Ace-Garageguy Posted November 10, 2024 Posted November 10, 2024 Cold wet day, and as I accomplished a lot last week, I'm taking it off. Might even sit down at the model bench for a few minutes later. In the meantime, the elk meat a coworker gave me is simmering in a big pot of chili while I watch old movies. Life's pretty OK today. 5
TonyK Posted November 10, 2024 Posted November 10, 2024 Had elk steak back in the 70's and liked it but never in chili. Had deer stew and liked that. I suppose elk meat in chili would give it a little different flavor?

This batch is pretty good, but a little one-dimensional. The flavoring needs some tinkering. Cumin, definitely, more garlic, and something to add a little sweetness. 89AKurt Posted November 10, 2024 Posted November 10, 2024 I'm pleased to say I got on my bench last week, but not for car models. Restored 5 rockets that I built last century (1976 seems like history LOL), the rubber shock cords are sewing elastic. Found drawings of designs, glad to say there are X-15 and Sidewinder models now so I don't have to scratch build them. One design is a LSR car, so that will be moved to the front burner. The V-2, dad took me to Penrose, CO, to the Estes factory in 1976, paint based on a magazine article, someday I should go to White Sands and send it! Made a stand from a scavenged light mount, can put at several places in the house. I designed these. Last 2 days have been very calm, hope tomorrow is. 4

And the FPP '58 Ferrari Ghia 410 on the shelf has me off on another rabbit-hole quest... It just never stops. Edited November 10, 2024 by Ace-Garageguy 1

rattle can man Posted November 12, 2024 Posted November 12, 2024 brown sugar in the chili. and if you only have habanero, you need a few other peppers for some depth. When I make it for me (she can't take the heat) I use ghost or scorpion pepper, habanero, jalapeno, de-arbol, Aleppo or Turkish red pepper, N.M. chili, and cayenne. And if I feel like it, maybe some hot sauce. 1
iamsuperdan Posted November 15, 2024 Posted November 15, 2024 I just noticed that this "What please me" thread is near the top of page 1. While the "What irked me" thread is all the way back on page 2. Could it be? Could people currently be happier than annoyed? Did I just jinx it? ? 3
iamsuperdan Posted November 15, 2024 Posted November 15, 2024 As has been discussed here, Tamiya spray paints have been banned for the foreseeable future here in Canada. I've taken this as my sign that I need to dive into the world of airbrushing. So I now have an airbrush with compressor and all the trimmings. 3

I am, but if I said why, ya'll'd have to time-out me again. PS: I also had a remarkably easy time at the DMV, getting two vehicles that have been off the road for years...one for just shy of two decades...back in the system and all tagged and spiffy and legal. Not so much that I wanted to, but had to, to be in "compliance" with county regs concerning vehicles on my property. Still, as the state I'm moving to requires clean paperwork on vehicles transferring into their system (no matter the age) it's a good thing. TonyK Posted November 15, 2024 Posted November 15, 2024 I was at the DMV yesterday and it went well. Of course it helped that I had an appointment at 9:10 am. Line out the door, people waiting and I heard it would be 1 hour or more for them to be called to the counter. Got my drivers license renewed and don't have to go back for 8 years! 2
oldnslow Posted November 16, 2024 Posted November 16, 2024 Weather back down in the 70s during the day and 60s at night . 2
JollySipper Posted November 16, 2024 Posted November 16, 2024 The full Supermoon we're having was pretty spectacular last night.......... Had perfectly clear skies to see it. 2
stavanzer Posted November 18, 2024 Posted November 18, 2024 Finally got the correct prescription for my glasses, after having had cataract surgery. I can see to drive again!! Also, my mother gave me my Grandmothers car to drive. My mom has been driving the car, for the last few years since Grandma passed, but I needed wheels, and it runs and drives very well. It is a 1987 Toyota Camry, with 108 thousand miles on it. For 37 year old car, it is in great shape. It is literally the "Little Old Lady from West Covina" Car. It is the same car pictured in both the Pic and the article. All I need to find now are a set of factory LE Wiremesh cast aluminum wheels for it. Mine has the wheel covers as shown, and I want to upgrade the rims. I'm very happy to be driving again after 3 years of Eye Problems and Surgeries. The Freedom to drive again, has cured much of my depression. I'm feeling much better emotionally, and while still searching for a job,, at least I can get to interviews on time without begging rides or using Bus Routes. I turned down job interviews, because it was just too difficult to go to the interview or plan on how to get to work, if I got the job. P.S. if anybody has a line on some Camry Rims, I'll be happy to follow leads on getting a set of them. So, things are looking up. Lastly, my 15 year-old grandson, was in his first (but not his last) High School Play. Kid went out on stage, and killed it! I am so proud of him! He did not talk about doing something, he did it! Way to go! https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/a15142192/1987-toyota-camry-archived-instrumented-tes 3

I have been through much of the same issues as you and it is frustrating. As for your wheels for your Toyota, maybe looking around any "Pick in Pull" type auto recyclers in your area could be one place to look. Check the diameter of your bolt circle on the wheels and with that you may be able to find another style that you like if the original wheels can't be found. 1

iamsuperdan Posted November 19, 2024 Posted November 19, 2024 Just got back from a few days in Whitehorse, in the Yukon Territories. Was up there to host an open house at our dealer partner. Plus attend the 2024 Geosciences tradeshow & forum. So yeah, a work trip, but when the views are so nice it doesn't always seem like work. Sun doesn't come up until 10am or so. This pic was taken at 9:45 Sunday morning. And this was out at Miles Canyon, around 1 in the afternoon. Sun stays low in the sky all day. Got a little hiking in. And then for the open house, this was at our dealer. Again, about 9:30 am on Saturday. Still dark. 7

JollySipper Posted November 19, 2024 Posted November 19, 2024 Just finished another endurance race on my driving sim/game........... 1000km of Suzuka Circuit! I averaged about a minute-54 on most laps, with my best time being 1:52.020. Over five-and-a-half hours of driving......... 2
rattle can man Posted November 20, 2024 Posted November 20, 2024 Free at last! cleared to drive and do light stuff as I get the shoulder back up to strength and range of motion. Time to sneak up on longer work bench sessions, with more than one arm. 1
HomerS Posted November 20, 2024 Posted November 20, 2024 LOCKLAND, Ohio — your tax dollars at work! A Lockland man accused of painting potholes in his neighborhood to warn drivers was found not guilty after a jury trial on Tuesday. Gregory Strole, a 66-year-old retired volunteer Lockland firefighter, was charged with criminal mischief after allegedly spray painting potholes to warn drivers. Lockland fire chief and village administrator Doug Wehmeyer said Strole had been doing the same thing for years and that the most recent incident was the final straw for city officials. Wehmeyer said the case escalating to a jury trial was Strole's idea. On Tuesday, jurors found Strole not guilty of criminal mischief after deliberating for much of the afternoon. There was no debate in the courtroom over whether or not Strole painted the potholes. Rather, both sides argued the purpose behind it. The prosecution argued that Strole knowingly broke the law and did not follow proper procedure. The defense argued that Strole was doing his civic duty and tried to warn other drivers. Strole took the stand in the trial on Tuesday, telling the eight-member jury that he wanted to help drivers avoid costly repairs. Police chief Michael Ott also took the stand and said some of the potholes in question had been fixed, but not all of them (almost year later). After the trial ended, Strole spoke with WLWT about how he was feeling once the verdict was read. "I feel great that maybe they'll learn something from this," Strole said. "Maybe they'll take it and do what they're supposed to. Then they wouldn't have to spend all this money bringing me to trial." 5
