I purchased several from this vendor too. His stuff is great. Scott -
I loved Mannix. Connors was great. Bought the whole Mannix TV series on DVD just last year. The show was better than I remembered. Scott

Information on Monogram's Exotics Series
unclescott58 replied to oldcarfan's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I found those 1/43 Monogram '67 Corvette and 427 Cobra a major disappointment when they came out. They were a pain in the you know what to build. And I would not buy them again if they ever reissued. But, 1/24 scale kits originally talked about in this thread, I'd love to see them come back. Scott -
Just ordered a set of 1961 Auto World license plates on a buy it now on eBay for $4.00, plus $1.00 for shipping. It sound like the guy has a few sets available for sale. Well worth getting another set at that price. Scott

Auto World 1961 License Plates
unclescott58 replied to afx's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
A quick follow up. There is a guy on eBay with a buy it now, right now, advertising complete sets for $4.00, plus $1.00 shipping. There is another one asking $24.99, plus $4.99 shipping for the exact same thing. Then there is another with an incomplete set going for $3.00, plus $2.67 shipping. It sounds like the guy selling them for $4.00 a set, has a few sets available. And his shipping drops to $0.25 for each additional set you buy after you first one. I ordered another set at that price. Scott -
Auto World 1961 License Plates
unclescott58 replied to afx's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've got at least one complete, mint, set of these plates still. I may have two? The one I know I have for sure is kept inside my copy of my 1971 Auto World catalog. I gave another mint set to a guy about 15 years ago who wanted to make a decal set of them. With the promise I would get at least one set of decals in exchange. Never saw the decals. And have not seen the guy who said he was going to do them in years. One can still find these Auto World license plates showing up on eBay from time to time. Because Auto World printed a ton of these back in the day, they are not really all that hard to find. And can be picked up at fairly reasonable prices. Scott -
I too am very impressed with how your Pyro/Lindberg Lincoln turned out Dave. You did a great job. Scott

More trouble than it's worth? Mailing UPC from the box sounds pretty easy and fair to me. They're not asking to ship the whole kit back, are they? I've found that Revell has very good customer service. In fact they are one of the best. Second. Red plastic sucks! I use Tamiya primer. And it seems like no matter how much primer I use on red plastic, I always get a pink tint in the primer in the end. I've never had the wrinkling problem you had. I've found that dark lacquer colors over primer covers the red plastic in the end. I hate red plastic more than any other color. I've read here and in other places about why, or why not, red plastic is a problem. There is a lot of disagreement by people as to what the problem is. Scott

Can you explain further. I have no idea what your talking about. ? Scott -
Missed this one for some reason. Just got the same kit today. So I was doing a web search and came across this. Good job of making a silk purse out of a sows ear. I'm impressed. Scott

Terrible Kits You Love!
unclescott58 replied to Chuck Most's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
My Lindberg '37 Cord arrived in the mail today. I opened it up and found exactly what I expected. The good. The bad. And the ugly. Yet I'm pleased to have one back in my collection. (I know. It's a sickness.) Scott -
I had to order a Lindberg 1937 Cord convertible a couple of days ago. It just arrived on my porch within the last 15 minutes. I opened it up, and found exactly what I was expecting. I built one years ago (a Pyro version). This kit is no where up to the standards of Monogram's '37 Cord kit. Still, I had to have one. I still consider the '36-'37 Cords the most beautiful car ever designed. Even with as bad as this old Pyro/Lindberg kit maybe. They couldn't ruin the looks of this great car. I also have an old Revell 1/32 scale Cord I need to finish one of these days. And someday I hope add AMT's large scale kit to my collection too. Scott

The mailman just dropped off the Lindberg '37 Cord I ordered a couple of days ago. Opening up the box, it looks as good/bad as I remember it to be. No where as nice as Monogram's version. Still, it's kind of cool. And Idon't know why? Scott

Still waiting for the Craftsman kits to make a come back. Hopefully their 1/32 scale Scale Star kits are selling well enough to get Round 2 thinking about bringing some of these Craftsman kits back. Scott

Moebius '65 Mercury Comet Cyclone news
unclescott58 replied to Dave Metzner's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Looking at the above pictures, I'm guessing that the chrome pieces between the trunk lid and the rear window, are just there for looks. In the 50's and 60's stylist loved putting fake vents in different locations on cars. The above love like they are one of those fake vents, that somebody FoMoCo at the time thought looks cool. It's a weird one. But, I like it. Scott -
Looking good so far. I'm looking forward to seeing the end result. Scott

Or are you going to do what I did when I purchased my Auto World Petty vs. Baker HO set about a year ago? And never take it out of box? In fear of ruining its pristine its condition? At times I think it's ridiculous at I bought the set. I really have no interest in racing slot cars anymore. But, the Petty vs. Baker set represents a time when I was into racing slot cars. So I couldn't pass it up. And it is a beautiful set. Scott

AMT Surf Woody Has anyone built one?
unclescott58 replied to PatW's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
This for me has been a fun thread to follow. It may have gotten a little off track. But, somehow with this one I find it okay. I love the surf music. And the Hawk kit. In fact I hope we get to see more of the Hawk kit. Fun to compare it to the AMT/Barris version. I hope this thread keeps going, and stay as fun as has been. Scott
