 1/20 tamiya kits. And around 20 1/12 kits. So if you like those I can get you one of those. I just gave away a Renault 1/12 f1 kit to a friend that had his house burned down in a fire. So if your into that let me know what interest you have and I will send it 1
oldcarfan Posted December 22, 2024 Posted December 22, 2024 (edited) That's been me for most of my life. I have a touch of ADHD that likes to appear periodically. Usually about 3/4s of the way through a project I'll see a shiny object and off I'll go. Edited December 22, 2024 by oldcarfan
Mark W Posted December 22, 2024 Posted December 22, 2024 I guess bored is as good as any. I generally just slow down on a build. That’s when I switch to another build. Usually there’s about 5 going at once, cars / planes mix. It’s that a new project gives me more ambitions and I make a ton of progress, until………
bogger44 Posted December 22, 2024 Posted December 22, 2024 Sounds pretty normal to me as well, it happens from time to time. I've experienced that a bit on my current build. Had started gung ho on it at first, then lost steam for it and didn't touch it for several weeks. Just recently I have picked it back up again, plugging away bit by bit. 1

Then going back to start the rest of the build last, for this very reason you mentioned. 1
Brutalform Posted December 22, 2024 Posted December 22, 2024 Also, if I suddenly get bored with one of my dozen or so projects, I will move onto another project I normally do not build. I’ve been building a next gen nascar kit for my brother in law, and it is definitely a slump buster. I plans on doing more, actually. Ive only built one nascar car in the last 15 years or so. 1
johnyrotten Posted December 22, 2024 Posted December 22, 2024 I don't get bored, more like apprehensive on a new skill/idea. I tend to go in "research mode" until I figure out what is I'm trying to do, and get after it. That applies to most everything i do, not just model building. For me, having "too many irons on the fire" is a recipe for problems, but everyone is different. If putting one away and coming back to it later works, I say go for it. 1

I build 1/24 or 1/25 scale models.
