  9. Posted on the Hyperscale board by Bob Johnson.... Probbly more than any of you guys, I really have had my heart in the Monogram stock car projects since 1981..after the 1981 Daytona 500 where the first in-car cameras debuted, it became apparent that new model kits of the "new gen" 11" wheelbase cars could be a whole new category following the IMSA Mustangs. One of the first individuals I met with was John Rddle,a NASCAR V.P. John like the idea and told me in July of 1981 that I should license directly with the team owners and NOT with NASCAR.. the first "deals" were with Bud Moore, Harry melling, Junior Johnson, and the Bob Tezak for 3% on a non-exclusive basis. AMT had the NASCAR license, but, you all know the quality of the Monogram kits just blew them out of the water.. NASCAR license be dammed.. the first tooling investment for 2 complete mold sets and a tire mold was $228K..... new cars were tooled subsequently as die-cast sales in the 1990's negatively affected kit sales (I designed revell collection and team caliber, so I contributed to the downfall as well).. Free spenders like Fred Waginals encouraged the teams to be greedy and real whores... lately, clowns like Equity Managememt have "piled on" for Chevy, Pontiac and Goodyear... and don't forget NASCAR and their share.. they have the UNMITIGATED GALL to claim they have rights to ANY stock car that has ever raced in a NASCAR event!!! Now, the total royalties are in the range of 20% to 22%.... if a model company nets 10% to 15% at the end of the year, it should be obvious that they lose money on every NASCAR kit that is sold.... Think about it next time.. look at the drivers with their fancy watches, big jets, million dollar coaches, and huge endorsement contracts.. teams with 500 employees and huge facilities.. it will all change in years to come.. just think of how many people learned about stock car racing with Monogram kits.... Guys like Fireball Roberts, Earnhardt, Joe Weatherly, Cale Yarrough were racers.. these new guys are entertainers.. The end of NASCAR kits is a true loss, but, the run was simply great and ALL OF YOU who built them benefitted from a great creative team at Monogram Models!! 10. maybe they can use the "extra" budget to tool up some decent tires
  11. The mail or letter you got was most likely from their (consumer) sales dept. and as Bob explained, they only see an SKU which has been canceled, and basically is an order number for a product produced from tooling X, Y, Z, which itself has an internal project code. I'm sure an new SKU will be issued whenever marketing feel they have the right product for the market. Luc
  12. Well the profit goes to Detroit (using the same logic as all those who say, that the profits of an American build Japanese car go to Japan ;^) I work for GM in Antwerp, Belgium and we build dam good cars (Opel/Vauxhall/Holden/Chevy/Saturn, Astra) hopefully we won't be shut down due to the current crisis. Luc
  13. Good to see Lindberg is picking up the police version of the Charger, Testors was suppose to release.
  14. OMG! This guy is unbelievable, what's next the Commodore GS/E Version?
  15. What is the outside diameter and the length (dept) of the rim? (in mm if possible) I'm going wheelhunting tomorrow TIA for your help Luc
  16. The name rings a bell, they sure were nice folks. Thanks for the info
  17. just wondering ,but did the Smith Brothers also have (or had) a store in Tarzana? I remember a talk with the owners of a hobby store located in Tarzana, and they said that they were from Northridge but temp. moved due to the quake (I was visiting LA in '97) I also know that there's a good hobby shop a few blocks east of where the Military shop in long beach is, probably can drive to it but don't remember the street or name of the hobby shop. Luc
  18. Indeed a great place, even got a set of "far away from home" freebie wheels when I was visiting with a local friend.
  19. Are these tires only in the Supra kit, or also in other FF cars? Thx
  20. One of the reasons I play the lottery every week I'm still undecided which company will get my business
  21. Bob aren't these cars III, IV, V used by the bling bling low and high riser crowd? If yes there might be a chance if not, sad...I'm a fan of those big boats what else can one expect from a kid who grew up in the '70s Oh yeah, didn't Revell do well with their '70's Monte?, wonder who bought those '70s kids like me?
  22. Indeed, just got the Revell Germany newsletter for July and it's listed as available, you can see a pic of the build up (prototype?!) at their site (360°) Luc
  23. If you ever happen to go to Belgium, I'll buy you a beer.
  24. quite regrettable, but also understandable, cuz you're not affiliated with the company and you don't see what the possible consequences for them could be. Do hope the damage isn't permanent meaning "you're out of the circle of trust" (like Robert De Niro says in the movie meet the fockers) but that this is a lesson to be very careful and to ispense only what has been approved for public consummation. Believe me, I've see lotsa interesting things at my work, but........
