David G.
Good color choice! You could call it "Hayes" Grey! Not only do Haze Grey and Light Ghost Grey look similar, they're also close to the primer grey that's already on the car. In any case, it's a great looking model. David G. Not only is this an amazing build so far but I was looking at hinging my trunk lid on my latest build and had forgotten how to do it so this was a good refresher. The work on that grille is off the charts! Thanx Joe! I did a mini tutorial on a trunk hinge in my '69 Impala SS 427 convertible WIP thread that shows exactly how I make them.

Hayes Grey… that’s awesome David! I think you need to roll with that Roger. And not that I think for a moment you need advice on colour choices, but I think pearl clear over it will look wicked. Then it truly would be Hayes Grey! No matter your choice, it will look killer. Cheers, Steve
Plowboy
Thanx for the feedback guys, I appreciate it! First squirts of paint! The headliner is painted with Dupli Color Bahama Blue. Still needs Tamiya Flat sprayed on. I couldn't wait to see what the Haze Grey was going to look like. So, I sprayed some on the underside of the hood and trunk over barely dry primer. I'll sand and shoot them over later. I really like the shade of it! Not sure if I'll spray clear pearl over it or not. I know there will be those that say, "it looks like primer". But, it's quite different and has a very slight tinge of blue to it. You can see the difference in this photo. I'm thinking I'll paint the chassis and drivetrain with the Bahama Blue also. It'll make a nice contrast under the hood and against the floorpan. I'm going to hit the wheels with Satin Clear to see what they'll look like. If I don't like it, I'll paint them with Mica Silver and highlight the openings and rims with a Molotow pen like I did on my '69 Firebird.

Plowboy
Thanx guys! I finally got the old Galaxie in color! I'm thinking I'll just shoot three coats of clear over it and polish it out. I thought about shooting pearl over it. But, I think I'll like it better with just a solid color. The rear window section was a major pain to mask. Luckily, I got no overspray on the inside. While it's drying, I can concentrate on getting the rest of it in primer and paint. I've decided to paint the frame with Semi Gloss Black. Not sure on the engine and transmission. I may just paint it aluminum.
David G.
I think that color combination will look great. Gray has always been a favorite color of mine and it seems to be severely underrepresented in the automotive world. David G.
Plowboy
Thanx David! My wife doesn’t like like the "new" gray. She says it looks like primer. But, I like the way it looks on newer cars and trucks. I've been wanting to try it for a while and thought it would suit this model. I have the clear all sprayed and sanded ready to polish. I also got the wheels painted. I tried satin clear first. That wasn't it. Then I tried the Ghost Grey. That wasn't it either. Then I tried Gun Metal. That was what I was looking for! When I get the knock offs installed on them, I think they'll really pop! I couldn't wait to see what they would look like together with the body. So, I did another quick mockup. I think it's gonna be pretty sharp once it all comes together.

Yeah, I think TS-11 Maroon or TS-33 Dull Red would work nice with it.

Zippi
This build is looking so kewl. I like the gray or "primer" as your better half calls it. The stance looks killer and I really like the wheels and tires.
TooOld
The Gun Metal on the wheels works perfectly with the Gray paint on the body , gonna be nice !
Plowboy
Thanx for the feedback guys, I appreciate it! I'm still slowly pushing this one along. Very little time at the bench lately. But, I am making some progress. I have the floorpan, frame and most of the suspension in paint. Topside is also in paint. I decided to paint the trunkpan the same color as the interior. All of the interior with exception of the dash is ready to assemble. I'm doing something different with the underhood area. The plan is to leave the inner wheel wells gray. I also have the core support painted gray. Not sure if it will stay that way or not. I want to see what the engine looks like in it. I think it will give the underhood area a modern look. If I don't like it, I can paint it in Satin Black.

Steve H
Hi Roger, great to see you back. This is going to be another one of your delicious colour combos, you have a really good eye for colour. Is it the photo, or do those wheels have a hint of bronze in them? Looks great. Cheers, Steve
