  1. Indeed it's selling a dream, what the raw plastic can turn into, and don't spoil it with words on how to do it, cuz then it gets too complicated.
  2. Maybe opening hood and detailed engine, scare most weekend modelers away, as to them maybe it reads, too complicated to build!
  3. There's more via the link Jonathan
  4. What Jonathan says, they're riding on the nostalgia train, heck they even re-box new releases of the '90s and early 2000s, in faux retro boxes.
  5. just found a review on a German modeling site, I will pickup my copy the 17th, at a hobby show in town. Photo courtesy of Kitchecker Modell-Journal Belkits Opel manta 400 review
  6. Interesting statement.
  7. What Rob said Anyway here's a kit that sold me via the box-art, sadly Otaki didn't get the grille right, built both the stock as well as the Sheriff's version, both sadly were played to smithereens, and untill ten years ago I still had their boxes, but then sold them to a guy who loved the box-art.
  8. Oops seems I couldn't make my joke come across... Yodel I think it was (once) a model kit producer had a series called "American Violence" (if I can find a pic, of the box-art I'll post it) featuring kits of American iron, like the late '70s Plymouth Fury/Dodge Monaco.... Anyway I love American cars, especially the big boats of the '70s, always have....always will.
  9. In violent American cars? But yes, Japanese manufacturers during the years had US cars in their lineup, the last I recall was the Chevy Astro/GMC Safari European cars until today always have been in their lineup.
  10. I'm not denying that, in fact that's what the survey is all about.
  11. Yes but still the question has been asked on a website of a US distributor (which Hasegawa US is) so the bulk of the input will be most likely of North Americans On the other hand if a more global oriented site like Perth military modeling would post the question, they will get (military modeling) suggestions from all over the place, same if Hasegawa posts on FB.
  12. The more reason I think it's odd, that the question is asked on the US website, unless they're looking for subjects that are of mutual interest to the US and Japan modelers. For cars it could mean... Looking for subjects of Japanese cars, which are in demand in both the US as Japan, and tooling up the necessary bits to be able to sell them in the right spec on both markets, meaning maybe the US spec kits will come exclusively through US distribution. IMHO it would be a good thing if the US distributor would order bagged shots and have them packaged here, (hmm reminds me of American Satco) They also could be searching for data, on European cars, which were sold both in the US and Japan, so that US spec options would make sense when marketing them there. For all the rest, it's searching for subjects which are wanted equally on, both the domestic and foreign markets, a certain type of plane, boat, space vessel, military vehicle like CUCV's, I just sent in on their request form... Anyway...just thinking away here, comments, opinions very welcome, here on the "Model Cars Think Tank"
  13. It's Pegasus hobbies, I met the guys on one of the last Chicago hobby trade shows, but forgot their names. Been to their store in CA a few times too, good folks they once gave me a freebie, just because I came all the way from Belgium One of the things I remember is that while at the store the clerks (or how do you say that) packaged tire sets on their down time, a clever thing I thought at the time, cuz my job at GM back then was to eliminate downtime, thus making sure the assembly workers were productive.
  14. My condolences Art. Never knew him, but saw his name pop up sometimes in online conversations.
  15. Okey Spaulding couldn't keep it afloat, IMC (Illinois Model Company) couldn't fire it up again, and after 4 years I'm pretty sure Moebius gave up on it too. Everything Jo-Han is contaminated, it's a hornets nest, a can of worms, think John Handley cast a spell on his legacy, just before he traded the temporary for the eternal. My 2 cents, if you want anything Jo-Han, prepare to spend some serous cash to buy a kit on the secondary market....
  16. When looking at the box-art cars, the front bumper looks odd, like not pushed deep enough into the front clip, is this a fit issue?
  17. Remember those well, cuz the little town I grew up in had a trucking company, the name Van Laer, the company colors were orange cab, and blue chassis and they only used Scania trucks.
  18. Very plausible explanation, too many (me included) look at this from a modelers standpoint, instead of cold hard business.
  19. GREAT idea, Amt has a Ford F350 camper special, but no camper to go along with it, it's 40 years over due! Also a great idea would be a wrecker body, no....not, and I really mean it, when I say NOT, that crappy toy thing that was last used in the DOH "Cooter's tow truck" release, that tool or insert for my part may be recycled, there I said it !
  20. Had the problem a couple of days ago, maybe the Americans don't like foreigners anymore
  21. This is the one you needed if you wanted to build a stock one, I'm sure there are plenty of them on the secondary market, IIRC Revell also re-issued this one in a combo box, with trailer and speed boat. Think this kit is far superior to the Mpc offering, only for some the scale is a no no
  22. Same for me, I love parts hunting for a project I see finished in my mind, then I loose interest, and I'm digging into something else, but I'm happy
  23. Nothing to be ashamed off, great builds!
