  1. Thanks! I guess I have been pretty lucky in finding some things here and there. I haven't been to a kit show in a while, and with all the show cancellations, my wallet is catching a break! ?
  2. The plain jane version is a kit vendors table warmer, but, the original MPC 4X4 version I think would be a better seller. As a gag, for some time now, we kept throwing this kit into our Model Club auction. Someone would buy it, then bring it back to be resold again. I ended up giving it a good home in the end.
  3. Originally it was a kit by IMC, 1973, and from what I read it was pulled from the shelves due to mother complaining about the sexuality it implied! Then it was re-issued by Testors as the Barris Supervan in 1977, based on the 1976 movie "Supervan" that is currently available on Amazon Video
  4. I will be perfectly happy if they only issue a Drag version! ?
  5. I actually watched the movie that this kit is based on last night. Yeah, total 70's flashback! I have the kit, and maybe I should build it someday.
  6. I am just pointing out that perhaps someone with more knowledge of contest could write an article, and the bio I posted of the man is to just show what his background is. And yes, there are plenty of folks who enter a contest to hopefully win something, or there just wouldn't be any contest, just NNL type events. And there is room for both. Some egos in this hobby can be quite huge, but for those that only like to just show their work, most shows have Display only tables, or just get to an NNL
  7. LOL! Luckily new decals and chrome, gold, stripping would help!
  8. I don't know how many times I passed on the "Pro/Street" cars on the vendors tables when I should have been snapping them up! Thanks for the memory refresh, Casey!
  9. I currently do not have that kit in my collection, and I am OK with that!
  10. This is very cool! But I think you need to build a bookend for this van ?
  11. Very nice build of one of my all time favorite cars!
  12. This is your writer.... John Gilbert SENIOR EDITOR, HOT ROD Email John Gilbert was born in Los Angeles, California, and grew up in the San Gabriel Valley deeply immersed in the SoCal car culture. Throughout grammar and junior high school John was constantly in trouble for drawing flames on his schoolwork, and automobile-related incidents during high school. Graduating mid-term from West Covina High School, John opened a custom paint shop and established lifelong friendships with the editors of the magazines his customizing work appeared in. In 1999, John was commissioned by Easyriders Inc. to create a custom truck lifestyle magazine in the spirit of Easyriders Magazine. John titled the hard-core truck rag Tailgate, marking the beginnings of his career as a magazine editor. Citing creative differences, John resigned from Tailgate in 2004 and went to work for Hot Rod Bikes, followed by the editorship of Custom Classic Trucks. In late 2009, John resigned from Custom Classic Trucks expressing a desire to goof off, and freelanced as the editor of the once-a-year American Truck magazine. During the course of his career, John’s work has appeared in Street Rodder, Classic Trucks, Rod & Custom, Chevy High Performance, Muscle Car Review, Hot Rod, Easyriders, Biker, In the Wind, Tattoo, Road Iron, V-Twin, Hot Rod’s Bikeworks, Hot Bike, Street Chopper, Ol' Skool Rodz, Custom Classic Trucks, Chevelle, Highbeams, Truckin’, Mini-Truckin’, Super Chevy, Hot Rod Bikes, Sport Truck, Vette, Classic Truck Trends, Air Brush Art & Action, Juxtapoz, Muscle Mustangs & Fast Fords, Mustang Monthly, Bikernet, American Hard Assets, Street Trucks, American Rodder, VQ, West Coast Eastwood, and National Geographic. Currently, John is a senior editor for HOT ROD. His photographic images have appeared on over 275 magazine covers.
  13. So, why doesn't someone here write an article for Hot Rod about model car contest? No? Nobody? This may not be the best article on the subject of Model Contest, but they guy wrote it and sent it in. So, until a different voice comes along, this is it.
  14. Actually want to build it as the box art. And no, not all Gassers had straight axles up front!
  15. Hobby Lobby in San Diego area are open again! Nothing new on the shelves, but still plenty of supplies!
  16. Wow, has it really been three years since the last issue?
  17. Apparently the John F. Kennedy molds where also scrapped after apparently "Damage" was found on them. But honestly, who would buy one now? Just like quite a few of the missing molds, it would be simply nostalgia driving any sales, and not that many, that would warrant their return. As I don't think this was that great a seller when it was re-issued lately
  18. My biggest question is what did the Marketing people really scrap out when the molds came in? Tom West didn't exactly know, but he had an idea. My biggest question to him was about the Aurora Racing Scenes 1/16 Drag Stuff, and he told me that for sure that one of the HEMI molds was destroyed when they tried using it. It was a multi piece mold that had to be done in a certain sequence and they didn't do it right, thus breaking the mold, which Tom still had a piece of! He told me that the tires for these kits where being done in Canada, and to his knowledge, they never came back. And with the recent release of the AMT Garage Scenes stuff using very similar, if not the same, mechanic figures, it leads me to believe some of this stuff survived. But, who has it and how much? Hopefully Atlantis and Round 2 will find out.
  19. It was a Land Speed car and this was taken during some shakedown runs at the track. Noel Black, owner/driver, lost his life in this car It was nicknamed the Rhinoceros due to the scoop bump up front. This is the car with the body on.
