  1. Yeah,I've still got kits from the 80's I haven't built yet.
  2. Ah, the 'Plain Jane' version. How do you letter the tires? Nice!
  3. That is one big model. I've always wanted one of those. Looks really good,to. Did he build the Safari wagon, too?
  4. i use the back edge of my Xacto knife blade to pick up the BMF. you get a little bit of the blade under it,and lift carefully. Sometimes you may have to press it on the blade to keep it from coming off again. As far as wrinkling goes,it may just take some practice,or try different ways of pulling off the backing paper.
  5. If it wasn't for BMF , I probably wouldn't build models. I hated trying to paint the trim on cars. It never looked right, and I wasn't very good at it. BMF can be a pain sometimes, but the results are worth it.
  6. Very nice! One of my favorite kits!
  7. Very cool. The van is kinda like a Zinger. Harry is right about using a pen.
  8. Thanks Mike. I've had people tell me 'I don't know how you do that'. I tell them it's all light and shadow. And practicing for 55 years doesn't hurt.... I owe a lot to this guy. Remember Jon Gnagy? My parents bought me one of these when I was about 7.
  9. I noticed that there hasn't been too many posts on here. I figured I'd add a couple of mine. Thanks for looking These ar pencil on illustration board.
  10. Wow... I remember the Life Of Riley when it was on TV,but I was pretty little. I don't remember that episode. Love the old hot rods.
  11. I like it! It looks like something I would build. lol
  12. Oh yeah. I made a promise to my self not to start another model until I finish most of my 'projects. If I get bored with one of them,at least I can go to another and do something to it. I figure that eventually I'll gett one done.
  13. The first post summed it up. one more thing - I love the smell of a new kit when it's opened for the first time. Are we wierd?
  14. So sorry for your loss. Take all the time you need.
  15. Here's another one. I had one of these and built it,then sold it. The model itself isn't as detailed as what the boxart shows. It could be motorized.
  16. I vote to cut the roof off,and use the kit windshield frame.too. That skinny piece of resin is very brittle. Sunvisors are easy to make. Get your saw out.
  17. Ellen, thanks for the compliments. Yes it is an unusual color. This is the first model I ever painted light purple. Haryy,You're right. I noticed that too after I posted the pics. It's better now. I had to really push on it to get it down where it belonged.
  18. I finally finished something. This is a second edition AMT kit. Not the original, but the one after it. It was partially built, missing parts, and molded in a dark red. For some reason, they changed the custom hubcaps after the firat issue. These look 64 Corvette caps. It's painted Testor's purple, with a white interior. It's not detailed at all. It supposed to be a 60's custom, the way thay built them back then. The tires are from the Revell 64 Chevy pickup,I believe.
  19. Never knew that existed! I'd like to have one. Does Ira know about this?
  20. Yeah ,the 64,65,and 66 are the tough ones to get. A lot of them were only issued once. I used to have every Vette from 1953 to 1993,plus pace cars. It took up a lot of room...I still have the pace cars.
  21. Yeah,in the 70's they were going to use a 3 chamber Wankel mounted behind the passenger compartment.
  22. Wow! What a cool thread! I remember some of these kits, and others I've never seen. When I was a kid (late 50's ,early 60's) we had some bird models,an owl model ,and a giant bee model. I have the Gigantic Mantis model.I had a friend over one day,who is scared to death of insects. They almost fainted when they saw the mantis haging from the wall sconce. The only slighly wierd kit I have is the Juraissc Attack monster truck.
  23. I've built kits for friends, and didn't make a dime on them just counting materials. That's not why I did it.It made them happy, and they still have the models I built. They still mention the models every time I talk to them. Yes,I would charge more for a stranger, but if it's just a straight build,it wouldn't be that much.
