Chuck Most Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 The last issue of the Vampire van had different slicks anyway- I think it had the wide Goodyears, not sure if they were the hollow once-piece or the thick two-piece units, though.
kitswapper Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 The Slicks in the Barnabas van are new and not the hollow wide MPC Goodyears from the last issue, I think my flash when I took the picture earlier I posted made both sets of slicks look bad, sorry about that, but it is nice to see that they are doing new tooling on things.
jbwelda Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 i kinda like those slicks from the Gremlin...can someone tell me the appropriateness of either them and/or the M&H with the "pie crust" tread on the sidewall? as i remember the pie crust looking ones were on real cars (but i could just be remembering that from AMT kits in the early sixties) but maybe not those in the Gremlin? or are the gremlin ones more appropriate for later cars (like early 70 vs the pie crust being more like early 60s)? i am interested in this for reasons having to do with an upcoming project by the way, so thanks for all the help i may get!

"Pie crust" slicks would be correct for a early to mid 60's dragster, by the late 60's early 70's the wrinkle wall slicks had become the norm.
scaleautobuilder Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 I just got mine today, I did notice that the chassis is warped, did anyone else have this issue?? Bruce
kitswapper Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 Yeah my Chassis was warped a tad but putting in hot water fixed.
Edsel-Dan Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 Are the Stock tires G70's?? Also, are they the Old AMT ones or the slightly larger MPC's?? I would think F series rubber would be more correct on this small a car.
Tonioseven Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 I had an '81 Chevette so I'd love to see one reissued. I plan on 2 Gremlins. I'd LOVE to have an early pinto without paying $75 bucks for one. I almost had a Pacer a month or so back but I got sniped during the last 45 seconds and my computer froze up.
Missing in Action Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 I looked at Bob Downies Gremlin....I can't wait to get at least 6 of them!!!!! No disapointments with it, To Me!!!!!
Dr. Cranky Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 My copy of the kit has arrived. THANK YOU, MODELROUNDUP! It's time to start having fun.
Joe Handley Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 Mine's in at work, just got to wait a couple days to buy it.
Gregg Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 Everyone with the warped chassis, please email me photos. Thanks
kitswapper Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 Sorry Gregg I already straightened it with hot water and a brick
kitswapper Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 (edited) Here's some Gremlin Pro Stock shots for you guy Photos by Bob Snyder Edited January 12, 2012 by kitswapper
Chuck Most Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 Not as cool as the AMC-logo pants some of the race team guys had!
Dr. Cranky Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 LOL, yes, race fashion has come a long ways!
Erik Smith Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 Chassis warp - sounds like this will be present in a lot of the kits? Here is a photo: It is on a completely flat ceramic tile - you can see the frame rail on the passenger side is just about touching the tile - while on the driver's side, it is elevated a couple mm. Top of the frame at 12mm: Top on passenger side, 8mm: Not a huge deal for some, could be a pain for beginners or folks unfamiliar with the kit.
Dr. Cranky Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 A hot water bath and a little twistin' will fix it.
Dave Van Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 That's not warping......that's a result of the massive torque that little 304 puts out!
Erik Smith Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 Ya call THAT a warp? Warp? Yes. Bad warp? No. It will be easy to overcome. I had heard about the problem so I looked closely at mine and this is what I found. I probably wouldn't have mentioned it had it not been brought up previously. The rest of the kit looks great. There is some excess chrome in the stock wheels that will result in stripping and application of Alclad II, but otherwise looks great.
mikemodeler Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 Casey, I think I know where those photos were shot...Is that just outside the city limits of Kenosha, Wisconsin, the late home of AMC? Those are some nice inspiration pix, I might build mine like a former co-worker had his-258 L6 with a lowered chassis and wide flares and L-60 tires.
Rob Hall Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 (edited) A 6 would be nice for a build..any out there in resin? I can't think right off of a kit that might have one appropriate for that vintage...maybe a Jeep kit? Or a rare Johan Rambler? And is it me, or do the kit's stock wheels seem rather deep? Edited January 12, 2012 by Rob Hall
Erik Smith Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 And is it me, or do the kit's stock wheels seem rather deep? They are deeper than stock - I like them that way, but looking at pictures of the real deal, yes, they are too deep.
