Revell & Atlantis at the IPMS National Convention 2025

Greetings and salutations from Hampton, Virginia. Once again you've wasted another year and it's time for Nationals again. Revell & Atlantis are once again sharing the same table space area with Revell having some test shots of two new upcoming tools and a few odds and ends at Atlantis.

First up at Revell previously announced items on the display boards.

Next up the new tool Mustang. This kit is going to come with two sets of wheels and two trunk lids which facilitate for a spoiler or spoiler delete look. Also oddly enough two lower grill surrounds so you can add/delete the front plate mount.

The other new tool on offer is the Lamborghini Reveulto. This kit continues the recent trend of Revell Germany based tools coming "factory prepped" with both LHD & RHD.

There wasn't a lot of automotive at the Atlantis booth. The featured built models were the pair of AA Fuel Dragsters, which came out last year.

Being shown for the "first" time is the old Revell 1955 Chevrolet. This is supposed to get run next month (Sept) and will come with all the stock and drag parts. I'm not familiar enough with the "classic" *cough* 55 tooling, but I think this might be the first time it's been entirely in this configuration since the 1964 boxing.

Also being shown was the chrome and new glass runner for the 1/32 '56 Buick Custom

The '55 Chevy didn't change much over the years.  The separate red taillight lenses were deleted after the first or second issue (taillights are now one piece each, all plated).  Also, the racing slicks and mag rear wheels were deleted at some point in the Seventies.  (There were never any optional front wheels.) 

The slick/mag deletion was apparently a running change.  I remember building a certain issue of the '55 and it had those wheels and slicks, but I have one of that same issue kit now and that kit doesn't have them.  Unlike the '56 and both '57 kits, the '55 never got those crummy two-piece stock tires.

The '55 has one rear inner wheel house wider than the other, something to watch for if you want wider than stock tires without trimming the wheel openings (which is absolutely necessary when using the slicks).

Too, the artwork and built '55 look like Atlantis will be including the racing tires and slicks tooled for the Keeler's Kustoms kits, and the parts pack wheel tree from same.  The stock tires they tooled for the '57 Chevies will not fit the '55 stock wheels (and probably won't fit the rear wheel tubs either).  So either there's no 100% stock version (unless you scrounge the tires) or they're tooling another set of stock tires.

Actually the entire chassis is slightly off-center so the interior/trunk floor and wheel houses needs to be trimmed slightly for better alignment and to reduce structural stress on the thin rocker panels when the body is mounted on the chassis.

On a side note, it appears that Atlantis is planning to include a plated version of the ex. Revell "Dragster Wheels" Parts Pack in the Chevy.

I don't know much about the Revell version of the 55 Chevy, I believe the exhaust is separate from the chassis as opposed to the AMT version? Which would be nice. I also think it's cool that it includes the proper scoop for earlier gasser versions finally. Though I find it interesting that a straight axle doesn't seem to be available. 

I also find it interesting in the display model that the side trim is not aligned between the door and body.

Thank you for the update.  I'll end up with a mustang, corvette and lambo probably in the end.  Although I would have preferred a higher parts count on the mustang.

Definitely the Mustang. I have been waiting for a 2024 Car to build for my Grandson. I will tell him this is what cars looked like. The year that he was born.

At least it looks like it will have separate headlight buckets and lenses, a huge improvement over the chrome “lenses” on previous versions.

The Mustang is looking good to me.  I usually don’t build 1/32, but I might have to get a Buick! Also I might be the only one here who has never bought a Jeep pickup, so that will be on the list.
