Another 1/20 Ebbro off the bench.  This is their first attempt at F-1 and for the most part they didn't disappoint. Built mostly box stock with many added details.  Color is Tamiya TS8 red, TS-26 white. The gold is out of one of those gold paint markers. I disassembled two markers and dumped the paint out then airbrushed it on..  Out of all the gold paint I have  this is the one that suited me best.  Clear coat is something called  ":Looks Like Glass"   It is a water base clear similar to future but heavier bodied.  I did this so the solvents wouldn't eat into the gold and spoil it.   More comments under the pictures. Thanks for looking. DSC07997.JPG.d99c4d636a79d20613c44b7ccb0075ce.JPG

Front suspension was very delicate but if you take you time and follow the instruction order it goes together and works quite well.   Inboard disc brakes and torsion bar suspension were Lotus innovations and a first for an F-1 car.  Ebbro replicated these quite well.

The engine recieved quite a bit of extra detailing in the form of wires, fuel lines and electrical.  I changed the way I did the fuel injector lines. It was easier and looked more to scale.  Not my first Ford DFV 1/20 engine.

Finished car here. The striking red/white and gold livery is most evident here. This required 4 steps and several days watching paint  cure. Kit provided decals for the white and gold but I opted to paint  which was also an option on the decal sheet. DSC08002.JPG.3fc2429d0e7fad7a4990e8fdafe57a1b.JPG

Business end of the car. Rear suspension was also delicate but it all fit. Lotus mounted the oil tank, oil cooler and battery on the transmission of the 49C and carried it over to the 72. This put more weight on the rear wheels. The mid mounted radiators also did the same for the balance of the car.  Once developed this car was the top of the field. Jochen Rindt won four straight races with it. DSC08005.JPG.3cd0e3b8aa9dde3f1991c4743f94cac6.JPG

Sise veiw and someone didn't quite get that number on straight.  Its fixable but the camera never lies.

Ebbro proved decals for these fasteners but I went with some very tiny jewelers screws.  This wasn't for looks as these are functional and necessary. The cockpit cowling woujld not stay in its lugs without them. Gluing and clamping didn't make it. My only really peeve about this kit was the fit of the cowling.  Either the chassis assembled warped or the cowling was. These were a real pain and I had to use the very smallest screwdriver I had.  But they do the job.

Another beautiful build from your most productive "factory"

Paint looks beautiful but certainly was most challenging...especially white over red plastic body.

Always a pleasure to view your builds and frequently they are of cars I want to model some day. Keep'em coming sir!

Thank you Pierre.  Tamiya fine white primer and the airbrush solved that problem.  I like your builds too and that is because we have a similar taste. More to come.

Excellent model of one of my F1 favorites, Rich - Jochen Rindt sparked the motorsport enthusiasm here in Austria.

A shame that Ebbro omitted the "Gold Leaf" letters from the decal sheet (tobacco !) so I had to  buy them from another source. I will tackle this one and the 49, 33 and 25 may be  in retirement next year.

Until then I have to train my skills with easier kits - you are raising the bar very high!

Jochen Rindt ranked right up there with the likes of Jimmy Clark and Bruce Mclaren. Tremendous talent  all cut way too short.  There are two Lotus 49's  on the workbench right now. Both are 49C but I am modifying one back to the original 49.  Ebbro makes an original kit but it is way too expensive, so I got decals from Indycals. Even better I received period photos from a friend who was there in 1967-68.  I cvan tell you from a modelers point of view, that I am having a blast and building like crazy since I retired.  I hope you will too.

Another awesome Lotus icon. Beautiful work, Rich. Nice detailing. You've done a fantastic job. Can't wait to see your Lotus 49 builds.

Trevor....thank you for the compliments and encouragement.  Those two are on the bench now and about 80% complete. So look for them soon.  Doing this build I am amazed at how many small changes were made to the Lotus 49 between seasons.  I have corrected the most obvious ones but because the way the kits were molded I had to let some of the (not so noticable ones) go. The project goes well other wise.

Stunning! Absolutely stunning! You give credit to the little screws, but I give credit to you and your skills. I wasn't losing sleep over the placement of said components for balance, but thanks for the info. That's got to have a place of honor in your collection. Thanks for Posting!

good tip on the clear coat - gotta check it out

always liked the first livery on the 72's ...

Thanks Andy....I always use a waterbase clear over silvers and golds. It keeps thier color. This is a new one. Been on a Lotus kick lately...that should please you.

Thanks...always been a big fan of jewelers screws. Collect them out of cell phones watches and electronics whenever I can.  Yah...this one ranks right up there.
