RancheroSteve Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 After way too long on the bench, this one's finally done. Built using a partially complete Mooneyes dragster from the double kit, plus parts from the Attempt I, Tony Nancy double kit, parts pack Chevy engine, some aftermarket items and a few scratchbuilt pieces and details. A big thanks to Mercman (Jr. Berg), who years ago ('03 to be exact) sent me the decals I needed. Does he hang out here? It's not perfect by any means, but it's done! Thanks for looking - comments, questions, and critiques welcome.
Dr. Cranky Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 Nice model. I've always loved MOONEYES!
Bernard Kron Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 Very nicely turned out. I like all the nicely picked out parts, the fuel and ignition lines, the parachute pull, etc. It complements the detail that, even back then, Revell put into their kits and gives the build a modern flavor that suits it!
bobthehobbyguy Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 Very nice model. Two questions what paint did you use and where did you get the front axle? bobthehobbyguy
Nitrozilla Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 That's a great build Steve. Detail throughout and not cluttered. They were simple back in the day, that's what makes them fun, no matter how long it takes.
RancheroSteve Posted September 20, 2011 Author Posted September 20, 2011 Two questions what paint did you use and where did you get the front axle? The paint is Testor's enamel - just some mix until it looked about right. Front axle and spindles are from the Tony Nancy kit - both the axles in the Mooneyes kit and the Attempt I kit are too narrow.
W-409 Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 It looks very good. I like the Mooneyes Dragster in 1:1 too. This build is great, paintjob is really nice, and I like the detailing. Rear tires are looking realistic. Nothing wrong with it, maybe front wheels aren't perfect, but aftermarket ones are so expensive, that using those from the kit isn't a crime.
High octane Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 That's a really nice job on that Mooneyes dragster and it would be great if it were re-issued.
gasser59 Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 That's perfect!! My all time favorite vintage dragster. I just need to build up one of these beauties and can only hope it measures up to yours. Thanks for sharing.
bsoder Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 I was just watching the NHRA drags (on TV!) yesterday and this really reminds me how far these have advanced through the yrs.....great job man

crazyjim Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 Nice. I traded that body and frame off to somebody not realizing what it was.
Dave42 Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 Super looking dragster! I really like the extra details, and the headers are one of my favorite parts. Beautiful addition to any collection. Nice work. Later, Dave
