curt raitz Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 Start with the Atlantis repop of the Merit/Smer kit of the 1949 Lago-Talbot in 1/24th scale, add a few home made wire wheels, R&MofM Big'n'Little Dunlop tires, extra detailing and decals...you end up with a model of the car which won the 1949 Belgian Grand Prix. thanx for lookin'...
Harry P. Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 That's cool! Very nice wheels. Can you explain how you made them?
sjordan2 Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 Excellent, and I, too, would like to know about the wheels. What brand and color of paint did you use?
Bernard Kron Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 One of the first models I ever built, as a Merit kit. I remember it because it was the first time I ever did paint detailing, with the steering wheel rim and upholstery finished in tan and silver paint on the steering wheel spokes and wheels. It may not seem like much, but it's a big deal when you're just starting out. Under the skilled hands of a contemporary modeler these kits respond beautifully to some upgrading. I may not be up to doing the wheels as yet but I definitely will remember the tires. Looking forward to seeing it on Feb. Ist... She's a beauty!
cobraman Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 Very nice model. I started the same one but stopped when I realized how very bad the wheels were in the kit. I have since ordered and received some PE wires but have not yet returned to the kit. I hope mine will be even half as nice as yours.
RancheroSteve Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 Really excellent, Curt! This is one you don't see every day. I'd like to see Atlantis re-pop some more of these kits - the originals are just way too pricey.
curt raitz Posted January 10, 2014 Author Posted January 10, 2014 That's cool! Very nice wheels. Can you explain how you made them? thanx, I used the same process as i did for the Alfa Romeo 159 in the following post: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=81345&hl= Excellent, and I, too, would like to know about the wheels. What brand and color of paint did you use? thanx, I used Tamiya's French Blue TS-10

Prince Ital Mike Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 Always nice for me to see one of these legendary czech kits finished, and your's is just awesome! And your wheels are amazing!
Dave B Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 Nice build Curt. I have yet to rebuild my original Merit version but will use Herb Deeks photo etched wires. I have used them on my Lancia Ferrari & Alfetta 158. Dave B
Ace-Garageguy Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 Though it's a simple kit, it's always been one of my favorites. You've done a very nice detail-up rework of it.
