Well, now that it’s over, I’ll talk….

Dad had been diagnosed as a teen with a heart murmur and his old, country doctor at the time couldn’t find a surgeon in Iowa at the time that felt could fix it and after a couple years, he retired and then passed away. Over the next 60+ years, nobody else seemed to find it until this past September when he underwent tests at the local hospital, where the machine he had to get into found a bad valve that needed replacement.
Tuesday, Dad went into the local hospital that found it and the doctors there put in a new valve, going in through the arteries in his legs to to do so.  The surgery was successful and though they thought he was going to need a pacemaker, as of right now, he does not! He was released from the Hospital Wednesday afternoon and had a visit from my Sister, her Husband and my now 3.5 y/o niece after my Sister was off work.  He will need to wear a monitor for the next month to make things continue to go well, but it’s done, he’s home and now needs to recover. I’ve taken the week off to help out too.

My procedure went well and I'm home resting.

I don't think I mentioned it around here much. But 3 years ago I had brain surgery. 8 hour procedure to remove a golfball-sized acoustic neuroma. translabyrinthine surgery. Was in hospital for a week, then two months off work for recovery and physio.

Every 6 months since, I get an MRI done. Well, last September, the MRI turned up something. The remnants of my AN had grown slightly, so something needed to be done. Had a couple of consults with the neurosurgeon, and the end result was that yesterday I went in had had the Gamma Knife procedure done. Bolted my head into a metal frame, MRI done, consult and math between two teams in two hospitals, then the gamma knife. Home by supper. Now resting for a couple of days and back to work on Monday. Feeling tired (but not sleepy) and have a sore head, mainly from the screws. All normal side effects.

Another MRI booked for next September.

Thanks, he seems to be doing better today and this seems to have started reversing some numbness in his feet too!

That’s great to hear, glad he’s on the recovery road! Especially losing some of the numbness.

After almost 44 years of working as a parts counterman at a Cadillac dealership I retired today. Hard to believe the time had finally come.

The reason I was pleased happened at an event I wish had not happened . My BIL had his funeral service today . Because he was a Marine in Vietnam he had a Marine honor guard and another Marine play Taps . I’m not ashamed to say it really moved me and brought more than a tear to my eye . These Marines did a wonderful job and I had never experienced that before .

I'm bionic.  Hospital had a cancellation so I was able to slide in and get a pavemaker installed today.  Looks like it'll be several weeks before getting back to the bench.

Welcome to the Borg collective. Resistance is futile.

I don't know what the Borg collective is Dave.

Ah, you must not be a Start Trek - Next Generation fan. The Borg (short for cyborg) are a mixed biological/machine species that's also a fearsome, intractable enemy. When they encounter a new sentient species, they assimilate them into a highly connected collective. Sort of like teenagers on social media without the need for smartphones. Their signature concept is "Resistance (to assimilation) is futile.

Here's the executive summary:

As some of you know I live on an island group in the north of scotland. Because of this theres a lot of nature i have only seen on tv. Well today I saw a real squirrel and a fox for the first time. I've also seen something thats a bit unusual regarding the magpie bird family. In edinburgh they are attacking parked electric cars, particarly tesla and porsches. I dont know why they are doing this but the non electric cars are being left alone. Maybe the cars are putting out a pitch of noise we cant hear but whatever the reason they absolutely hate electric cars. I dont see them attacking power lines so i dont think its the electric part, maybe something in the security system is affecting them would be my best guess as both these cars have proximity sensors.

Spring finally showed up this weekend. It normally makes an appearance in mid February. The BBQ roared to life and we now have a lot of leftover meat. Our resident psychic sees tacos in our future.
