Also, the past tense of "sink" is "sank." Not "sunk." Saw it misused not just once but twice in subtitles for a major motion picture the other night (Midway). :angry::angry:

But the guy playing the game never said: "You sank my battleship..."

In six and a half decades, I've never heard the past tense of the verb "cost" as anything other than "cost." In the last 24 hours, I've encountered a new word, "costed," three times--once on TV and twice in one edition of a new magazine.

Also getting tired of hearing about "unchartered" territory, waters, etc. The word is uncharted, folks. :angry:

Also, the past tense of "sink" is "sank." Not "sunk." Saw it misused not just once but twice in subtitles for a major motion picture the other night (Midway). :angry::angry:

"Exponentially" seems to be the new "literally." When you hear it, it's just used for the sake of using a big word, and doesn't mean that at all. (And there's a prominent political person who uses it frequently, and cannot even pronounce it, saying "expodentially," which I don't believe is even an actual word.) :angry::angry::angry:

costed is the right word in some situations. for example, i costed up the project.

and from the dictionary

verb (used without object), cost·ed or cost; cost·ing.

to estimate or determine costs, as of manufacturing something.

Actions of a local body shop that transcend incompetence and constitute intentional fraud.

Photographs of a vehicle taken immediately after the collision clearly show the damage from every angle, but my inspection of the vehicle on the body shop premises after teardown shows considerable additional structural damage that was absolutely impossible to have occurred with the bumper cover in place.

Looks like they picked the wrong guy, my client, to try to cheat.

This is a well known chain, who are DRPs for several insurance companies.

In the first place, I've rarely seen such a bungled initial estimate (for instance, they added time on the R&R of the radiator for "automatic transmission cooler", when the car is a manual) and the added "supplement" is curiously consistent with additional structural damage that, again, simply could NOT have occurred with the bumper cover in place. Looks like some mouth breather drove the car into a post or bollard AFTER the bumper cover was removed, probably while looking at his phone, and the damage was added to the estimate in an effort to cover it up.

Unfortunately for them, the supplement caused the car to "total". It's an older sports car my friend bought new, the value bottomed out, now it's become desirable and is appreciating, he loves it, and brought me in to negotiate a way to save it from the scrapper. And guess what I found...

Sad week!  We put NNL East to rest for this year, and several other shows packed it in as well. Just when you thought it was bleak, Kalmbach said, “Hold my beer!” and cancelled Scale Auto!

Ive spent time on the phone this week cancelling NNL stuff and taking care of details.  The PAL hall cancelled us and we went over our contract for April 2021. I opened up our hotel block for April so people can roll over instead of cancelling.. those with reservations should get a call.  It was sad undoing everything for the second time!

The dishwasher we bought a month ago was a scheduled for delivery.. they called and said it never came in so they had no idea why it was scheduled.. so we are washing dishes by hand.

But on the good side, everyone was great to deal with regarding NNL. (Except for the two loonies who called us mask wearing sheeple). Not a single vendor wanted a refund, all rolling their payments for April.

And the job I was supposed to start in March called asking if I’d be interested in starting on August 3rd!  Life is a roller coaster!

You are correct, but it was being used as, "It costed $57 in 1961."

Another one that irks me...  people who write 57$ instead of the proper $57.

You’ve only seen it the proper way for your entire life!

My pet hate is when something is described as 'Very unique' - it either is unique or it is not. And when someone says 'Those are unique'. Unique means there is only one of them, if there is more than one it might be rare but can't by definition be unique.

Good for you! We could be friends. B)

Kinda like the word "justice." Putting any adjective in front of it other than maybe "swift" or "equal" makes it something less than justice--i.e., not justice at all.

"Justice", or "just us"?

Ok, if we are holding a classroom session on proper spelling, and pronunciation,I would just like to throw my 2 cents in.This always annoys me..Is it proper to say hung or hanged?Hung is the past tense of to hang when it means “to suspend or be suspended.” Hanged is the past tense of to hang when it means “to kill someone by tying a rope attached from above and removing the support from beneath. And as far as SAE stopping their publication,if you ask me,that’s pretty depressing.Yes,it’s great to have this website. You can obtain more information on (auto)model building, than any magazine, but it’s still a great publication that I look forward to buying every month or two.But there are much more important issues going on right now, than model building. Its a hobby,a relaxing hobby, yes, but still a hobby.I Hope I didn’t make any mistakes in my reply,lol?P.S.Sorry,but I’ve always found Fine Scale Modeler magazine to be a bit boring.?I hope they add more auto building issues.Welp that’s all I gotta say ya all...Oh and Tom,everything went well with the new roof.No major damage. Thanks for the tips.

Along the same line, I can't be the only one who's tired of seeing posts and articles written by people who are seemingly incapable of pluralizing a noun without using an apostrophe.  I have no doubt the internet helped spread this idiocy, but it still comes down to dimwits and the poorly educated perpetuating it.

I've also seen a number of instances where the writer used apostrophes to pluralize certain words while using the correct way on others.  I'd love to see the flow chart that helped them make that decision.

Should be 109 here today with 19 percent humidity.

You see that I can deal with,ok heat, but low humidity.I know you probably heard this a million times, that it’s dry heat that you guys have out in AZ..Here,Its the NY humidity that really bothers me.Ah but my brother is in Orlando,so it’s got to be pretty bad down there too,(Humidity) wise.I’m ready for the fall, but we have a long way too go,and a lot more hot and humid ???days ahead.I think i would like living in AZ.I always wanted to see the desert.Again, ride a quad or a bike wide open just about anywhere you want. Not here in Long Island NY.There's virtually no place except upstate to go riding. But I still go riding when I can in the woods near my house.??
