Could I bother you for just a little more info on the black bird? Revell or AMT?, kit # or pic of box art? Thanks for any help you can share.?

Wowzers!! What a great group of models you have to there, Cliff! Not a bad one in the bunch. I love those birds. They look “right”. There is plenty of inspiration in those pics!

Lacquer over enamel - possibility?
Nacho Z replied to Monty's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Let me applaud everyone in this thread, at least so far, for the civil answers and help being given. I asked the same question in two groups on Facebook not too long ago. To be more specific, I asked if I could shoot Tamiya TS over Krylon. I had my reasons for this situation. Pretty simple question requiring a pretty simple answer. I did get some helpful answers but I got just as many "what the heck are you thinking" type answers. Had my skills as a modeler even being questioned, (please feel free to look at my models in the Workbench and Under Glass sections). One Admin took a cheap shot at me and then turned off responses to my post so I couldn't even explain why I was asking the question in the first place. I don't, and never will, understand why people have to put down someone else in that manner. Just answer the question, add some explanation if needed and move on. No need to denigrate anyone. I do see it happen here on MCM too but not like it is on FB. Anyhow, I just thought I would share that with you all. Thanks! (BTW, I am going to finish that model, two-tone, in Krylon just to prove it can be done and it can be done well.) -
Great model and great photos!

Just wanted to give a big “Thank You” to everyone who took a minute to comment on the Stutz Black Hawk. I was smitten with this car and model the first time I saw it and was thrilled to be able to build it.

Thanks, guys! I used a piece of black acrylic to place the car on. It is nearly impossible to keep it dust free but makes for a nice photo.

Thanks, guys! I appreciate your comments!

I finished my first resin model. This was originally made by Etzel's Speed Classics and then by American Racing Miniatures. The WIP can be seen here: On to the finished model. Let me know what you think.

And I loaded up the third and final post only to get an Error 404 when I tried to post it. Then it all disappeared. I’m not impressed.

Disclaimer!! I have never worked with white metal and I know absolutely zip about it. The white metal casting looked rough to me. I tried various things that I had on hand and ended up using plain old sanding sticks and sandpaper. Like the resin, there were pin holes that needed to be filled. I think I did OK on getting the parts smooth...lol. One of my concerns was getting the correct "look" for the wheel spats. The 1:1 was just buffed aluminum panels. They were by no means super smooth nor super shiny. I don't yet really airbrush competently and wanted to use rattle cans. I settled on Testors Buffing Aluminum Plate, (I think that is the correct name). Although not a perfect match to the 1:1, I was not totally disappointed with the results. There is very little to the interior, just a few pieces. Here are a few pieces in progress. The seat received another coat or two of paint. The dash was small but well cast. You can make out the numbers on the speedometer! And when the instructions tell you to make a tube 1.92 inches long, you make it 1.92 inches long!

Holy cats, guys, I totally forgot that I had started a build thread on this car! The model is finished but let me continue on with the WIP thread. There isn't much to the kit so there isn't going to be a lot to post but I will give you what I have. I had said that it is a pretty nice casting but that doesn't mean it is perfect. There are a number of things to fix. I think all four wheel spats had some minor issues. Not so much pin holes but dents or impressions. To fix them would mean screwing up the rivet detail. The rivet detail is small holes, not raised heads. I like to use Mr. Surfacer 500 for jobs like this. For actual pin holes I used superglue.

Wow!! That is gorgeous! I absolutely love the color combination. They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and I may have to copy your work if/when I build mine! Really, really nice work, Don.

Great looking Buick, Kyle! Outstanding job on this one.

Just a superb build, Dann!! I enjoyed watching this come together. The photos really show it off well. Excellent job!

Wow!, Bruce, what a gorgeous build! Such a sleek car. Everything on yours looks so good. Nice job!!

This is such a sexy racer, IMHO. You have done an outstanding job on this, Paul! Ten completed already this year, WOW! All of them are just as nice as this one. I have this kit in the stash and hope I can pull it off as half as nice as you did.

Nice to see one of these built up. I have all but one of these kits. I have not built one yet. Yours might just be the inspiration I need to get one started! Your perseverance has paid off in the form of a great looking racer.

Another beautiful build from your workbench. That is a unique color for sure but it really works on this Jag. Thanks for sharing!

Wow!!! Beautiful model and beautiful photography!

John, I don’t know if you are on FB, but there is a group called “Box Art Model Car Builders, Artists & Industry Insiders”. That would be a great question for them. Maybe I’ll ask them.
