Empathy and sympathy have checked out of this society a long time ago. There are still a lot of nice people out there, but we have become overrun by the louts.

There may be more truth to this statement than we realize. I saw a story several days ago that Europe is trying to flex its muscles and regulate what constitutes acceptable speech. In turn this affects what can and cannot be on the internet. Many will say what does this have to do with the U.S., but having been a former regulator, I can tell you a lot. Many companies create their business practices to adhere to their strictest regulator. By doing this, they stay out of trouble with the jurisdictions that have looser regulatory environments. This works well in most cases, but not when it comes to individual rights where a country such as the U.S. has broad free speech and free press rights and Europe largely does not recognize these rights. Yes, Facebook is a private company and they can set their rules in a way that they want. But when other countries or groups of countries begin to try and stifle our Constitutional rights by regulating what constitutes acceptable speech, it becomes a big deal.

My wife was shopping at Wal Mart a few weeks ago and received quite an education from one of the employees. My wife asked for help finding an item. She walked through the aisles with the employee and there was an old shoe on the floor. An aisle over was its match. The employee said that a new pair of shoes walked out of the store. The employee then said a common problem they are now dealing with is someone will cut the UPC code off of an inexpensive item and attach it to a higher dollar item and then pay through the self check line. It is amazing the lengths some people with go to cheat or steal.

What I do is paint the wheel white. Then I paint it black. Then take an xacto knife and lightly scrape the black paint of until you get to the white. Use a very shallow angle with the knife. When you have scraped off the black leaving the white ring in the wheel, use a yellow or red Sharpie and color over the white stripe. Below is an example
