Aired 13.11.1971 ( 49 years ago already ?!? ) https://archive.org/details/DUEL71ABCTV Internet Archive is a great place. Did they cut out the start of that movie when it was aired on TV? I recorded that film in the 80's on VHS, I still have it, and the beginning starts off with him backing out of his driveway as he's listening to the radio, it slowly progresses through the city then to where I see it start on the upload in the link. Bugatti Fan
The original movie 'Day of the Jackal' that was produced in the 60's. Starring James Fox and based on Frederick Forsythe's novel about a professional British assassin hired to kill President De Gaulle. it really kept to the book storyline and was an excellent movie! There was another movie named 'Jackal' I think, that was loosely (and I mean loosely) based on the plot but in a different era. Americanised, and starring Bruce Willis. Unfortunately. many will have only seen this version and not the original.

That (awesome) opening vignette is from the 1972 theatrical release . Scenes which were added for the theatrical release (from memory) : - Backing-out of the garage ( that house was up for sale recently , by the way . It's in Los Angeles' Los Feliz District ) - Travelling-up Broadway in Downtown L.A. - Travelling-up the Pasadena Freeway ( then , state route 11 ; it's the oldest highway in Los Angeles ) - Travelling-up the Golden State Freeway - Interchange to State Route 14 ( in the background , one can briefly see the demolished section of the "fly-over" ramp which collapsed during the 1971 Sylmar Earthquake ) - Added internal-dialogue ( including colourful-for-the-time words ) - Stalled-out school bus - Pushed-toward freight train The additional scenes required not only another Plymouth Valiant (a 1972 model) , but a new tractor-trailer as well , as both were destroyed in the original filming . It's alleged that Speilberg "rented" the 1972 Valiant , then returned it in less-than-decent condition ( haha ) . The '72 is distinguishable from the 1970-come-1971 model : - Newly-designed side marker lamps - Fixed radio antenna - Bright door edge guards - Different shoulder restraints The cars all had 1971-only , Plymouth-only Deluxe Wheel Covers ; and all were 'Rallye Red' (likely painted post-facto , as red sedans were unusual during that era) . doorsovdoon
ah, I didn't know that, it makes sense now. Thinking back to when the movie was shown again here around the early 2000's on digital TV, the part with the school bus was cut out, I thought it was the broadcaster being over PC. Lizard Racing
There are a LOT of tremendous movies listed. My all-time favouritest movie is Mr. Roberts with Henry Fonda and James Cagney. I have all the parts memorized, seen the movie dozens of times, saw the live play and acted in parts of it myself. As to car racing movies I think Rush is probably the best overall (another Ron Howard classic). Le Mans is the best racing movie (made by a racer for racers). Grand Prix brought the genre out of the B-movie world.
NYLIBUD
There are so many movies I could list..Animal House was the funniest, until I saw,Adam Sandler in “That’s My Boy.“Yes it was dumb, but hilarious,IMO.But as far as my favorite movies, that would have to be “The God Father”(one, and two),Definitely a masterpiece of film making...”The Shining”is up there on my list too. Anything with Al Pacino or Robert DeNiro Heat Kill Bill one,and two. Reservoir Dogs Jackie Brown Scarface A friend of mine painted this black and white picture of Michael Corleone. Bugatti Fan
I stand corrected Snake. Yes it was the Day of the Jackal from 1973 and yes it was Edward Fox His daughter Amelia plays a lead role in a UK TV series named 'Silent Witness' where she plays the part of Dr. Alexander, a Home Office Pathologist. Thanks for pointing out my errors. The original DOTJ is a brilliant film. I take it you have watched it.

Mickey Rourke plays a private investigator, Lisa Bonet a voodoo priestess, and Robert DeNiro the devil. It's kind of a weird psychological horror flick. I wasn't impressed personally.
