StevenGuthmiller Posted February 6, 2020 Posted February 6, 2020 I want one! Unfortunately, the Mazda Miata with the classic Corvette styling was only available in Japan, and all 50 examples sold in 4 months! Steve
Dave Ambrose Posted February 6, 2020 Posted February 6, 2020 Wouldn’t that make a very nice sports car? It’s too bad they can’t make a whole bunch of those for the US market?

Russell C Posted February 6, 2020 Posted February 6, 2020 That's ...... interesting. It's like it's there, but not quite there.

Now I finally have an idea for a couple of those Palmers that I've had floating around my junk box for years! If it took them 4 months to sell just 50 - they'd go broke trying to sell an annual run of them. Oh how I miss the days when aesthetics and proportions were considered when designing a car. Bill Mitchell, oh how we need you today!

That was in Japan only. I'll bet they'd sell a boat load of them in the US. Personally, I think it looks pretty nice. At least it doesn't look like your average "super car" today with enough useless "gingerbread" to cover a large Victorian house. and a price tag to match. stitchdup Posted February 6, 2020 Posted February 6, 2020 Its pretty cool I think, much better than the nissan micra done up as a mk2 jag
Bucky Posted February 6, 2020 Posted February 6, 2020 I like it better than the Opel GT. I had always heard them called 'baby Vette'. This car looks more Vette-like, to me.
StevenGuthmiller Posted February 6, 2020 Author Posted February 6, 2020 Let's just say that it looks every bit as good as all of the other "retro" styled vehicles to come out in the past 20 years. At least it does in my opinion. I'll bet if Chevy would have done it first, everyone would think it was the greatest thing since sliced bread. Steve
Mark Posted February 6, 2020 Posted February 6, 2020 The body sides look nothing like the Corvette they are attempting to copy...wheel openings are the wrong shape, and the sides lack the sharp crease that goes all the way around the 'Vette. If they had gotten those elements right, it would look a lot better.
iamsuperdan Posted February 6, 2020 Posted February 6, 2020 Everyone: the Tesla Cybertruck is the ugliest ever Mitsuoka: Hold my beer.. Sorry, I don't think that works at all. Like most kit cars or re imaginings, the proportions just don't work in my eyes.
Snake45 Posted February 6, 2020 Posted February 6, 2020 First thing it reminded me of was the Mako Shark I. If they'd knock all the tacky gingerbread off it, it would be a darn sharp looking little car. Better than that Pontiac/Saturn thing of a decade or so ago.

Like the Mustangs, Challengers and Camaros of recent years, it's just supposed to be a "salute" to the original styling. Steve

I think we're looking at it through the "lens" of the original '63-'67 Corvette, and expecting it to be a "copy". I'll guarantee you that this car would sell like hot cakes to the younger crowd in the states! Especially at around $40,000.00 versus $60,000.00 and up for a Corvette. Steve
robertw Posted February 6, 2020 Posted February 6, 2020 That front double chin look prevents me from giving it an OK. Not that I'm excited about the slab side look or the overly large rocker panels.
Daddyfink Posted February 6, 2020 Posted February 6, 2020 The Japanese do like to have fun with their cars!
Rob Hall Posted February 6, 2020 Posted February 6, 2020 (edited) Mitsuoka has a history of taking ordinary modern cars and applying vintage styling cues...like the Viewt, it was a Nissan Micra restyled with some elements of '60s Jaguar sedans. https://www.mitsuoka-motor.com/global/lineup/ Edited February 6, 2020 by Rob Hall
Fat Brian Posted February 6, 2020 Posted February 6, 2020 That isn't the worst thing to happen to a Miata. The round headlights are a bit out of place, I wish they'd have integrated them in to the front under a clear lens like the racing vettes.
