Martini Racing Silver for Porsche 934 RSR
935k3 replied to curt raitz's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
TS-17 Gloss aluminum is good but even better is to add a small amount of white to any silver if you airbrush it. -
I have the Audi and the Mercedes started and painted. Revell did a pretty good job, They have the simplified the engine compartments some. The body break downs are complex dud to the nature and design of the real cars. They fit together pretty well. I did some slight issues getting all the "glass" to fit and lay down in the openings. I cut the side windows where there is a real break so the doors open. As a one piece item it did not lay down flat. The decal sheets are very good quality, most likely done by Cartograf.

"RUSH" the movie
935k3 replied to DavidChampagne's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I saw it last night with my son. It was a great movie and an interesting look at two very different men. Hasegawa does a really nice 1/20 scale model of Lauda's 312T2 as raced in the movie. I have it and the movie got me motivated to build it. -

another good reason to buy a dehydrator. -
Some RC hobby shops have an adhesive backed Mylar chrome sheets that can be used for mirrors. You might try and find some chrome tape.Baremetal Foil works better if you back it with a piece of .010" sheet plastic.

You can do the sme thing with a hollow punch set from Harbor Freight for about 6 bucks.

Try using a very hot damp cloth to pressed over the decals to get them to conform it works better and and its instant, with no wrinkles. Use a hot damp Q-tip for smaller areas. Also if you have trouble getting them to stick use a Q-tip and apply Future under the decal, excess Future can be cleaned up with ammonia.

Chris whatever you do don't give up on airbrushing. It is really fun and satisfying when you learn to do it. We all start somewhere and learn allot on the way. You can get Iawata Eclipse at Hobby Lobby with a 40% off coupon for about $120.00. The NEO is an authorized by Iawata airbrush made in China. I t needs extra seals due to poor mfg tolerances. Do not be intimidated by double action airbrushes, they atomize and spray paint better than single action brushes do. Checkout Don Wheelers excellent site he has reviews on the various airbrushes at this link https://sites.google.com/site/donsairbrushtips/ .

How do I make acrylic paint crack?
935k3 replied to Bastardo's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Try their acrylic clear X22 . It's known to crack over the color paints. Future also will crack over it. -
Ford GT40, 1968 LeMans film
935k3 replied to Ace-Garageguy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have watched this before and it is very good. Note what the narrator says about the guy hit in the pits, "that's what he gets for getting the way". Since youtube took off their 10 minute limit there is allot of very good documentaries. There is a great bunch on rallying. Like this one which is 1 hour and 43 minutes long. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mewziTaXDJA -
Scroll down to the in car camera video at this link http://dailycaller.com/2013/09/03/watch-someone-rally-drive-with-the-hood-up-and-a-man-sitting-on-the-engine-video/

Krylon Problem/Question
935k3 replied to Bruce Poage's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
About 6 or 7 years ago KRYLON decide to change the formula they had for 30 years. It was the best cheap paint money could buy. It has been garbage ever since. It was Acrylic Lacquer and is now enamel of some type. The key to knowing if it's lacquer or enamel is in the instructions for recoat times. If it says recoat anytime it's lacquer, if it says recoat within an hour wait x number of days it's enamel. KRYLON still make lacquer but it only comes in Gloss Black, Gloss White or clear. You have too look up on the net to buy it. I do allot of white racecars and the old white lacquer is the best white I have ever used. -
ALCLAD primers are great, they are ready to airbrush with no thinning necessary. Spray at 15 PSI. They come in White,Grey and Black.

Most Swoopy car to you ?
935k3 replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Porsche's 917LH(long tail) is one of the swoopiest race cars ever made. The long tail was for low drag on the famous 3.5 mile Mulsane straight at Lemans. It reached about 240 mph on that straight in 1971. -

Is it a car or something else?
935k3 replied to 935k3's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I think allot of the sound is air being sucked in the turbo. The Audi engine designer thinks that when an engine makes noise it is wasting energy. I do like a loud racing engine but this car does sound pretty cool and the sound adds to the sensation of the speed of the car. -
Whatever, it sounds and looks fast and it's a winner. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CKIc1BcWDlM
