Fun stuff. By the way is the mascot/stuffed animal with the '63 Pontiac a skunk?! -
Searching around I found some gamers acrylic paint by a company called Vallejo. And have an Oxide Orange paint for doing rust that looks like it should fit the bill. I just ordered a bottle from a vendor on eBay.

I did know where to place this, since it's not really about a car or truck model. It really didn't seem to fit under "All of the Rest" at this point in the build. So I hope you indulge me with my question here. I'm building the reissue of Revell's Flash Gordon model, put out by Atlantis Models. The kit comes with Flash and a Martian. I've already given the Martian a nice shade of metallic green. But, what to paint the two bases these models stand on? The box art shows a picture with kind a tan surface, a gray mountain in the back ground, and a very dark sky. Since Flash is encountering a Martian, I'm assuming he's on Mars? But, the box art doesn't look like Mars as we know it. Even back then. I want to paint the bases for this kit that kind of rusty red the surface of Mars has. I'm trying to figure out what paint to use that will look somewhat convincing. Any suggestions out there?

Always a good job on one the greatest ever Snake.

Okay, back to my obsession about knowing the facts on things. The following information comes from "Plymouth proudly announces the birth of a new Beep-Beep" folder. "ROAD RUNNER HARDTOP- A BRAND NEW RUNNING MATE FOR YOUR SUPER- SUCCESSFUL COUPE! The following extras will be on the Road Runner Hardtop as standard equipment: An all-vinyl interior (same as on Satellite 2-door Hardtop Bright door trim panel retaining moldings Bright armrest bases Rear armrests with ash receivers Color-keyed carpeting with automatic transmission (black only with 4-speed) Partial horn ring Rear deck appliqué Four Road Runner bird decals: one on the instrument panel, one on each door, full-speed-ahead version on the deck lid. This is the first time this equipment has been standard on Road Runner. Let's really get on the bandwagon with the new Hardtop and make it as successful as the Coupe. If you don't like it, don't buy it. I don't like it, so I'll be passing on it. -
Then Luc why does Round 2 keep doing it? Fixing up old tools. There must be some money to be made there? But, for the most we are just speculating on what Round 2 may or may not have. We can always hope for the best.

Any chance of showing us photos? I'd love see what it looks like unbuilt.

I found with Revell that it may vary in the length time you have to wait on certain things. Other things they'll ship quite quickly. I suppose it may have something to do with what they have in inventory. I've had times were I thought I was not going to get something from Revell. Maybe I need to put in a second request? Then the part suddenly arrived. It's not fun sometimes waiting for things. But the world doesn't revolve around me and my model building. Too bad. It should. ?

Not to say your wrong. But, why is it some Craftsman kits survived and others didn't? Plus there is enough differences in some cases, I suspect a second tool. As noted by others, compare the two '66 Thunderbirds for example. Or for that matter the two '57 Thunderbirds that AMT put out back in the day. Also go to the Model Car Instructions and Box Art website, and looking at the instructions for both '66 Skylarks make me suspect two tools were used. Now I know little to nothing about how model cars tools are designed and sometimes used. So I may be full of beans in my observations Snake. Even though you are probably right, I kind of hope you are not in this case.

Just an idea for reissues

With that last line Harry, are you trying to tell us something? I sure hope so. -
I love it. Especially the color.

I'm sure Mike is right. But, I did get a kick out your rebuttal, Christian. ?

Snake are the four you listed converted from the Craftman version of each kit? I believe they all came from annuals that had things like motors under their opening hoods. I believe the '66 Skylark annual was converted to modified dirt track racer. But, they a whole sperate tooling for the Craftman version of that car. Where is that?

Just an idea for reissues
unclescott58 replied to GaryR's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'll keep buying their reissues. Old technology and things like simple chassis don't bother me one bit. There are so many kits I missed over the years. Or had disappeared from the collection I had a kid. I love the old stuff. I don't mind building a detailed suspension and chassis under a more modern tool. Heck I didn't mind the detail of old kits like Revell Mysterion. But, there are still times I enjoy do a simple kit. I'd love to see AMT find, if they're there, their old Craftsman kits. I'll buy everyone they reissue. And from hearing complains by others, of mistakes made in developing new kits. Do we really want a them to mess around and screw up a classic? Your a model builder. If you want more detail, build it. Maybe kit bash. But, I hope Round 2 does not listen to you on this. Because I still love the old stuff. And I'm willing to pay the money for it. -

Your taking away 98% of your business scratch building, from your local hobby shop. They will not be able stay alive if don't start buying fake grass and twigs from them right away! ? -
Okay. I changed my mind and ordered one off of eBay. Now I just need Keith Marks to back to me, so I can order the correct decals.

Those wheels are actually available brand new now. From my understand they look exactly like the '69 Recall wheels, but with none of the problems.

I've never had a problem with either eBay or PayPal. And I've gotten a lot of great deals on eBay. I don't know why your having so many problems Ellen. Craig's List I'm a little leery of. I've gotten some good deals there. But, I'm always very careful in dealing with anybody on Craig's List. I use to buy a lot on Amazon. But, when they raised the level you needed to pay before getting free shipping, I've been using them less. -
For what?

Thanks Snake for bringing this thread back. It was fun to go through. And I'm amazed at much of what's shown I have, or have had in the past. Never really found much use for the stuff. But, I loved when the old kits included such things. And I like that Round 2 has put a lot of that stuff back out.
