Cell phone cameras...what do you use & why?

Recommended Posts

I just got an iPhone 13 Pro - T-Mobile had a good deal on them.  I like the Pro model because it has three lenses, including one for close-up macro type shots.  Seems to work great for me!

My wife’s Canon SLR camera still has it beat on about every level, but it’s amazing how good phone cameras are now…

If you prefer Android phones, I've got a Samsung S22+. Still learning how to take pics with it. I paid retail back in the spring but they're on sale now. Best cell phone I've ever owned. Takes terrific low light pics.

For an Android, this has a great camera!!!

I'd read enough about the S22 line that I wanted one. Got it in May and it's the best cell phone I've owned. Granted, I was using Tracfone junk, but when we decided to take the plunge, the S22 was at the top of most reviews I'd read. In addition,  many of them said the 22+ was the same as the Ultra, minus one camera lens. The S23 will be released soon. You could wait for it or get a S22 at a discount. I'm retired and have no affiliation with Samsung.

I use an iPhone SE (2020 version).   It takes great pics and I like the small size of the phone. Downsize is the battery life is poor (as has had every iPhone I've had going back to 2008).     Probably will upgrade to an iPhone 14 next year, but I really don't like the larger sized phones.

I have an iPhone 11 Pro Max 256GB and my Dad just replaced his 6 with a 14 Pro Max 256GB, both have phenomenal cameras and I have used mine to take pictures of my models and R/C stuff as well as video of the R/Cs over the last 2 years  and have no complaints. Dad loves how his pictures turn out, He's mostly used it while babysitting my niece (his grand daughter), but also took those pics that I posted about a month ago of the Kitten that decided to see what he was up to over in the Cat thread.  One thing I did with mine and then he followed suit on is to not get one from a cell carrier store. I got mine through Best Buy and he went through one of the Apple Stores, the advantage of that is that you can get one set up for your cell service provider (Verizon, in our case),  but also not have all of the bloatware that comes with a phone purchased through one of their stores or websites, There some features I had on the Galaxies that proceeded my phone that were never used by me (I had Sprint with my S2, then switched to Verizon for my S5), but couldn't be removed without rooting or jailbreaking the phone,  just blocked, and with these, we don't even have such programs on the phones.

Most model photographers suffer more from proper light control, perspective and composition than they do from lack of good equipment. Any of the modern cell phone cameras are quite good. And that said My A20 was sufficient, now my S22 beyond what is really needed. But the S22 with 3 lenses is handy for most all my photo needs. I don't even use my Nikon D SLRs any more, the cell phone is sharper, has more dynamic range, is better in low light and has more resolution, plus fits in a pocket. It's nuts !!

But good photography has always been up to the photographer and still is. Learn to properly compose.
