Yep. That's it. I love that design. Oh, and remember Pure's slogan: "You Can Be Sure With Pure". If there were Pure Firebird decals for this kit, I'd buy one right away.

I'd love to see a review on this kit. I've seen some photos in the past. Mainly of old glue bombs. But, nothing that really shows what comes in the box. So I'm courious about the detail and general look of the kit? The kit was originally tooled by Monogram well over 50 years ago now. How is it by today's standards? Most Jag E Type kits one sees seem a little off proportion wise. Wow is this one?

I'm not a big fan of this kit. But, if I could find some Pure Oil "Firebird"* decals that fit it, I'd build one. I'd also love to find Pure/Firebird decals for AMT's tanker trailer too. * For those who don't know Firebird was the name for Pure Oil's racing gas. It had a very cool logo, with they're interpretation of a Firebird. Very different from Pontiac's Firebird emblem. I believe Pure started using the Firebird brand in 1961. About 6 years before Pontiac's Firebird showed up on the scene. About the same time as Pontiac brought their Firebird to market, Pure Oil merged with Union Oil of California. And over the next couple of years, converted the Pure stations into Union 76s. Phasing out the Pure and Firebird names and logos. When I was a young kid, Pure was the main brand of gasoline my father bought. I was never happy when UniCal took them over, converting them to Union 76s. I missed their Firebird.

Moebius '65 Mercury Comet Cyclone news

The above looks good. (To me at least.) I'll be buying one as soon as I can. -
Others may still be interested. Speaking of models of Pontiac Grand Prixs, I was lucky to get my order into Modelhaus before they quit taking orders, for their resin '67 Grand Prix convertible. By far my favorite of Pontiac of all time. The only year Pontiac offered a Grand Prix convertible. And I love that front end. Looks a bit like the TV Batmobile's. In my eyes a classy looking car. I know the last MPC Grand Prix model was the '72. Which was later modified into the Welcome Back Kotter, Sweat Hogs dream car. I would how bad those dies were ruined to make that kit? For I would love to see the '72 Grand Prix kit come back.

I've never heard the "strange harmonic vibration or oscillation" theory before. And a standard joint length on US Interstate highways? I've heard rumors of that one. But, even if they had a standard it would be tough to match in a lot of cases. The change in wheelbase on the '68 GM "A" body cars was done strictly for styling. The four-doors were stretched one inch, which did provide a slightly better ride, as lengthening the wheelbase on any car will. The two-doors dropped three inches, because it made them look better. More sportier than the four-doors. An interesting wheelbase story is the one on the then new '65 full-size Dodge. They dropped the wheelbase of the big Dodges from a 122" wheelbase to 121". One inch. Not a big deal right? Well it was to the California Highway Patrol at the time. For ride reasons they would not accept any car with a wheelbase under 122". (This was changed in the mid-70's.) So Dodge ended up building special Polaras with the rear axle moved back to meet the requirements of the CHP. And for the CHP only. The CHP contract was worth that much to them back then. The contract for CHP cars was so big, that Buick in 1956 built special Century two-door sedans for the CHP only. (The rest of us, if we wanted a two-door Century, we had to be happy with the two-door "Riviera" hardtop. If you want a Buick two-door sedan most years, including '56 you bought it in the Buick Special line. With the smaller motor.) For '67, all full-size Dodges were back up to a 122" wheelbase.

Revell 68 Dodge Charger kit question.
unclescott58 replied to GMP440's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
1968 Dodge Chargers had small round side marker lights. 1969, they became rectangular. -
Why would the Teddy Bear not eat his dinner? Because he was already stuffed.

I hope both versions of the new Camaro kit sell very well. But, I personally do not want even the simplified version for myself. I want promos. Of the coupe now. And hopefully a convertible in a year or two. I love building kits. But, I love promos even more. I do have the last generation Camaros in both coupe and convertible promo versions. Plus, the latest Sring Rays. And no kits of either.
-
Any photos of these kits? I've seen a few of AMT's '64 1/2-'65 Mustangs on line. But, very few of the others. I'd especially love to see the '55 Thunderbird (or course). Both built, and unbuilt.

That's a shame. Round 2 should have turned this into a 2-in-1 kit. Stock and Street Rod versons since they have done the parts for both in the past.
-
I see they moved this thread to the "kit review" section, from the general. That make sense since this thread is really a review of the C2 Corvette kits. Good decision on whoever decided to move it.

What predictions can we make for new kit releases in 2017?
unclescott58 replied to GMP440's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Yep. '74 was the last year of the smaller window. This would be a good year to do. Offer it as a '74 Type LT. For in '74 (and '73) the Z28 could be had with the Type LT. That way if someone doesn't like the Z28, they could still build a "plain" Camaro. In the last season of the TV show Mannix ('74-'75), Mannix himself drove a '74 Type LT with Z28 wheels. So you could then replicate one of his cool cars in model form. -
???? What? And why? I'm sorry, but this thread is a little lame to me.

A big bumper '74 Z28 would be very cool. Put me down for one, if it ever happens. -
AMTERTL 1994 car trailer

Interesting going to the above link. They say it's not compatible certain Polystyrenes. So would this stuff work with this kit or not? If it does, I may just go on eBay and buy some. -
I got the Revell SnapTite kit finished already. It turned on great straight out of the box with a little glue and foil. Right now it's sitting next to my AMT Prestige '63 convertible. Fun to contrast and compare the two, sitting side by side. I'm not sure which one I like better. They are both fine 1/25 scale representatives of the '63 Corvette convertibles. Which one would I want to own as a real car? Again, I'm not sure. The Revell kit represents a car with PowerGlide and air conditioning. And I love anything in blue. I'm not keen on the tan interior. But, it's okay. The AMT kit represents a car with a four-speed and fuel injection. And I painted it red with a red interior. Despite loving blue, red is still a great color for Corvettes. The Revell car in real life would be very nice for touring and driving in traffic. Especially on hot days. The AMT version in real life would grab more attention and respect from other car guys. It too would still be a nice car for touring. But not if the weather is hot. So which do I like better? In general I'd like the AMT fuelie a little more as a real car. But I would not turn away a C2 Vette with air and a PowerGlide at the same time either.

Awww C'mon!! Really??
unclescott58 replied to MrObsessive's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I agree. What's wrong with him asking $300.00? He can ask. But, nobody is putting a gun to my head, and telling me I have buy it. I wouldn't mind owning the kit. But not for $300.00. In fact I'm sure what I would be interested in getting kit for is way below what a lot of you would be willing to pay for it. It's not one that is that high on my lists of must haves. -
The right fish might enjoy it. Just don't build the kit using Elmer's regular white glue. Or you'll be reassembling it in a very short time.

In today's mail, came the 1/25 scale Revell SnapTite '63 Sting Ray convertible I ordered a week or two ago. Opened it up. It looks pretty nice. As I expected it to be. Hope to have it done before I go to bed tonight. Sometime it's fun to build something as simple as this kit is. Simple, but very nice detail. Looks better than some glue kits.

AMTERTL 1994 car trailer
unclescott58 replied to Nova-ss's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
I will check it out. I wonder if we carry it at the O'Reilly's I work during the summer? Does the stuff set up fairly quickly. And any idea what it is? A white glue? Superglue? Epoxy? Or what? -
Had a very good day going up north with my sister to visit an 89 year old aunt. Who looks and acts like she's 15 to 20 years younger than she is. She has always been my favorite aunt, and was so nice to see she is still doing so well. I asked, and she ended up telling a wonderful story of how she ended up dating and marrying my late uncle back in the late 1940's. Her and my uncle Ray were always great at telling true stories in such an interesting way. A couple of cousins, but not Ray and Elanor's kids, joined us for the visit. And it was great to spend time with them too. On the way back, we stop and visited with one of my dad's cousins who was close to my sister and my age, rather than my dad's. Again, another wonderful visit. Though some sad family stories were discussed there. My dad's cousin has a cute little cabin in the woods near the old family homestead. And very close to cemetery where her parents, and my grandparents are buried. So, we did make a stop there with her before going home too. This all may sound a little depressing. But, it really wasn't.

Thanks for posting this Gerry. I've been waiting for someone to get smart and offer us a Bronco model kit for at least 40 years now. And from looking at the photos, they done a great job on the kit. -
Round 2 came through like champs. I got my replacement frames in this morning's mail. Back to working on the kit.
