  1. This is an ambitious project I started a few months back. It has been on the back burner because my basement is a bit cold to work in. This is the inspiration for the build: And this is where I am: Using AMT 53 Ford cabs, Lindberg F-150 chassis, bed, and engine. Wheels are Aoshima and the tires are from a company in Ukraine. Having trouble getting the bow out of the roof. I have tried adding sheet plastic in layers, but it still sinks in the middle. I think I may cut it out just above the window openings and try adding the roof from an UltraNomad kit (if I can find the roof).
  2. Beautiful restoration and the yellow makes it look so much more refined than the usual red.
  3. Absolutely amazing build, especially in such a small scale. Looking forward to the finished diorama.
  4. Just throwing this out for consideration. Would the clear packaging materials used for food containers work? Are they stiff enough for this project? I quite often buy salad greens (lettuces, etc.) is a clear plastic container which should supply sufficient material for the glass needed.
  5. Always enjoy someone using their imagination to build something out of the ordinary. Your work is right on target. You mentioned an in-line 6, what chassis and other drivetrain are you using?
  6. My first car was a '56 Chevy 210, 6-hole three on the tree. I like the direction you are going with this build. Haven't tried but one weathered build and it came out fairly close to what I was after. As the others have said, approach with caution, because it is easy to go overboard. Keep the updates coming, looking forward to how this one comes out.
  7. Now that is an awesome comparison. About the only thing restorable on that original car is the driver's door handle and the VIN plate. The 'restored' version is a beautiful piece of work.
  8. Looking like a pretty healthy Gasser to me. Especially like that decal in the rear window. You have done some excellent work with this build.
  9. Unfortunately, this is one area where it is not advisable to skimp on tape. Tamiya tape is undoubtedly the best on the market to prevent bleeding. That being said, although it may be too late at this point, is to spray the area along the edge of the tape with clear, or if doing a two tone spray another light coat of the first color along the tape edge. That seals the edge of the tape and helps prevent bleed through. Nice looking build, Sox & Martin were, and still are, my favorite all-time drag team.
  10. I know this is an "irk" post, but when I went to the mirror resurfacing website I saw this statement, "The actual silver part is a thin layer of elemental silver, which is what causes your mirror to reflect properly! When this wears down, your mirror won't reflect as well as it used to." Now I know this happens because I have a couple of older mirrors. However what struck me was the idea of some Hollyweird superstar looking into their mirror and deciding they have looked at their beauty so much it wore out their mirror.
  11. The Revell Jeff Gordon Championship car appears to have fairly straight slabsides. This kit:
  12. Very nice conversion/scratchbuilding.
  13. You can also go to https://www.acme.com/licensemaker/ and make your own specialized plates. All you have to do is reduce it to size, print on an index card or regular paper, and cut it out. Use some Elmer's type glue and attach it to the license plate area on your model.
  14. Very nice work on both builds. Those are the style cars I used to watch race when I was in my teens - many years ago. One thing that has always bothered me about that style modified is the flat sheetmetal hood. I can just see one car rear-ending another, the one in front climbing up over the front bumper of the rear one and turning that hood into a guillotine. But they ran them like that for many years and I do not remember ever hearing of a decapitation of a race driver.
  15. If you want to go 2 bbl I would think it should be fairly simple to modify a 3X2 manifold to work in that situation. Just a bit of filler and some sanding should do the trick. Or you could possibly pull an I-6 out of one of the Chevy II or mid 60"s Chevy trucks and modify it to work. A man with your talent and building expertise shouldn't have much trouble with either option.
  16. I was on the wrong side of the world looking for this one. It has some similarities to 60's Datsun products.
  17. Always been a fan of Red Farmer and that Ford is very well built. Only got to see him race once. There was a big 300 lap race at Hickory, NC in the summer of '68; he was there along with Donnie Allison, and Bobby Isaacs. All the locals were also present, Jack Ingram, Ned Setzer, Roy Trantham. It was a really great race.
  18. Mighty fine Jay, really like the concept look.
  19. Looks to be a really nice AWB. Really like the looks of that engine and those wheels/tires are amazing. Bring on some more updates.
  20. https://i.imgur.com/LFK6cgX.jpg?1 Sure would be nice to find some of these, especially the 58 Ford Convertible and the 58(?) Pontiac.
  21. Similar incident. While stationed in Thailand I spent several hours in our sound room hobby shop cassette taping music. Had four cases 24 each of BASF (primo at the time) 90 minute tapes. Sent them to my wife. In the meantime she was enjoying the affections of someone else and they recorded over some of them and the others just disappeared. When I got back home I found maybe a dozen tapes. Still have them and many of them still play.
  22. Thanks for all the options to buy one of these. Need to see if I have a space to put one on the shelf of "to be builts".
  23. Thanks for the responses. Now, is it still available and where might I find one?
