Sledsel Posted Thursday at 06:56 PM Posted Thursday at 06:56 PM (edited) I have been on a few FB pages for builders and have deleted just about all of them. People ask advise and get smart a** comments, new or novice builders get their builds nit picked apart, disrespect towards fellow builders for using the wrong paint or new builders that may not have honed in their skills yet, ect ect. There was very little encouragement. I have never seen anything like that on this forum, seems everyone is encouraged and given accolades for what they have accomplished. It seems on this forum we are all builders doing our best and trying to get better. That being said, I have seen it here and done it myself. When something is wrong, installed incorrect or can be done different or easier, it is pointed out as an FYI for everyone to learn from, not as an insult to a build. Sometimes you do not know, the instructions are not clear or trying something for the first time. Been there myself. To all the respectful members of this page, thank you. LDO Posted Thursday at 07:27 PM Posted Thursday at 07:27 PM IMHO, Facebook is a cesspool. Its only redeeming feature the groups. I’m the admin on one. It had been a cesspool of of stupid, pointless videos and I cleaned it up. Facebook is now ruining groups with dumb posts from AI bots. As if all the other clickbait garbage and weren’t enough. 7 1
Brutalform Posted Friday at 02:05 AM Posted Friday at 02:05 AM I was absent from Facebook for years. Then I decided to get back on it, pretty much for the model pages on it. Now I’m off again, pretty much because of the model pages on it. A person on FB asked why his Krylon paint was giving him fits, and I suggested using paint formulated for styrene. And you’d swear I killed someone’s first born child! Yea. Life is too short for that stuff. This community is by far the best thing I’ve ever had the opportunity to be part of. Some pretty intelligent members on here that are always glad to help when you run into a build or paint problem while building your next show car. 6

I have always found modelcarsmag.com and Britmodeller.com to be the two friendliest, most well-behaved, tolerant and civilized scale modeling sites to share builds, tips and encouragement. I re-joined FB a few years ago to communicate with fellow members of a local scale modeling club I joined. The FB page for my local club was fine and reflected the great bunch of guys in our club but I found the other "feed" that the FB algorithm directed at me to be total garbage. I couldn't believe the BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH that showed up in my unsolicited feed (and the FB utility for blocking inappropriate content is totally useless). Edited Friday at 02:21 AM by papajohn97 3
iamsuperdan Posted Friday at 04:59 PM Posted Friday at 04:59 PM I agree, this is a "nice" community. People sometimes gripe about our language rules, and our rules about politics or religion or other taboo subjects. Well, this thread is why we have those rules in place. It's proof that our masterplan is working. There's enough negativity and BS out there, especially online, and we want this little corner of the internet to be a refuge from all of that. Let's all relax and talk about our hobby and share photos and stories and just enjoy the moment. Thanks. 14
Pierre Rivard Posted Friday at 09:18 PM Posted Friday at 09:18 PM I too am very thankful for this forum. We share our build experiences and learn cool stuff from each other. No personnal attacks, no nitpicking, no politics and no algorithm force fed garbage we get from Facebook. You have passion for scale modelling and want to be part of a supporting community? MCM is the place to be! 5
Bruce Scully Posted Friday at 10:08 PM Posted Friday at 10:08 PM I enjoy this site , the people on here are helpful and respectful to all class of builders. 3

Andy I agree, and it's funny you mention about a part being installed incorrectly, today I realized on my Datsun, I have the taillights mounted wrong, aka on the the wrong sides. (Note to self the next one I build like it, will install the lights correctly) I like having a place to discuss, models, paints, display options, WiP, completed, and even our IRL Car/truck projects. Plus we have our "gripe" post too! Edited Saturday at 12:19 AM by meechum68 2
bogger44 Posted Saturday at 01:01 AM Posted Saturday at 01:01 AM I've heard enough horror stories about FB that I'm continually glad I'm not on it. Actually, I'm probably one of the like couple dozen people on Earth that have never joined that cesspool. This forum has always been great, and full of talented and friendly modelers always willing to help or give knowledgeable advise. 6

FoMoCo66 Posted Saturday at 02:25 AM Posted Saturday at 02:25 AM This site is one of the best out there, everyone comes from all sorts of model car genres and complements each other, doesn't matter the genre. This place is also always a great place to learn without getting bashed for asking, you ask it, someone knows it, they tell ya, and no negative criticism! Ive learned many a things from here and have been guided through every question. I credit most of the skills, tips, and tricks I know to all the members of this forum. I think I speak for everyone when I sincerely say, THANK YOU! 4
Trainwreck Posted Saturday at 03:03 AM Posted Saturday at 03:03 AM It's always a plus when likeminded random folks come together and admire the work of others without all the dogma, that's why I'm here. 4

But I respect the rights of those who do indulge. I'm "old school" enough, I still prefer to talk "face-to-face" when possible, and (as a matter of choice) use the phone to talk on, rather than text..... Just me, and NOT a criticism of those who are not still living in the dinosaur age... 😉 But back to the subject: Please add my name to the list of those who are thankful for this forum. DJ 2
fredo84 Posted Saturday at 06:56 AM Posted Saturday at 06:56 AM I don't go on FB ... But I'm following this Forum for about 10 years or so . It's the only one model kit forum I visit every day The people here are nice, pasionate and very talented ! I just should contribute more 😁 2
Roger U Posted Saturday at 07:00 AM Posted Saturday at 07:00 AM This is a great forum. I've gotten questions answered and a lot of helpful information from the people on this forum. Thanks everyone. 2
bobss396 Posted Saturday at 12:30 PM Posted Saturday at 12:30 PM I'm back on FB after a 6 year long break. Mainly for model stuff. I pretty much lurk or say very little. Here is MUCH better. The skill levels have a wide range for sure, but everyone is respectful and willing to help those in need. 4

I have for over fifty years, now. Yet, those knuckleheads act like we don't know how to build. Yeah, there's a lot of chaff, there. 5

With a little care, great paint jobs can be done with anything. The keyboard warriors are quick to join in the blind rhetoric on any modeling facet. 3

89AKurt Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago Since I'm a Gemini, my persona here is always giving the benefit of the doubt more than one time, and I'm always telling myself to find a model thread and encourage the person, not just say the headlights are not lined up perfectly. Just like at contests, everyone knows this is a hobby and not a job (a few exceptions of course). It helps to be an adult too. Fakebook is another story for me. 🤐 Any group takes on the character of the Admin team. I saw one group that intentionally encouraged dishing on people, so I avoided them. Now I'm sick of all the A.I. "nature" shots, and reading people say they been there. Having (things not allowed on this forum) pushed into my face is also wasting my time.
slusher Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago We have a great forum and great members I have been here a while.". 1
1972coronet Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago This forum is the best , hands down. I don't see much slagging going on here ( disagreements, sure ) , at least as of recent. Certainly , not any ad hominem attacks - the worst kind around. I'm glad that the mod's keep a close watch around here... Speaking of which ; the faux pas comment I'd made a few weeks ago put me in check. And I'm 100% okay with that.
Lunajammer Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago (edited) This forum is largely the reason I'm still modeling. This is pretty much a solitary hobby and being able to show like-minded people what I'm doing and what I've done motivates me to keep coming back to projects. It's also an invaluable car modeling reference desk. This forum hasn't always been drama free but thanks to the fair, tough love of our moderators, it's a casual hobby home.
