Bainford Posted August 17 Posted August 17 Cool subject! Not for beginners, me thinks. Looking forward to seeing you wrestle this one to the ground.
Zippi Posted August 17 Posted August 17 This will be a really kewl looking build. Love those Big ole fat fenders.
Pico Posted August 17 Author Posted August 17 This neat little coupe was mastered by Tapani Rauramo of Air Trax. It was built on their Fiat 508 " Ballila" spyder. Bodywork now, this will be a quickie build, maybe 2 weeks. 2
Anglia105E Posted August 17 Posted August 17 This will be a very interesting project Pico . . . The resin body kits from Air Trax in Finland are excellent, and worth the extra money to get them I think . . . David
Pico Posted August 18 Author Posted August 18 Air Trax is located in Finland. I am not aware that they did any work for RMCM. I doubt it. Work proceeds with black primer to locate low and high spots. 3

The only one I remember Juha doing for RMCM 20-25 years ago was a cool custom "new edge" style '46 Ford coupe that RMCM sold for a number of years. Have one in the stash to build "someday". Rik Hoving (from the Netherlands) did a lot of masters for RMCM. 1
peteski Posted Tuesday at 04:12 PM Posted Tuesday at 04:12 PM Wow! I thought Air Trax resin moldings were better quality. That body was rather rough, but you sure did an excellent job smoothing it out. I'm curious how you will deal with the panel lines on the doors, etc. They look like they have been haphazardly chiseled with a hobby knife. Personally I don't see myself spending this kind of money on a kit which needs so much work to make it presentable. But we all have different skill sets and are willing to accept different types of challenges. My comfort zone is more with something like the kits Paul Hettick makes. While they are also resin cast from a hand-built master pattern, they are close in quality to what an injection molded kit would look like.
NOBLNG Posted Tuesday at 08:27 PM Posted Tuesday at 08:27 PM I agree, that is a rough looking casting. Good work so far. It is certainly a cool little car and a worthy subject.👍
beeRS Posted yesterday at 09:55 AM Posted yesterday at 09:55 AM Great subject and you are making good progress with the body. I have had several Airtrax bodies over the years. The skill level required varies considerably from one to the next. Some have required intensive work, whilst others have been a pure joy to behold.
