Very cool. Even though I have one of the Ertl ones from the late 90's, that I've done nothing with, I'll still be buy this one. The soup box derby car and the box art make it worth while for me.

Flea Market Find today
unclescott58 replied to Sledsel's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
They've been around for quite a few years now. In fact, the model appeared here in this country before the real car did. I don't pay that much attention to Smart Cars. Does the kit even represent the version of the Smart Car sold in United States? -
Micro Mask by Microscale question
unclescott58 replied to thatz4u's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've always wanted to try some liquid masking solution since I first heard of the idea back in the early 70's. Don't know why I have not tried it over the years? So, on the above advice I went ahead and ordered some Humbrol Maskol. I'm looking forward to seeing what I can do with it. -
I too would like a '79 300 someday. It's the only version of the Córdoba that I ever really liked.

The guy builds beautiful models. To rich for my blood. But, I have no problem with him selling them for what he gets. It's up to person who buys the model to determine what it's worth. And since his stuff sells, they must be worth the price. At least to someone.

Revell '29 Ford A roadster questions
unclescott58 replied to unclescott58's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Good to hear that I haven't screwed something up along the way. I think the mounting of the floor pan to the chassis a little odd, but it seems to work. -
I agree 100% with you on both authors. Rand was another very interesting person. I almost agree with nothing she believed in. Yet I liked Atlas Shrugged. Someday I need to read her book Fountainhead.

Ah! That is the question. If we knew what the real question is, then 42 would made sense and all of our problems be solved. Another very good book on philosophy, is Sophie's World, written by Jostein Gaarder. It was mainly written for teenagers, and mainly aimed at girls. But don't let that stop you from reading it. It's really best book I've ever read explaining the basics of philosophical thinking through out history. There has also been a movie based on it. But like most movies, it can not really convey the ideas from the book with any depth.

Switzerland does not issue a gun to every adult. If your a soldier in the Swiss army you are required to keep a gun at home. Switzerland does have a high rate of gun ownership compared to other countries in the European Union. Yet that percentage is still lower than the United States. Under 30%. I believe in our Constitutional right to keep a gun in this country if one wishes to. As I've noted before, I don't wish to do so. And that should be okay too. I also believe in Castle laws. You should have a right to defend yourself if someone breaks into your while you are there. Also I'm glad to see Robert Heinlein get quoted here in a philosophical discussion. I did not agree with a lot his views on things. But, over the years his fiction books in particular got me thinking about somethings in a slightly different light. Every ten years or so, I try to rereading Stanger In a Strange Land. And the answer to all philosophical questions is still 42.

I'm slowly building my '29 roadster. Overall I really like the kit. But, I have some questions and observations about the kit that I don't believe others have brought up here. I'd like to hear others opinions. I know about the wrong information given in the instructions, and this has nothing to with those issues. I'm building the chanelled version of the kit. I was surprised when I went to attach the interior floor on to the chassis. I thought the floor would sit flush with the frame rails. They do not. The parts look correct, yet the floor pan sits just slightly above the flame rails. Test fitting everything in to the body she still looks correct. Is this the way it should be? Or did I goof up and glue in the wrong center frame member? I suspect I used the right one because how the two pieces come together in the rear mounts too. The molded in rear mounts also make it impossible to mount the floor pan flush with the frame rails. Second is mounting the engine. Looking at the engine, it looks like there are two indentations in the side of the block for mounting the engine into the frame. With channeled frame the engine sits very nicely in the lower of the two notches. At that point she sits pretty level in the frame. So are the second, upper set of notches for the highboy version? The instructions are not clear on either issue. Am I doing things right? Or am I messing them up? On last thing. The one thing I didn't like with the kit right from the start. The molding of the rear wheel wells with interior side panels. So I took a razor saw cut them off where they meet. I then glued the wheel wells in to their positions and painted them with the rest of the body. I painted the interior panels separating. Installing them later. This worked out great. I was very pleased with the results. I question why Revell didn't set up the parts themselves to work that way? The way they set it up make no sense to me.

I love this type of stuff. And I'm always amazed at the knowledge of people here.

Again Revell's great customer service makes me happy. I can now finish my '29 A roadster.

Thank you Harry. I too hope this resolves itself without your intervention.

Are any of these models fun to build?

The AMT Double Dragster Drag Team kit I found to be a lot fun. I had so much fun building the two dragsters in my first, that had to buy a second kit. -
Your an ass. And need to go away. Have you posted anything here, in any thread, that's not a put down of other people? I have yet to see any. I've been here awhile, and most of the guys posting here are pretty good guys. I like what they have to say. You just seem to be out to offend other people. Why? What's your aim in posting what you do?
-
Harry or who ever controls this site. Have you read the above guys comments? Even though it's not aimed at me directly, I find it more than a little offensive. We don't need that kind of thing here. Do we?

Sag in the rear? That is either an old top. Or one that was not properly redone by the person that redid the top. Even cars in the 40', 50's, and 60's the tops should be fairly taunt. Again if your roof is sagging, it's either old or poorly redone. A person who knows what they are doing, will make the new a top little big to account for future settling in/shrinkage. There maybe a little sagging then. But, in the long run? -
Other than the using the tweezers, that's basically the way I do it. In this case the decal disappeared as I was moving it into place on the chrome cluster itself. Where the thing went? I don't know. I'm thinking maybe Snakes idea of using the tip of Xacto blade maybe the answer. But, at the same time, I doubt anybody with really notice in this case that I painted the gauges in the cluster, rather than use the decals. I can think of several times were I sweated to get a tiny decal in place that would never be seen again once the model was finished. Yet I keep trying.

From what I remember the original '69 Firebird also came with a clear hood. So you could show off which ever of the 3 engine you picked and put in the car. Back to Corvettes. I wonder what happened to MPC's 1/20 scale Corvettes? I always thought it odd at the time that they would offer the same car every year back then, in two different scales so close together. I know they offered both a coupe and roadster, like their small 1/25 scale cousins, in different years. I don't know if they ever offered both body styles in 1/20 at the same time? I'm not a big fan of car kits in this scale. But, it would be fun to know what was offered and when. This maybe another thread that could be started by someone who knows?

Just found out a cousin 2 years younger than I passed away on Monday, from lung cancer. I haven't seen or talked to Marc in 35, maybe 40 years. He moved to Texas, and we lossed touch with each other. He was one of 45 first cousins. Sad to say he never came back for any of the reunions we have had every 2 years, for many years now. It would have been nice to see him. In the summer of 1972 I spent about week with his family while my folks were gone on trip. Marc and I had a blast. Together we went to a local department store in Cloquet, MN, were he lived, and bought several cool model cars. I bought two AMT kits. The Chevy Open Road camper and my first Derora. He bought two JoHan kits. The '66 Cadillac Ambulance and the when new '72 Cad Eldorado. He's in Gods hands now. Reunited with his parents and brother. I love you Marc Weaver. I'm a little bit ticked, but mainly sad that I didn't get to see you or talk with you over the years. You left us at way to young of an age. Someday I hope to see you again, in heaven. But, that may be a while.

I just noticed this thread for the first time. Wow! Harry, we need you around to criticize the lack of mirrors, etc, on our models. ? Today cancer is not the life threatening disease it once was. The treatments have gotten so much better. I'm willing to bet you'll come out okay on this. To help you along, I will be keep you in my prayers.
