bobthehobbyguy Posted June 25, 2024 Posted June 25, 2024 Got my 6week followup visit for my pacemaker. Everything is great. Next monitoring session is in 3 months however I will be doing it from home. The pacemaker has a relay which transmits the data using a cellar connection. Will be getting the followup visit for the hernia surgery this week. I'm so grateful that all has gone so well and that I've got great insurance. I pay Medicare and have plan F that covers what Medicare doesn't. It's not cheap but I'm not wracking up huge medical debt. Things continue to get better. I try to improve myself everyday. 6
Rodent Posted June 26, 2024 Posted June 26, 2024 It has been kind of warm here, but we have been getting some tropical moisture today and a little cooling. Went for a walk after work, and I am still grateful to be able to walk 15 minutes and see this. Been in this house 31 years and have taken many walks to this area. It is always different, but always amazing. 8

A modeler named mike Posted June 26, 2024 Posted June 26, 2024 1.)The possibility of rain this evening, even if it's forecasted to be a severe storm. It's still wet and we need it. 2.) Looks like I've beaten the poison ivy.. ?Just in case. 3.) Slowly, accomplishing much needed yardwork, repairs or whatever that was put on hold for one an a half years while caring for my Dad.. 4
89AKurt Posted June 26, 2024 Posted June 26, 2024 You could say I'm a happy camper. Only I haven't left home. ? The tarp set-up took some refining, lucky to have tools and a shop. Last trip to Home DeepHole, my primary item to find was not successful, then I thought while wandering around aimlessly, "what are you doing? Hello, you have a shop!" Designed angle iron into cord rigging, while walking around. Then I saw the window tape, and what do you know, just for pickup camper shells. My dad had one on a '72 Dodge pickup. It rained a little, found the front needed more tarp, once that was moved forward another 2 inches, golden. Broke down this morning, made several connectors, a 'Vans' shoe box holds everything except tools. Feels good. The 'analog dynamic stability' is 92 pounds of weight in back (instead of sandbags). Will take out for camping trip. Very pleased today. It's been like building a full scale model. ? Now what I going to do? 6
John M. Posted June 27, 2024 Posted June 27, 2024 I got my school bus card in the mail this morning from my state's DMV. Without it, I can't earn a paycheck. I'm ready for another year. 1
slusher Posted June 28, 2024 Posted June 28, 2024 I am spending time in the model room again but going slow I am getting tired easily.. 2

bobthehobbyguy Posted July 3, 2024 Posted July 3, 2024 Yesterday afire started here in Oreville. At this point I'm under evacuation warning and my sister is under evacuation order. Car is packed up and ready to go if I need to bug out. I hope and pray all goes well today. I hope and pray all of the brave firefighters are safe fighting the first and there are no fatalities for any people living in the area. Possessions can be replaced however people can't be. Gotta say this has been quite a year. Hopefully today will turn out well. I made it through my health issues and hopefully I will have a positive outcome with the fire situation. 1 1
Ace-Garageguy Posted July 4, 2024 Posted July 4, 2024 Went for a hike in a national park I haven't visited in a few years. Went today instead of tomorrow or over the weekend to avoid crowds. It's adjacent to a fast-moving stream/river that dumps into the Chattahoochee, it's some really beautiful woods with Civil War-era ruins, but it's changed in a lot of ways...not all good, and we won't dwell on that. It's a very rocky several miles of hiking trails with a lot more elevation changes than I've been doing recently, and it was pretty hard on my hips and lower back early on. After a while though, everything started feeling much better, kinda like squirting WD-40 on rusty hinges and working them until they stop squeaking and operate smoothly. Right now I feel great, and the longer I live, the more I'm convinced that people allow themselves to get old and creaky through lack of effort, and that even after injuries or illness, it's possible to recover and maintain a pretty youthful level of ability if you work through the pain, and let your body know it's not time yet to lie down and give up. 7
bobthehobbyguy Posted July 5, 2024 Posted July 5, 2024 My sister and husband came home today as their evacuation order was lifted. I'm also off evacuation warning. 4
John M. Posted July 5, 2024 Posted July 5, 2024 I took a head count of my entire model car collection including the promos and the number now stands at 131. I never thought that I'd acquire that many. However, on the positive side, I have well over 80% of the cars and trucks that I've wanted over the years. I have no room left to display more. Time to give the plastic a rest.

I'm close but than R2 comes out with another kit..

Every time I think I'm done, somebody on here builds something I didn't know existed, or I get an idea for using parts from a kit I already have on something else, so I HAVE to buy more. It's a drug, man. 2 1

iamsuperdan Posted July 10, 2024 Posted July 10, 2024 This starts as an irk, but overall, is a positive. Things just work out sometimes. So my boy is 19, and has been driving my '99 Tahoe for a couple of years now. He needed something reliable to get back and forth to college, get to work, etc; so the Tahoe basically became his. Well, typical teenager in his own world, he neglected to mention a few things when I took it to do an oil change last week. Like how the instrument cluster doesn't work. How long has this been going on? "I don't know, a month or so maybe?" Plus when I drove it to the shop, it seemed sluggish and the trans wasn't shifting. Oh great. So I'm expecting bad things, like needing a transmission replacement. Turns out, a new ignition switch fixed literally all of the cluster and transmission issues. However, the inspection the shop did found that the front and rear brakes are finished, and that most of the front end needs replacing. Plus one O2 sensor is faulty. And I need to replace some body parts from when he tagged a parkade wall in the winter. And it is developing a little rust in the usual areas. All told, looking at some big repair bills. The shop quoted $4k CDN for the suspension and brakes. Yeah, no. Cue the positives now. However, we just took in a pretty sweet trade on a new Explorer. And after checking it out and discussing with our GSM, I bought it for $750 CDN. 2004 Lincoln Aviator Ultimate. Pearl white, grey leather, heated/vented seats, moonroof, rear buckets, 4.6L V8, basically everything but navigation. Higher km, but we have every service record since day 1, and it is very well maintained. Everything works, no leaks, no weird noises, no weird smells, no accidents, no rust. Recent service included brakes and some suspension bushings, plus every fluid front to back. Interior is pretty much mint. Has a couple of scratches, but nothing major. Previous owner was OCD about maintenance, which I appreciate! I just need to put a windshield in it. And probably a new head unit with bluetooth. So the boy will drive that while I slowly tackle the Tahoe. Body work and brakes I can do. Will get a shop to handle the front end. Even with doing a lot of it myself, the repairs will still be 3X the cost of the Lincoln! Here's a couple of pics, in "as traded" condition. I'll be detailing it this weekend. Currently 35 degrees Celcius though, so I'm not going to spend much time working outdoors this week! 3
espo Posted July 10, 2024 Posted July 10, 2024 Great find. I snagged a few trade ins when I was in the business. Hard to find one this well cared for.
Ace-Garageguy Posted July 11, 2024 Posted July 11, 2024 Heat index was under 100 F today for the first time in a while (about 38 C), so working in the un-airconditioned shops was a little more pleasant than it's been lately. Low tonight will be 69 F. Positively chilly. Windows are open, exhaust fan is on, and it's already quite nice in here though it's still 77 F outside. I'll sleep like a stone.

iamsuperdan Posted July 11, 2024 Posted July 11, 2024 Got into my truck last night at the end of the day...was reading 40 degrees C. In the shade. That's 104 F. Thank goodness for AC. Both in the vehicles and in the home. Hands down the best upgrade we've done to our house. The weather gurus are saying rain this evening, so that should cool things down nicely.

They seem to deal with it just fine...the way people would if they behaved as rationally as cats. They're active in the cooler hours, find shady places to sleep through the hottest hours, drink a lot of water, and eat less. 1
