Don Sikora II Posted October 19, 2014 Posted October 19, 2014 These are nice!! I too love to restore old builds!! Some are glue bombs and some are nice but old builds. Here is a AMT 59 Thunderbird. Before: After: AMT 64 Thunderbird Promo. Before: After: Johan 69 Javelin: Before: ebay pic of what I started with. After: Man, great stuff! That's probably the nicest build I've ever seen of a Jo-Han Javelin.
charliechaindrive Posted October 19, 2014 Posted October 19, 2014 Very nice saves, here is my most recent. That is stunning...
W-409 Posted October 19, 2014 Posted October 19, 2014 I also enjoy rebuilding old Glue Bombs especially if it's a rare kit. I have many of those restorations in progress, but here are three that I have finished. '69 Chevy Camaro Gumball Rally. This was bought as a Glue Bomb where the paint had been stripped off so many times that the body cracked very easily and required lots and lots of Bondo and sanding. After some other modifications it ended up being completely Black Road Racer. Then this is a '70 Dodge Super Bee that I got for free a couple of years ago. It was a great starting point for a build as almost all of the parts were there and only some minor parts had to be found from parts boxes. I built it as Factory Stock. And this is my most recent Glue Bomb rebuild, Jo-Han '71 Plymouth Barracuda Pro Stock. Almost all of the parts were there, too, but I did some modifications to the kit. For example I added proper front axle parts to replace the metal axle, scratchbuilt a new fuel system etc.
StangLover92 Posted October 25, 2014 Posted October 25, 2014 Wow! Those are some nice saves! Wanna buy another one? I have an old screwbottom BULLITT Mustang That I don't have the skills to save.

StevenGuthmiller Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 Nice save Mike! Looks like the previous owner glued it together with a caulking gun!! Steve

If that was for me, Thanks! Uh I guess I have enough glue bombs on my own right now. Finishing all of them will take probably a couple of decades.
slusher Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 I've began taking before & after pics of my restos also. It is nice to give people an indication of what you started with. I just started doing this recently, & I usually don't bother unless the before shot looks pretty rough. This is one of the few that I have. Although, this one actually was in pretty nice shape. Steve I'm still working on this one. She's not done yet, but pretty close. Excellent results from your glue bombs Steve and Ron....

Greg Pugh Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 Very nice saves, here is my most recent. Can we see some more of this? Please?
Grumpa Posted October 28, 2014 Posted October 28, 2014 (edited) OK....not in as bad a shape as some of the ones featured so far, but a resurection just the same. Built-up "SMP" '59 Impala with a bit of body damage. Luckily the builder chose not to paint it. Probably the hardest part was restoring the windshield, but thanks to NOVUS.....what a great product! Grumpa Posted October 28, 2014 Posted October 28, 2014 Very nice saves, here is my most recent. Killer "Tail Dragger" James! Awesome fade job on the paint, and the color.......cool, very cool!
Jantrix Posted October 28, 2014 Posted October 28, 2014 (edited) The closest thing I have is a repaint on a fifteen year old build up. Before: a nasty enamel in Boyd's Teal Green After : two tone Duplicolor lacquers and clear. Edited October 28, 2014 by Jantrix
Lordmodelbuilder Posted October 28, 2014 Posted October 28, 2014 I love to rebuild old builtup / gluebombs. Here's a few pics of some I have saved.
Foxer Posted October 28, 2014 Posted October 28, 2014 Some great saves here! have a '61 Valiant that I got cheap becaus eI always loved the design of this car. I built one when they first came out at about 14 years old. This one was a mess, to say the least. I think every optional part was massed on it in tube glue. It's at a point I could primer the body but is still in the works ..
Guest Posted October 28, 2014 Posted October 28, 2014 This is one of my earliest restorations. Not the first. But, it's the one that got me hooked on doing them. What couldn't be sourced from the parts box was scratchbuilt. Most of the parts in this photo got used. Some didn't make the cut. After If I can't score another MPC '28 Model A RPU, I plan on giving this one another restoration sometime.
Bob Ellis Posted October 28, 2014 Posted October 28, 2014 2 comments; Wow that '59 Impala looks great. To me, a simple SMP kit can look as good as a new Revell when detailed well. That Valiant, what a save. It's interesting how builders back in the '60s felt obligated to use every single custom part in the box. I am surprised that one came back to life. A lot of work.

I believe that some of the kids felt if you have glue left you had to glue something else on the car.
